For me, finding this movie was an unexpected gem; not only do I think it is an absolute masterpiece, but it is one of the few films I have ever seen that followed me around in my thoughts for so long after viewing, and legitimately challenged me to ponder my circumstances and re-evaluate my decisions. The fact that it is forgotten by history is absolutely criminal; this film NEEDS to be seen by as many people as possible.
this is one of my favorite movies, only beaten out by Silent Running (1972) i love how alien yet familiar it feels, the amount of worldbuilding that went into this is just amazing lol
I bought this movie on VHS around 1996…I loved it. I just watched it tonight (I still have one working VCR). The story is brilliant and the animation is absolutely gorgeous. I had no idea there was a soundtrack you could buy, or I would have that too.
This truly captures the bizarre, alternative culture and technology of Honneamise. This truly captures their similar spark of hope and drive of the Space Race in their own version of the cold war.
There's, stands a masterpiece of human and intellectual creation, that doesn't only want us to explore and alternative history and world, but also and most importantly, bring us to think about our history as mankind ; with references to many philosophers such as Nietzsche for the issue of the ever finished circle of mistakes done by humans. Exactly as Nadia and the secret of blue water, but before that, Gainax proposes a vision centered around the ideal that the technical progress offer great ways to reach happiness and liberty to humans, but only if they use it accordingly with an ethic and a goal, such as the one in this film : attain space, to demonstrate to all, that a dream can be achieve when the individual goals unite in a single transcendent force, and if such a thing is possible, yet all dreams can be possibly achieve, as the one of a better human world.
This is one of the most underestimated movies I've ever seen, the other one is Gattaca. The authors' work on worldbuilding is absolutely, unimaginably incredible. Tauantinsuyo goes Sputnik! Wow! Just look at coins and newspapers! That's what Gainax could have been if they didn't made Eva :(
Well I haven't seen Evangelion yet, so I can't say anything about it, but you seem to think that is where Gainax died. What about Gurren Lagann and FLCL? Those were both made by Gainax and they're both phenomenal.
+Nikolay Ivankov Hiroyuki Yamaga is the original creator and director of Royal Space Force, not Hideaki Anno, they were going to make a sequel in 1992 but Gainax ran out of funds, but it has been restarted now, its called Aoki Uru and its coming in 2018, and its very good its taking time because that means amazing animation and level of details.
not at all, it's a great example of desiring too much. and it showed tremendous resolve on her part to acknowledge what happened but forgive him in spite of that. it's not true that everyone would/should react that way, but the scene spoke to both of their characters in a way that other scenes couldn't
R.I.P! What a wonderful gift Jesus gave him, and how he devoted himself to that talent! Thank you Sakamoto!

至極の日本のアニメーション。
国宝だ。
There are a few countries making anime like things in these years, BUT REAL KING IS JAPAN AND MASTERPIECES LIKE THIS ARE PROOF
One of my favourite films of all time, the music is just incredible.
Can't stop listening to this.
RIP, Ryuichi Sakamoto
one of my favorite films ever. its sakamoto so you know the soundtrack will be the best
I forgot I saw this movie almost 30 years ago. It was weirdly nostalgic. Terrific film. This tune was on my subconscious.

There is no more OST like this anymore...so sad...
Love the anime so much

Um. Wat?
What an ignorant comment
@@stevenuss1482 Agreed. Your comment is indeed ignorant.
The film is a great commentary on recurring social and political questions through the lens of alternate history. IMO, it holds up pretty well.
今日ガンダム観に行ったらリバイバル上映の広告流れたよ

I think of Final Fantasy VII when I listen to this.
Its kinf of similar to Akira, although both of them are individual and outstanding.
is this just me or this theme gives serious Chrono Trigger vibe?
Such a great movie ruined by that SA scene.
Wouldn't say it ruined it but it's definitely odd.
