Watching Jimmy "the Rev" joking around, playing drums and mainly being himself, is hard. I miss that guy a lot. Brooks Wackerman is doing a great job now, but I think Jimmy will be in our hearts foREVer. Great reaction video btw.
It's absolutely about the struggle between touring/being on the road and away from family and those you love, pulled between regret at what you're missing and loving what you do. A prayer to watch over those you're not there for. I remember the original shock when this came out, of what?! This is country, not rock/metal! But hey... It's avenged sevenfold, they do what they want 😂 and we love them.
One song that would absolutely be a good next step from this is Warmness on the Soul. It was the band's first single and the music video feels great. An entirely different kind of ballad. The band is so diverse. By the way, the album version of Dear God is a bit longer and there's more guitar work. More in line with The Stage musically and with a ton of guitar work, one of the band's breakout hits is Beast and the Harlot. You should check out a lyric video for the album version of that, too. It's more what you're expecting and I think it will impress you a lot.
