- Full step by step process for a Head Gasket replacement. This is for an Australian Holden Cruze (known as a Chevy Cruze in other locations) with the 1.8 F18D4 engine. This engine had coolant in the oil, was pressurising the coolant system and had a misfire. It was checked for CO2 in the cooling system to confirm a head gasket issue. If you are experiencing overheating it may not be a head gasket. Check all other possibilities first.
Some aspects may vary in different countries. This is the process that I used. The procedure may vary but this was used for ease of recording.
Sorry about the background insect noise.

Thanks mate , this got me right through a complete head replacement and an Oil pump replacement on my 2009 Cruze. I did notice you left out a few Torque settings for some of the bolts but real easy to find online. The cheat sheet for the Torque setting and passes for the head bolts is a must and i would suggest you have zero distractions as it is very easy to get lost through it.
Ty for the footage and detailed explanation, I watched all 16 videos over the past couple weeks as I rebuilt my sisters Sonic engine.
thanks for watching and the comment
Very informative video! appreciate the simple, down to the point steps.
Had my earphones on though and when the ex manifold came up the squeels were arrgh haha. Thanks for the video man! Subscribed
Sorry about that, just trying to wake you up. Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for showing me that
Glad it was helpful!
Hey mate great job quick question I have a 2011 holdern barina 1.6 litre are these cars ver similar
Can i get the head put without removing the exhaust manifold completely like can i unscrew the nuts on the head and pull the exhaust back a little so i can get it out ?
Do I need to drain if I’m catching before it blends together
First off I want to give you a huge thank you for this series. I've had to replace the head gasket on a 2013 Chevy Trax twice and both times I followed this series step by step. But for the latest maintenance job on it I've had to replace both cam gears because they were leaking and when putting on the new ones I made the mistake of over-torquing them and running the engine up to temperature. Now I need to get them off and they just will not budge. I've used cheater bars, I've hit them with the impact, tried heating them, tried shocking them with a hammer and nothing. Any idea on how I can get them off?
Edit: I'm referring to the torx bolts that fasten the cam gear to the camshaft.
Sorry for the slow reply, hope it’s sorted.
@@killawattgarage yeah, had to pull the cam shafts and cam gears out together and replace them.
What is the purpose of removing the exhaust pipe? I'm needing to replace the head gasket and radiator on my 2011.

How similar is the Cruise engine to the Sonic engine? I know someone wanting to sell a 2013 Sonic cheap because of a blown head gasket.
