Anything within a (collectable) book that differs from its original state will decrease its value, apart from the author's signature which (can) greatly increase it (or if the previous owner is a very famous person). A previous owner's inscription will however not decrease its value by very much (as long as it is neatly done and not a mess). Hope that helps.
