Is it even a hermitcraft season without at least one wither-related catastrophe? XD Also, I swear... the flashback I experienced at the unexpected YOU'VE GOT MAIL
My “problem” (in quotes because it’s not really a problem) with the wood pillars is I feel it makes the room appear smaller. The red drew my eyes up to the ceiling and made the room seem grand. The wood in contrast, keeps my eyes focused on the immediate surroundings, negating the effect.
3:01 In the ranged phase of the fight, the Wither tries to stay a few blocks above the target of the middle head. With players constantly flying at the same height, it will keep going up. If everyone was at least ten blocks lower than it but still close enough to be targeted, it would start going down. But it would probably be harder than killing it on the sky.
I would consider moving the main stairway from the main hall into one of the side towers. That will give you move space for the upper balcony as well as allowing for a grander entrance.
I second this. A single stair in one of the two large towers facing Hypno's area could go from the top gallery under the roof all the way down to the kitchen/dungeon level. Personally I'd put it in the one on the left (left as you're looking at the castle from Hypno's house).

On the pillars in the main room, you could switch the bottom plank block on each to barrel, I believe it would add more texture and to me makes it feel more structural.
The tower off the castle with the bridge could be an awesome place for the portal as when you get out of it, you then get a good overall view of the place, it's also further away so you don't have to hear the portals nor the piglins every times you're having a banquet and perhaps even have more room to make a piglin killing things so you don't have any pig invaders, those
Btw in the Middle Ages the lords lived on the ground floor and the service people lived upstairs. The rich didn’t want to climb stairs. It wasn’t until the invention of the elevator that the rich moved to the higher floors.
I've been in quite a few castles and I don't think that's true. It wasn't usually the top floor, but I don't remember one where is was at the ground floor.
The "You've got mail" thing is so funny to me because my college roommate had "You've got male... pattern baldness" as his email notification on his computer in the dorm.
@@YetAnotherJenn I still laugh about it every time I think of it. The "you've got mail" was straight from AOL. Then the "pattern baldness" was like... a bad standup guy voice. It was so funny.
you should make the walls two thick so you can decorate the inside with fancy looking "wallpaper." i'd go for some glazed terracotta in little panels, almost like they're framed. you'd see those at a lot of older places, and it would allow the floor to look like proper hardwood floor without overwhelming the eye. or alternatively you could use those wood panels that reach chest high and have wallpaper above them, that's pretty cool on a larger scale too.
I am Australian and in my 40's. I have absolutely no idea where that "You've got mail" sound-bite is from. Pearl is right, it must be an American thing.
Haha after commenting in the last video that once the castle is done you should hold some sort of gala/feast/event, where you sit the people who helped build portions of the castle at like the lords table, after watching the herrmits cone together to deal with the wither threat, i would love to see it even more now. Also haveing someone play the bard to regale the tale.
I only know, you've got mail, from the movie, I'm from the UK tho. The movie is based off a Hungarian play called "She Loves Me" and their was another movie based off it that Jamie Stuart played in called "Shop Around the Corner"
I love the look of the grand hall. You should have a slightly raised floor at one end for the castle lord. As much as the open gallery above the hall looks good, you could reclaim some of it for a grand bedroom for the castle lord and then have minor bedrooms in the towers for guests or family. Then you could create barracks in the castle ground for the guards and hovels for common folk.
23:25 Considering that the portal is an entrance to the castle, it could be interesting to put it on the wall in a structure that could look like a gatehouse, but on the top of the wall.
I actually use the same mailbox sound byte on my phone whenever I receive a gmail on my phone. It's kind of funny to keep hearing on Hermit episodes because I keep thinking it's my phone. I also use the AIM default sound for receiving sms when I get texts as well.
The castle looks awesome so far, carpets in the grand hall will break up the brown really well. This project has inspired me to build a Korean/Joseon Palace village in Minecraft.
Ohh my gourd, that old complainer voice Wels pulled out while talking with Pearl was just perfect!! Caught me completely off guard, I wasn't looking at the screen & thought for a second Wels had some custom horn that perfectly fit the situation lol. So good
Wels is kinda interestingly explaining why sectioning off big spaces into rooms that have a purpose. Kinda neat :D And i'm glad he got some hints through to him :)
Have spiral staircases going up both towers from the basement, but have to entrances, so you can start from the basement or from the first floor i.e. Have a landing half way up for a second entrance
You could also introduce some mangrove signs and trapdoors to those wood pillars to bring some of the red accents back into them lower down. I think it would help extend the red theme down into the lower quarter of the room
Iron clad armor stands would look great in the great hall all facing each other with a red carpet in the middle laced with a gold or yellow trim, you should also make a pixel art of your house banner somewhere in the hall as well
A cool addition you could try in the grand hall is putting some banners or hanging drapes around to look a little more fancy, anyway great video always fun to watch.
For historical accuracy, the noble family would have had their private quarters on an upper room. The old English name for this was a “solar”, but we don’t know whether that’s because it’s related to the Latin word for sun (upper room = brighter) or the Latin word for “alone” (as in solitude.) For bonus accuracy points, there should be a small internal window that allows the nobles to look down at the Great Hall from those quarters.
Im really enjoying how much you are interacting with your friends this season. Also, I really like your layout and your future castle ideas. With your epic building skills, I bet a throne w/ classic backdrop would look so good at the end of the large hall.
It’s so refreshing and exciting to see Wels with the same energy that he had back in the older Hermitcraft seasons! Glad you’re enjoying yourself and having fun!
the basement portions of the towers could be used as extra bulk storage providing additional economic value and security! with the prison being in the basement, having so many access ways for potential escapees is a security concern, but also if the castle is being assaulted at ground level, there would be less stairways to fight up from thus making it easier to defend! storage in towers typically consisted of small guard beds for resting between patrol shifts, extra ammunition supplies, as well as additional armory provisions or extra food storage in preparation of a siege whereas the towers of the main keep would have fancier decor such as bookshelves, additional hearths, or private and secluded chambers designed for treasuries, shrines, and other stuff! keep in mind, too, that having an actual basement level beneath the ground floor provides extra insulation against the weather to keep perishable goods for longer term storage! overall, i'm LOVING this castle design and i'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future! however it goes, i wish you luck haha
For the nether portal, I think if you turn one of the towers into like a wizarding and alchemy tower (brewing and enchanting) it would fit right at home at the bottom of one of those, maybe kept behind some failing iron bars
I do find it amusing that the jail and servant rooms are essentially the same thing. you could get the queen of dungeons (Gem) to build one to fit in with the semi community castle build you have.
I think you should make a jousting arena outside the castle! You could even make it an active mini game for the hermits. It would encourage people to keep using their horses/ donkeys for even longer and also would allow them to use the health stat of them even more!
The wither fight is so cool! Going up above where the ground is visible as the sun sets always feels like going into space! I hadn't thought of the mail system as a way to send storage home ahead of you, and I'm excited seeing the empty interior, so much potential!!
Maybe you can put a wizard’s tower somewhere, have the enchantment table/portal there and then have a secret passageway to the dungeon. Make it seem like the wizard does something weird with the prisoners. Or put a secret room in the wizard’s tower and put the portal there. Maybe some of the courtyard can be use for training grounds for knights?
i agree with pearl that it’s not just an age thing, it’s also an american thing, cause i’m around the same age as wels is i think but not american and i’m not familiar with the you got mail thing either
Wels, I had an idea for the nether portal. That little balcony that it's currently on actually looks like a good spot to me. If you incorporate the portal into the doorframe of the door onto that balcony, it would give easy access for people to enter your base AND it adds a splash of color. Could be kinda like a stained glass effect. Just a thought!
i saw little bits and pieces in the castle you didnt cover as much that i liked. its cool to see the little tweaks and adjustments youre making along the journey 👍
as an aussie, just reminding pearl that you've got mail was a box office number 1 in 1998 when it came out here... lol. it's definitely because she's too young!

For bonus accuracy points, there should be a small internal window that allows the nobles to look down at the Great Hall from those quarters.
17:30 i guess AOL does stand for american on line huh, been like a decade since ive thought of that
the basement portions of the towers could be used as extra bulk storage providing additional economic value and security! with the prison being in the basement, having so many access ways for potential escapees is a security concern, but also if the castle is being assaulted at ground level, there would be less stairways to fight up from thus making it easier to defend! storage in towers typically consisted of small guard beds for resting between patrol shifts, extra ammunition supplies, as well as additional armory provisions or extra food storage in preparation of a siege whereas the towers of the main keep would have fancier decor such as bookshelves, additional hearths, or private and secluded chambers designed for treasuries, shrines, and other stuff!
keep in mind, too, that having an actual basement level beneath the ground floor provides extra insulation against the weather to keep perishable goods for longer term storage!
overall, i'm LOVING this castle design and i'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future! however it goes, i wish you luck haha
Oh no not "The Dread Gazebo". Truly the most fearsome of all creatures.
i shoot an arrow at the gazebo!
Oh man... that "You've got mail!" took me waaaaaaaaay back!
I think you should make a jousting arena outside the castle! You could even make it an active mini game for the hermits. It would encourage people to keep using their horses/ donkeys for even longer and also would allow them to use the health stat of them even more!
I have to side with Pearl here. *America* On-Line's mail notification sound is not going to be as recognizable beyond the USA.
Glow lichen on pillers makes a really nice textures. Bdubs did it in the crastle
i agree with pearl that it’s not just an age thing, it’s also an american thing, cause i’m around the same age as wels is i think but not american and i’m not familiar with the you got mail thing either
Mr. Wels
For the towers... Insert a spiral staircase around a pole all the way up and down.
i saw little bits and pieces in the castle you didnt cover as much that i liked. its cool to see the little tweaks and adjustments youre making along the journey 👍
as an aussie, just reminding pearl that you've got mail was a box office number 1 in 1998 when it came out here... lol. it's definitely because she's too young!
The outside where you was talking about making the gardens use the structure to make like a vineyard with the glow berry's and some vines....that would be cool.
Withers will follow you down if you descend slowly. They try to stay at a set height above their target. (Also, potions help.)
