When I am out traveling in the area in which I live, there are hundreds of homeless people. There are beggars on the street corner. Our taxes are out of this world--very expensive to live. When I hear the term "special relationship" it makes me think of lovers or some kind of romantic involvement; a relationship based on honesty, mutual respect and mutual commitment to the welfare of the other. This is decidedly not the relationship The US has with Israel. Ours is a parental relationship and not one of the good ones where we guide and counsel a child, but rather one where the child is willful and disobedient and the parent does nothing, choosing instead to make excuses for the wayward child. There are those who hate Jews simply on the basis of their Jewiosity. I reject this philosophy, but I am also opposed to wayward children. That was a good debate, but in my opinion a weak performance by the opposing side. 2 things (at least) missed partially or completely: 1. They failed to explain properly one of their very first points, which is that stepping back from the relationships with Israel will send a message of weakness and bring more demands. One of the main reasons this is true is the mentality and the nature of the Middle East, with which we the Israeli are very familiar. The Arab world thinks quite different from you guys, who always appreciate openness and sacrifices. Israel has made many steps in that direction, some of them were successful (thanks to the influence of the US), and we're prepared for more steps. But the vast majority of them only brought us to more violence and more demands, as our steps were not appreciated and respected as we expected, but taken as pure weakness. Following these examples you can only conclude that if and when the US government announces such a step-back, overnight you will see Arab countries taking steps directly opposing the expectations that it will be taken as respect and sacrifice, because they will only see weakness, and when they see weakness they exploit it immediately. 2. Mr. Cohen is cheating logic here: He stated a few times that the step-back is (a) "thinking out of the box" and opposing it is (b) "more of the same". He also said that (c) the peace process is doomed and (d) the solution lies only through giving up land. Israel's policy in the West Bank is far from perfect, and I've been there. It is not of course only our fault and responsibility. But let's not cheat logic: (a) is based on (b), which in turn is based on (c) and (d) together. Now, (c) is an assumption which is yet to be seen so there's no point in making decisions like it's a fact. I personally believe there is a chance for peace, simply because everyone agrees that the situation cannot continue. (d) is just wrong: Giving up land has proven useless again and again, not to mention the proposals in the last 15 years that "no one knows" why they were turned down (Hamas threats towards Palestinian leaders?). That means that it's not really "thinking out of the box" (a), it's actually "more of the same" (b). Desperate sacrifices assuming all is lost, giving up land, pressure on Israel are all more of the same. First off, I'm a dedicated supporter of Israel and their right to exist. That does NOT mean, however, they should be beyond review and criticism. I totally agree that we have given Israel way too much assistance and support. They are more than rich and powerful enough to absorb the loss of US taxpayer dollars. When I hear the term "special relationship" it makes me think of lovers or some kind of romantic involvement; a relationship based on honesty, mutual respect and mutual commitment to the welfare of the other. That was a good debate, but in my opinion a weak performance by the opposing side. 2 things (at least) missed partially or completely:
1. They failed to explain properly one of their very first points, which is that stepping back from the relationships with Israel will send a message of weakness and bring more demands.
One of the main reasons this is true is the mentality and the nature of the Middle East, with which we the Israeli are very familiar. The Arab world thinks quite different from you guys, who always appreciate openness and sacrifices. Israel has made many steps in that direction, some of them were successful (thanks to the influence of the US), and we're prepared for more steps. But the vast majority of them only brought us to more violence and more demands, as our steps were not appreciated and respected as we expected, but taken as pure weakness.
Following these examples you can only conclude that if and when the US government announces such a step-back, overnight you will see Arab countries taking steps directly opposing the expectations that it will be taken as respect and sacrifice, because they will only see weakness, and when they see weakness they exploit it immediately.
2. Mr. Cohen is cheating logic here: He stated a few times that the step-back is (a) "thinking out of the box" and opposing it is (b) "more of the same". He also said that (c) the peace process is doomed and (d) the solution lies only through giving up land.
Israel's policy in the West Bank is far from perfect, and I've been there. It is not of course only our fault and responsibility. But let's not cheat logic: (a) is based on (b), which in turn is based on (c) and (d) together.
Now, (c) is an assumption which is yet to be seen so there's no point in making decisions like it's a fact. I personally believe there is a chance for peace, simply because everyone agrees that the situation cannot continue.
(d) is just wrong: Giving up land has proven useless again and again, not to mention the proposals in the last 15 years that "no one knows" why they were turned down (Hamas threats towards Palestinian leaders?).
That means that it's not really "thinking out of the box" (a), it's actually "more of the same" (b). Desperate sacrifices assuming all is lost, giving up land, pressure on Israel are all more of the same. Out of the box would be pressure on Hamas for example, or proposing a not-Islamic-only state like Israel is not-Jewish-only, like someone said.

Yet the OPPOSITE happened: Peace deal after peace deal. "Thinking out of the box" right there.
Furthermore, it's been a consensus that the Palestinian issue is the number one concern in the Arab world. Nope, not even close. Just the latest examples how the west just doesn't understand the Middle East politically nor culturally.
As to your question: I'm not sure if you imply that the rockets into Israel are an Israeli conspiracy or genuinely don't get how a simple rocket like Qassam can be produced from simple materials, some smuggled but mostly legal.
That proposition was 12 years ago , the guys advocating for the proposition had far vision , if it was followed that we would be much better of now , and yes they were right , I always thought the same way that if United States steps back a little at least when they do something wrong , because Israel consider United States as a God Father is supporting them with money and weapon and the emotional support , and troops if they want , Israel became like the spoiled child that he know that the father would back him up , yes after 12 years I support the proposition and I think if United States Steps Back a little when Israel does wrong , that might help , President Jimmy Carter was able to put parties together to Camp David agreement for peace and for preventing wars and saving lives of all parties , and that led to lot of peace in the area for a long time , Jimmy Carter acted the way that I expect the president of United States to act , very neutral and very fair and does not side any one , I am Egyptian America I chose America to be my country because I thought that it was the best country in the world when it come to Justice , Freedom , and Human Rights , many people in Egypt they think so and they want to come to America, even from all over the world , what I mean to say they are all expecting a lot of perfection from the best country in the world , and they expect it to be neutral and not taking side.
I enjoyed the video , and I agree with every word of the proposition , we have to face the Fact that Israel and Palestine are neighbors they share borders , both of them have to feel safe , because they are stock with each other , I agree with expression that they say it's Not Me or Him It's Me and Him , I hope to see the day that they they will have peace together , and the children from both sides would be friends together , and when they grow up they might marry together , I never thought that war would help but it would make both neighbors are afraid from each other and make them enemy to each other.

Infact, why can't America condemn Israel when the went wrong. What is special relationship? even God Almighty whom we all worship punish us when we goes wrong. Let America reduce the relationship, but Arab nation do have hidden relationships among all Arab nations, without considering whether the are right or wrong.
First off, I'm a dedicated supporter of Israel and their right to exist. That does NOT mean, however, they should be beyond review and criticism. I totally agree that we have given Israel way too much assistance and support. They are more than rich and powerful enough to absorb the loss of US taxpayer dollars. That doesn't mean we should abandon them diplomatically or suspend all assistance. The question is one of balance.
We need to pressure them to stop building settlements. They are only hurting themselves by doing so.
