As is tradition when two ships pass, especially sister ships from the same shipping line, a nice exchange of horns takes place. In this video the QM2 sounds her horn first before the QE2 follows. A lovely sounding battle of the horns.
HRH Queen Elizabeth II and Baroness Margaret Thatcher were aboard the QE2 saying their own personal farewells before the QE2 retired to Dubai.
The Queen launched the QE2 and Baroness Thatcher as Prime Minister sent her to the Falklands to carry troops to the war.

I love all Cunard ships' horns (I think it's REALLY cool that QM2 uses the refurbed one from her 'mom' QM), but QE2's takes the cake and never fails to bring a tear of joy to my eyes....
the deepest horn on the QM2 was the little horn on the QM1, the big one remains on the QM1. It is the deepest sound air horn in the world.

Well that's good to know. You could hear the original Queens Mary, Elizabeth, as well as QE2's Typhons/horns for over 10 miles as well.
We were on QM2 during the meeting of the sisters in Long Beach (QM and QM2) they went back and forth for a good 15 minutes doing salutes to each other. It was all fun and games till we got stuck and it took 5 hours to get her turned around and unstuck. Someone misjudged the depth!
what a magestic sound of QE2, so unique, I love ocean liners, glad she got keeped and got the appreciation she deserves
man i wish i could be there. im taking my first cruise next month really looking forward to it.

I find the two-tone horn of QM2 not quite as magnificent as QE2's.... though they're both still unmistakable and earsplitting when you're only a few feet away... :)
Well why don't you listen to the original queen Mary horn that has been put on the queen Mary2 and can be heard from 10 miles away and qm2 won

The QE2 is the last true ocean liner, as well as the France ans the United States. Sadly the France has been destroyed, the United States is decaying for decades and QE2 is unused... I wish I could travel on QE2 one day (if she is not turned into an hotel).
+WhitewalkerII The QM2 is currently the only ocean liner, which effectively makes her the last at present. She replaces the QE2. Don't mistake her size... the QM2 is a thoroughbred Ocean liner
QM2 handles the ocean better than QE2. She’s far more of an ocean liner imo.

Even for 1967 QE2 was very modern, and I think shes the first Cunard ship to carry the red and black Cunard funnel
I'm a bit late, but Cunard has been using a red funnel with a black cap to mark their ships' livery for well over a century. Modern ships have updated the look, however.
Cunard has been using the red funnel with the back top ever since they were founded.
@mcpcshowcaseHD Thats very interesting, good thing that the new Queen Elizabeth doesn't have the QE2 horn, personally i think that would of rowed the ship considering the QE2 is such an icon!

Poor QE2. Left to rot in a dubai harbour :( This video is so poignant.
She's been opened as an hotel now! Started about 2 years ago (2018)...of course, with the current COVID situation, she's been temporarily closed, but will re-open once it's calmed down a bit. She looks great and they're restoring some of her public rooms to their original 1967/1969 designs!

@@miracabral She has been fully gutted of all her interior engines and everything. Making her perminantly crippled if a investor or company decided to buy her from Dubai, they would tug assistance the whole trip to Dubai for collection and back to wherever she was bought and would be stationed to

Disney ship's are NOT ocean liners. They're build as cruise ships, however they do have an ocean liner style, which is something to look forward to. You for got the Rooterdam though.

Not true... royal carribbean ships have deeper horns then alot of larger princess ships
QM2 wins! QM2's horn is more powerful. It can be heard 10 miles away and it comes from the QM.
Still the Horn on the QM 2 doesnt Sound like it did originaly.
So bassically it got stolen of her original Sound.
And the original Sound was A LOT better than today

Hello mcpcshowcase. My name is Mathew or Matt. I live in Auckland, New Zealand (so about 12 hours behind Great Britain.) I was wondering, these two AMAZING liners, were they the loudest you have ever heard?? At Princes Wf and Queens Wf here in Auckland, I kid you not, you can get SO CLOSE to the cruise ships, that you can actually FEEL the AWE-GRIPPING and POWERFUL sound of the cruise ships horns!!!!! I mean, gee golly, it would blow a car up!!! Anyway, thanks for all your videos, and I even saw the one where QM2 set off a flaming car alarm!!!! Great videos Sir, or Ma'am!!! All the best from Matt, half a world away!!!

@d2gizzo It doesn't sound like that close up - it's a very clear note on board. Didn't realise that it warped so much as it spread. Apparently it can be heard over a mile away!

No QM is now a hotel in long beach California and queen Victoria is one of them also QE2 is now another hotel ad dubai
@YYZJOHN it isn't supported by any fact. Only the fact that QM2 and QM are audiable for 10 miles. Do you have a credible source citing what you're saying?

Disney's ships are not liners, they're cruise ships. However, Disney's ships are way more reminiscent and beautiful like ocean liners were. They're superior to other cruise ships, because the Cruise ships have shitty designs nowadays.
i can name 10 different ocean liners STILL a float HERE is THE LIST / rms queen Mary / rms queen mary 2/rms queen Elizabeth 2 / rms queen Elizabeth / rms queen victoria / RMS united states/disney dream / disney magic/disney wonder/disney fantasy/
The M/S Queen Elizabeth and the Victoria are not ocean liners, they're cruises... None of the Disney vessels are ocean liners either.
A lot wrong here, first of all it's not the RMS United States, why would it be called Royal Mail Ship? It's SS United States. Second of all, the Elizabeth and Victoria are not ocean liners, Cunard acknowledges this, they are cruise ships with ocean liner styling, as is the case with Disney's ships, cruise ships that look like ocean liners.

@@helenpeat3294 Yes I know. The Queen Mary Hotel in Long Beach California lent the horn to Cunard’s QM2. I knew that 9 years ago when I posted my original comment too! It’s been a while.
Someone needs to tell Carnival to stop naming all the Cunard ships with Queen, that designation should be left to the flagship. Change it to just Victoria, and rename the QE impostor to something like Saxonia
+Ronsmytheiii they have only owned Cunard for about 14-16 years, hence the probable reason
