I just seeing Wels' castle in the background in other hermits videos, it looks soo majestic, the color pallet from the stone choice to the roof and even the flags is very pleasing to the eye, you are a great builder my friend
I honestly think offering False a favor in kind is the best payment in this situation. She is building a bunch of rivers - perhaps a bridge over one of them, since the once you had into Hypno's yard was removed? Oh a side note, I kind of love that you're getting bits and pieces of the castle done by other people. I have a feeling that, months down the line, it's going to be a collection of memories, thinking about all the little touches from other people. Very in-spirit of the season!
Another option could be a house outside the castle, for things like a "stone mason" and a "blacksmith", where it would make the castle actually have "minions" (or subjects if you prefer).
Get villagers from different biomes to be prisoners, staff and other inhabitants of the castle and keep. The different colours can denote their position, sorta like a uniform.

I suggest moving that staircase that Grian made inside that tower at 15:46 and exit through the roof side like the other towers. That way, it's much cleaner and you can use the wall above that arch doorway.
Exactly. Many castles usually tucked the staircases into niches in very thick walls, or put them in towers. Unless Wels wanted to go for the mansion-style "grand staircase" (which is kinda a later period thing anyway).
the community sends them messages. Wels probably heard through the grapevine that Grian had the red sand, did a bit of a deep sigh (he'd be charging rent again), but Grian got him an actually half decent permit if you are willing to set up some systems.
I love how iskall tried to make a collaborative base and completely failed while you slowly but surely do it right. Love your content, glad to see you on the server ❤
Well, to be fair, Iskall didn't really tell them what they were doing when they chose the blocks, and he didn't allow himself to change it. 😅. Wels, on the other hand, has the power to change anything that the Hermits build.
Wels's point was "While looking at the second floor, you see too much red, so columns blend too much with the roof." So, while you are looking at the second floor and roof, how much of a spruce floor do you see to say that's the pillars blend too much with background? Not so much, isn't it? And then there is a suggestion to bring white into the build, while there is zero white in other parts of the castle. I'm not against suggestions, but sometimes you need to think them through better
i saw another comment saying that the hall might need a more "grand" material and i couldn't agree more - that is unless you were going for a more viking/dark ages style hall. also, armour stands!!!! would be a wonderful way to add some flavour to that ground floor - i think cleo has an idea around how to make custom ones if you wanted special statues
I love all the different styles the hermits have and we got to see an example of it side by side here with the great hall. Grian's very European, cathedral looking castle hall vs. Wels' more rustic, almost ski lodge looking hall. Not saying that one style is better than the other. It's just two different perspectives. Yay for diversity.
As a huge fan of high fantasy and medieval stuff, this whole castle is making my brain tick like crazy in such an amazing way. My couple of thoughts as a fan of this stuff: - The great hall has a huge potential to be multifaceted in the fact that it could be a great dining/theatre/court hall. Maybe tables and chairs connecting between the pillars would help break the Spruce floors and pillars and make it feel more "grand"? - If you change your mind about the arch and want to bring it higher again, you could use that steeper stairs idea and bring it as a platform above the arch as an extra "viewing" area. (Maybe have some dark oak fences as "supports" for it to help align the colour palette with the buttresses. - The downstairs kitchen idea is exactly where my mind was going as well. (Especially with the small staircase leading through to the great hall) it honestly reminds me of a servants passageway, so maybe a partitioning of a broom closet of some kind alongside the kitchen? (The kitchen would work well with the first point I was making too) - I am working under the assumption that you might not have the space but if you do, the jail cell would work really well if you had more stairs leading down in a darker texture that became a drippy "dungeon" of sorts.😮 But seriously, all in all. This is one of the most impressive castle builds I have seen on Minecraft and I am enchanted by ALL of it good sir. I am now subscribed to you and will definitely be keeping up.
Wels! I just had a thought! What if you grew a few, or a lot of mangrove trees along the outside edge of your castle, along the water's edge just like a mini swamp biome. That would look so cool with cattails made from green glass panes and brown candles. Oh...How about some frogs, a downed log and maybe a few cobwebs. You could even use mature wheat for dead grass and, or a dead bush or two. Your castle is beautiful, by the way. 🌻
Rounding off the end of the balcony on the far side of the Grand Hall would make it feel more spacious downstairs while not sacrificing too much usable space.
I think the all red ceiling in the grand hall fit a bit better since the lighter block draws your eyes upward and gives a kind of "oh wow that's big" vibe. Otherwise the castle is looking amazing and i cant wait to see how you'll decorate it!
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again loving Grian and Wels together as they haven’t really been together much (on camera) love seeing 2 of my favourite hermits collabing
Grian - Wels, I done the Interior! So, time for the exchange of the Permits! Wels - Here the Permits you want, Grian and now, what is the Mystery Permit? Grian running to his Horse, incase deal went south - BYE! I hope you like the Mystery Permit? Wels - All Nether Bricks! I'm actually good with that! Grian - WHAT!
Grian reminds me of Robin Goodfellow sooo much.😂 It wouldn’t surprise me if he half expects you to miss one of those hidden spaces, so he’ll use it in future as a secret something. 🤷♀️ Up to you to decide if you’ll keep a known “weakness”. 😉
You could put a hidden tunnel under one of the towers where they are eroded to make it seem like it is being infiltrated. A hidden entrance for nefarious activities.
I think false's payment should be a quest on a boat to find a buried treasure. So map, armour, sword, and then diamonds in the chest. Or something kinda like that?
Regarding the hallways that ended up hidden, you could try maake secret passages and entrances, accesible by hidden buttons and levers, for example, like any good castle should have!
Walking out on the balcony and over to the towers totally gave me Baron castle from Final Fantasy IV, such happy memories of the game that introduced me to Final Fantasy.
Hey Wels, it might be a cool idea to pass some of the water outside the walls through a grate into the interior field area for some cool aesthetics! Also, since you lowered the archway below the staircase, consider a window right above it that you can look out while walking up the stairs. Looking good so far!
The towers could be barracks! Ladders to go up, and different heights could be rooms (maybe bunkbeds?) and armories for the "knights" protecting the kingdom
Nice episode Wells. You've nailed being the ruler of the land by having work done for you. Obviously the villagers are going to occupy roles within your domain. Consider collecting some from other biomes for less populated roles. As each biome has its own colour, these could differentiate positions like uniforms. Keep up the great content
I love all the collaboration! So great to see hermits working together and helping each other! It was so hilarious how you revealed you knew about Grian's mystery permit!
You could put a super smelter in your new basement, where you plan to have a kitchen. That could let you make nether bricks easily and also help with brick production (but you said you'd use a villager so maybe that's unnecessary).
I have a sudden vision of zombie piglins coming out of the nether portal and scurrying into a tower garderobe . . . which contains a turtle egg bait and fall trap to keep them from wandering all over your castle.
When you first walk in the main doors and look up to see the Grand roof, the second floor balcony sticks out a block or two too much and obstruct the gloriousness of the view
Cuz Grian isn't good at interiors IFL it would be a good running bit for Wels to always ask Hermits to do the thing they consider themselves the worst at. In that way he becomes the guy always pushing the others forward to improve their skills.
I think that you could make the nether portal at the wall in an elevated gatehouse. Considering people can get to the castle using it, it would make sense to treat it as an entrance.
a great payment would be to work (collab) with her on one of the island/river projects, like a student/co-worker. in that way you could have a nice long interaction, and false needs that - to much iskall i bet this season XD
You could throw some spruce trap doors on the bottoms of the pillars in the main hall to add a bit of texture and make it look like there is some iron bands going across holding it up.
Nether brick is easy! Simple. You can ask everyone to drop off their netherack. (No one likes it anyway) You get it in your mail. You get a triple supersmelter. Smelt the bricks. Get a life supply of bricks. But the best part. Auto crafter. Autocraft it. Get it loaded into a small auto sulker storage system. Go do your own shopping. Come back and have it ready for mailing off. Bricks of nether becomes cheast of gold and dimonds. How about. Crazy but a treasurey room. Show off your new self-made wealth.
I think what both you did and Grian are great with the interior. However, putting the wooden beams instead of the red beams focus your attention onto the beams instead of the huge ceiling therefore making it appear smaller and less grand. Maybe consider changing the crossbeams back to red or a lighter colour block? Might help save some grandness of Grians design while keeping your practicality and vision. Love the video!
@21:55 is the wall Wels pushed back to the castle wall completely cover by the balcony facing Hypno's place and able to be removed without changing the outside for more room if wanted.
Payment for False: A shulker containing a note denoting that it's payment for the job. The rest of the slots filled with rotten flesh. And deliver it via air drop, sneaking it into her inventory if possible and let her stumble across it. For actual payment, no clue - but start it off with a prank.
When I was making mass quantities of nether bricks, I set up my super smelter in the nether and then powered it with lava buckets, since there's ridiculous amounts of both netherrack and lava to toss into the furnaces. Just wander around mining more and filling buckets while it worked.
The Hermitage Castle is looking excellent. I think if you add a gradient of tuff and neither brick in the ceiling, it'll make the crimson wood pop more, and I think an end rod chandler would work well decorated with a few amethyst crystals. But hey this is just a suggestion.
I noticed Grian blocked off the garden as well. No idea why he did that since you clearly wanted those areas accessible but who can say what's going on in the head of that man. XD If I were you, I'd try turning the lower towers into stair cases to the upper levels. Just one or two. There's also more room in the dungeon if you punch the wall facing the water out. The balcony's around there.
Yeah, the "too red" problem is solvable by covering it up with some banners and breaking up the empty space with signs and decoration. Wels took away, rather than adding to, the grandiosity.
I feel basalt or polished basalt would be lovely for the columns and contrast with the roof. Blackstone or deepslate bricks would match really well for supports.
I feel like the red pillars should have stayed to add contrast against the floors, but the beams on the roof looks great with the brown wood contrasting the red, there can definitely be a compromise here
Which ever tower you put your nether portal in, make sure to add a drop with collection and a turtle egg lure to deal with the random zombie piglins. They really are annoying but it is nice and kinda funny to randomly check a chest once a month or so and see multiple free stacks of gold nuggets.
Scar, Falsie and Grain did a pretty good job helping you with the castle, would've been nice to see more hermits helping hermits to build their bases, there is some interactions here and there, nothing to major sadly
Just finished watching the episode. When I had originally written this comment wels had not yet swapped out the pillars and so forth. And I really do quite enjoy the new look.
It sounded like you were considering putting a certain puppy in those jail cells when he interrupted you at the end there! 😂 I like the new pillars, the red-on-red was a little much.
Just a little reminder it might not be a concern but in the initial intro Grian asked for shops to be separate excluding collectives of course. Maybe you can make a semi detached building one for either side!
Hanging a banner above the 'stairs door' that you adjusted will restore its grandeur from the outside. It'll look taller than it now is. You might want to try something more sculptural than the banner using a contrasting block instead.
I really, really love the castle and they way it's evolving. I felt like castles have been done to death, but now you have the tuff variations, it's breathed new life into it and what you're doing is really cool
I’m pretty sure the darker pillars are what makes the room feel smaller, maybe a lighter tone and a slight inward curve on the balcony would make the main hall feel a lot grander
Wels: I got Nether Brick Great! Imagine I got something terrible like red sand.

It feels like house flipper only "Castle flipper" and here for all of it.
I think cherrywood would be a nice pleasent alternative to the red pillars and archways.
Just finished watching the episode. When I had originally written this comment wels had not yet swapped out the pillars and so forth. And I really do quite enjoy the new look.
Grian did a great job to get you started, but you took that Great Hall to the next level 👍 Great job!
It sounded like you were considering putting a certain puppy in those jail cells when he interrupted you at the end there! 😂 I like the new pillars, the red-on-red was a little much.
If he gets a dog to sit outside the cells he could "armour stand in" a set of keys in the dogs mouth! A la pirates of the Caribbean 😂
False did a great job! The castle continues to look fantastic.
Just a little reminder it might not be a concern but in the initial intro Grian asked for shops to be separate excluding collectives of course. Maybe you can make a semi detached building one for either side!
He mentioned it makes sense thematically as it's brick and nether brick which shouldn't be an issue
I love big medieval castles and Wels' base is my current favorite of the season!
Some glazed terracotta in the very top 3 blocks of the ceiling could be cool for some sort of grand mosaic ceiling.
This is definitely my favourite build of the season so far! So much potential and i love medevil styles!
Hanging a banner above the 'stairs door' that you adjusted will restore its grandeur from the outside. It'll look taller than it now is. You might want to try something more sculptural than the banner using a contrasting block instead.
Your dog has great commentary ❤😂 22:27
wow, the courtyard in the castle is looking amazing!!
I really, really love the castle and they way it's evolving. I felt like castles have been done to death, but now you have the tuff variations, it's breathed new life into it and what you're doing is really cool
I only heard the puppy twice. MORE PUPPY BARKS!
I’m pretty sure the darker pillars are what makes the room feel smaller, maybe a lighter tone and a slight inward curve on the balcony would make the main hall feel a lot grander
Wels is like a king NPC giving tasks to other hermits and rewards them.
