  • We've got the new 2020 Mini Cooper S Clubman, and we've really grown to like it. Mini has a reputation for being a bit off the wall, and we think this Clubman adds a little spice to even the most mundane drives. Great job in your review. Yours is the first I’ve seen where the interior is shown both in the day and night (I was interested in seeing how the ambient lighting was).
I’ve been wanting a Mini for many years now, and am ready to buy. I’m just trying to decide between the Clubman and the Countryman. Thanks for posting this.

I'm glad you found it helpful! The Clubman and Countryman are based on the same platform (same as the BMW X1 and X2), so they will feel pretty similar. It mostly comes down to personal preference on function and appearance. However, I wouldn't recommend the base engine with AWD on the Countryman-frustratingly under powered. Good luck with your decision!

The original mini was brought out as Britiain's answer to a market being flooded with (mainly) German micro cars in the 1950s - the bubble cars as they were known, with their tiny 125cc two stroke engines. Ironically, the most popular was the Isetta which was made by BMW.

Thank you for the nice review. Can you confirm whether I can put a full size spare tyre under the boot floor?

Thanks! It would be tough to put a full size spare under there. Mini offers an optional compact spare, but if you wanted a full-size, you'd likely have to just have it in the trunk area.

@@DailyMotor thank you for the information, but that'd be a shame considering I can fit a full size tyre under my mk5 Golf and it's smaller in all three dimensions but with virtually the same boot space.

You barely had me at $32k...but when you mention the iconic pkg and $40k (STi, Type R, Golf R, etc territory); you lost me and reaffirmed my belief MINIs are not worth what is asked of them. However, I believe the JCW Countryman is a better 'value' (at 38k) than an X2, but still a lot imo.

Your last point is the key: Mini is going for a niche buyer who wants luxury feel without confirming to a standard luxury brand, and they don't mind paying for the privilege. Is that a profitable strategy? Well, jury is still out.

How stating your height when talking about rear headroom a flex? Don't most car reviewers do that 🤔 plus 5'10 is nothing to flex about 😂
