Love this idea! Wondering whether i can adapt it for my bearded dragon 🦎 🤔 Currently he doesnt get much enrichment beyond his insect feedings and wandering the house every day or two.
Probably! Presenting greens in fun ways, feeder insects in dispenser balls, outdoor basking, im sure there’s lots of fun activities you can come up with!
Those are fun ideas! I think I'll look at some beardie forums and try to come up with something this weekend. The new perch looks awesome!

Seagrass mats totally count as rope imo, I'm just a little disappointed you didn't use bits of the mat as rope to tie the pieces together.
btw for anyone interested, I got around 180 metres of rope out of a single seagrass mat by pulling it apart. Mat cost me 3.50, seagrass rope of the same diameter cost $1 per metre, so doormats are a really economical way to get seagrass rope.
I'm glad I pulled one apart, was a good learning experience as to exactly how they are made, which is knowledge I use a lot now when cutting & playing around with them. I wouldn't do it again for the rope though, too much work! The outer edge is the bit to use for rope, around 30 metres of rope in that & pulls apart really easily & in most cut mat projects the edge pieces just fall off anyway

Dang that’s a lot of rope! Didn’t even occur to me to take it apart at all, the mats are usually pretty pricey for me so I was terrified of wrecking it for no reason 😅
@@FlockTalk Have you tried looking for seagrass doormats at a local hardware store? I was spending a fortune on the mats from bird stores, then found a different bird store that straight out said in their description that they were buying them from the local hardware store & washing in "f10" disinfectant before selling them on (at a HUGE profit increase). I went to the hardware store's online site & sure enough, there they are, with endless reviews from people using for their birds & rabbits (and complaining that they increased price by 50cents and how unfair that huge price increase to 3.50 per mat was lol).
I used to treat like you do, but now I have a tonne of them, constantly buying a few when there & leaving out in the weather for a month or 2 to ensure they're safe
@@FlockTalk & if you can't get them cheaper, you could do it in reverse & buy seagrass rope & weave into a seagrass mat yourself, then it REALLY counts as rope for this series :))
Can’t say I’ve ever seen seagrass at any hardware stores near me! Something I’ll have to keep an eye out for now though

Hi I love your videos. I was wondering if you have any suggestions to help get him to eat fresh vegetables. He has also started to destroy some of his toys, which is not a problem except I think he is investing it. There's nothing in them that is dangerous in small quantities, but I know it's not good for them. I also think he might be over preening, is that a thing? Sorry to be a bother.

My favourite method is to cook some sweet potato, mash it up, and mix seeds in to it before freezing in ice cube trays. You can pop out a cube and warm it prior to serving, most birds go bonkers for warm mashed sweet potato and then it’s easy to purée different veggies in to the mash, gradually increasing the size of the new food as they adjust to the taste.
It’s decently uncommon for a bird to actually consume toy parts, it can often look like it due to how they twiddle it further back in their beaks and demolish it in to powder. If you suspect they are consuming it I would consult a vet to check for foreign bodies inside of them, as well as ensuring they’re not nutrient deficient which is often a common reason for eating inedible things
Over preening is quite common, captive birds get yoinked from their parent quite young and miss out on learning exactly when to stop preening, as well as environmental stressors, diet, and the general struggles of trying to adapt to captive life. In some cases it can improve with a good diet and specialized enrichment plans, but in other cases there’s not much to be done
