    A great video tutorial. Really helped when it came to helping me mount my first practice safe lock.

    In the wilds, a spline key is form fit, single use. If you are just using it on your desktop manipulation station & always have access to the back of the lock, then no issue at all with his "little bend" suggestion. That is a great looking mount!

    Amazing - I was fascinated watching you working on the stand. Love these locks :-) Wouldn't mind at all to watch a "boring" lengthy video of you manipulating it.

      Thanks so much, my friend! Really appreciate you watching and the kind words. I wouldn't even begin to know how to make a manipulation video. Half the time I confuse myself and it takes me an hour to think my way out of it before I get back on track. I'm still really new at this by any measure, and while I can usually get the lock open, I often don't look so good doing it, what with the pile of crumpled up high / low worksheets at my feet. Maybe one day, LOL :)

      Thanks so much! I realize I still owe you some photos. The reality is that I had the wrong dial ring bushings and could not get the dial rings to mount flat against the plate. I had a very hard time sourcing the correct bushings and only managed to get them last week. I've got two more locks to mount, and I'll get your photos to you. Sorry it's taken me so long.

    Great video. I love safe locks to. Iam not bragging. But I have cracked a few safes. I be doing lever safe lock picking. As in the U.S. its combination locks. Here in the UK its lever locks. But definitely not boring. Hopefully you bring more safe locks. Thanks man.

      That's super cool man! I would love to get my hands on some lever locks and lever picks one of these days. It's a completely new discipline that I've never done anything with. Might hit you up for some info one of these days if it's OK?

    hey Happy New Year I can't possibly imagine you think this would be boring I think was fantastic video and looking forward to seeing more of this. is what I would really like to see how you the set numbers for the safe do you know how to do that.or change combination i have old safe SENTRY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO CHANGE COMBINATION. THANKS FOR SHOWING. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😎

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  7 лет назад

      Happy New Year! I can certainly do a video on combo changes, but it's going to be different for many locks. Without knowing the lock that's on your Sentry, it's hard to say what the change process will be. I know many Sentry safes have direct entry locks, and I still don't have any experience with those.

  • @criticalw88

    My Lagard safe lock does not consistently open despite being careful in entering the combination. The lock is about 15 years old, is there some sort of maintenence I should do for it?

  • @34dawgsgo

    In your opinion is there a gun safe today with an electronic lock that can't be converted to a mechanical? A Rhino tech told me today a certain line of their safes it was not compatible. Def want the mechanical lock.

  • @ROTARY4552

    could you put a link up as to where to get the mounts or a similar mount looks great.
    One other question if just for practice is it viable to not cut the main shaft and just leave the back off the lock? or would the weight knock out the alignment?

  • @Steel-Pinnings
    @Steel-Pinnings 7 лет назад

    Awsome video,
    The way you even touch the lock is so graceful, and direct.
    You were telling me you still needed a few dials to finish the
    mounts you have, is that correct?
    I am kinda hoping that is the case, lol I know that sounds bad.
    But you know me... I came across a few complete Liberty Dials
    only missing the daylock key. But I can cut and impression one
    easy.

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it. I actually have one more dial than I do locks. As it usually goes with me, one lock had to die so that I could fully understand it. OK, maybe not DIE. I still have it, along with all the parts, but I keep it apart as reference material, LOL. What color are your Liberty dials? hang onto them, especially if you like the color... Sometimes you'll find a lock that you really want, but it either won't come with a dial or you won't like the color. You can also mix and match dial rings with dials, which can sometimes look pretty cool.

    • @Steel-Pinnings
      @Steel-Pinnings 7 лет назад +1

      Dude I got a steal... got 22 dials, 26 housings whatever they are called. Lol
      All of different colors and styles.
      When they get here I will shoot you some pics.

    Its funny i just spent hours last night trying to find a good safe manipulation vid. I really ddnt find any in depth. They usually just explain how it works. Id love to watch one too.. do you graph it, or just feel it out from start to finish

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  7 лет назад +3

      I'm nowhere near good enough yet to do it without graphing. I make a graph for every wheel, even when I'm running the last one for the money. I figure if I'm just at the edge of a gate, it might indicate enough for me to make some intelligent guesses if I run the last wheel with no open.

    Wow, that's a nice piece of work. I'm trying to get into learning safe locks, myself... it's been hard to find much available info, and even my course chapter on safe work was just a very general overview followed by "you'll learn more once you're a real locksmith" and that really doesn't work for me. Aside from Ebay, do you know of any good sources to purchase some of these for reasonable (student budget) prices? Would love to see anything you care to share as you progress. Thanks for the video!

    • @chadroyer1392
      @chadroyer1392 7 лет назад

      Great source of info, thanks for steering me that way! I'm waiting for my registration to be approved, but have learned a ton already. Also just scored a new S&G 6741 (off of a Liberty safe) for $10 on ebay, and a gun safe we have at work that we don't have the combination for that normally sells for $499 for $50! It's a stack-on with a direct-access dial combo, so should be easy enough to figure out. What a great day...

    Do all safe locks have the same mounting hole pattern? I want to change my gun safe’s Lagard to a Mosler - if I can find one on eBay.

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  2 года назад

      On modern safes they mostly do. There are exceptions, of course, but if your safe is modern and using a common lock (which it seems to be), you can be pretty sure the hole pattern is standard. In general you can find dimensioned drawings for the hole pattern on safe locks like this one: m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61qHEFGmyVL._AC_SL1166_.jpg.. Looking them up would help you confirm. I'm not super familiar with Mosler but I'm pretty they'd have the same hole pattern as Lagard.

    I know it's an old vid, you probably already figured this out, but the cam direction IDs are there so that 0 will always be on top regardless of mounted position.
    If this was already mentioned sorry for the repete, did not read all posts.

    Nice, I've just ordered my first S&G 6730, and thinking about how to go about mounting it. This video will really help! Do you know of any places selling mounts? I know that one was made for you, but you did mention plastic ones. I'm just not the handiest person, so would rather a mount then trust my carpentry stills :P I guess I'll google it :)

      MBAUSA sells them... mbausa.com/training-aids/lock-mounts-for-training/

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  5 лет назад

      I also have a very few of these left that I'm selling on ebay. They are not cheap, but I need to charge that to recover my expenses. If you're just looking for the functionality, the MBA mounts can't be beat, but if you want the cool factor, that's an option.

    Question: Why shim the lock and not put the spline key in a different orientation?

    • @tumbl3r
      @tumbl3r  3 года назад

      Personal preference, really. I like to keep the orientation correct to the way the lock is actually mounted if possible. You are right though, that could have easily solved the issue without shims.
