They really need to ensure that the crowd stays quiet during debates. It needs to be like a court room so that instead of getting cheers while hurling insults, they'll really have to stick to their guns and talk about policy.
Live debate is always theater and even entertainment on some level. You can go back to Lincoln v. Douglas or Kennedy v. Nixon. They're not won on pure substance.
You win on rhetoric and applause lines not policy. Real debate discussion is best done in the written word following the rules of intellectual honesty, so people have time to cite sources, reasoning, evidence, logic, etc. But the mass of folks don't wanna read all that.
That’s not what the debates are for. The debates are not about convincing and persuading people. The debates are about who can generate the most noise.

I don't know why any of the candidates didn't just say if you love Trump so much, why are you running? By doing so, he can frame himself as worse than Trump, then he's a loser who really has no business running, or he can frame himself as better than Trump, and pretty much go backwards on everything he said about Trump during the debate.

Vivek is better than Trump in every way, so for some voting Vivek is a no brainer. Voting Vivek is win-win, you either get a better Trump or if he loses you still get Trump.
Also, one could argue that Vivek running ensures the America first movement will be maintained depending on whether or not Trump is arrested or removed from the ballot (he most likely won't).
With someone like Vivek running, the establishment can't subdue the America first agenda. If they arrest Trump, Vivek will win and be even better.

Can we just appreciate the "raise your hand" questions from the moderators? Definitely want to see more of this. I can appreciate how it doesn't always capture the nuance in answers because it's often not the case that complex questions can be answered with "yes" or "no" but at the same time, politicians skirt around the questions so often that they end up not answering anything at all.

I'm in my 50's and it's been all down hill. Don't get me wrong... the steepest decline has been the last decade. Prior to Trump the Republican Party had a platform. Ideals and a plan of sorts. I didn't always agree but they at least thought about it. Now they're just spouting catch-phrases and insults at anyone and everyone. I can't remember a single moment from this debate where anyone involved laid out a plan for the future that wasn't just "But THEY will ruin us so I _won't do that_ (which I just now claimed they want with no evidence).

Chris Christie did not either (he wagged his finger in a "no" gesture"). Watch the full debate as the moderators even come back around and ask him the question directly and he states the same. Paraphrasing: he will not support Trump if convicted, because Christie is for the Constitution, not one man.

I am 100% convinced these debates need to be held over a much longer time, and (theoretically) unbiased moderators step in to allow direct challenges to be defended with no interruptions. Mic goes mute for everyone until a subject has been addressed.

Pence is a liar. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that the VP when presiding over the joint session of Congress doesn't have the authority to reject electors or halt the proceedings to investigate legitimate claims of election fraud in a state.
His role in that position is not a perfunctory one to be executed pro forma without any power whatsoever. Otherwise, anyone could do it.

Vivek absolutely killed that debate, the others were just puppets. It was cool seeing Vivek so fired up, on all the podcasts Ive watched he's usually softer spoken and cordial. On stage he went for the shock factor. I think that was a good political move

I just don’t like how fake he comes off as. He may be genuinely focused on doing the right thing for the people but he just seems like a teacher’s pet. I could be wrong. I hope, if anything, he is like a teacher’s pet because he wants to be the best politician possible; If that’s even still possible these days. I think he’d be a good candidate for VP. I’m sure Trump is aware of his loyalty and the majority of the Republican Party’s base supports Trump and I believe he’s strategically positioning himself to be Trump’s VP and eventual successor.

Been watching the presidential election process for 50 yrs now. Couldn't watch more than 15 minutes of the debate. Afterthought was that every four years we choose a candidate, behind who we put our trust, elect them, then spend the next four years cussing them. No matter how I look at it the same adage about politicians and their lips moving comes to mind. Out of the 8 I see several "pretend not to be" rhinos, several that don't have a clue, one intelligent, exuberant outsider who has sees a challenge and problems to be dealt with; but I don't think he understands what he is up against- a government that doesn't want to be fixed!
They went after each other pretty hard, Trump not at all.

Trump led the field in the 2015 debates for pretty much the entirety of the the presidential campaign season, except for a couple of weeks in November where he was surpasses briefly by one candidate. That candidate was Ben Carson. Don't sleep on the quiet ones. You don't have to be loud to be effective.

Here's my observation from this video: The candidates went after Vivek because they were threatened. The Washington Post then only posts the attacks against him without a single highlight of his rebuttals or witty remarks. It makes me wonder if it's because the WP doesn't want to give Vivek any credit here because they also know he's a threat. Could be a coincidence, but it's enough to raise my eyebrows.
Spot on... WP just another institutional player that consistently shows it's not trustworthy.

Interesting how the crowd didn’t peep when Pence said I choose the constitution. That used to be a sound bite that would make them go wild.
What he really chose was to live to fight another day for the presidency. He had to consult constitutional scholars to be told that what Trumpians were trying to get him to do was unconstitutional. His whole reason for getting punked on purpose by Trump was to get a shot at being the President himself. His political career was already jugged before he entered the presidential race in 2016 and was selected by Trump as the most passive act right and subordinate vice president.

My favorite part is when DeSantis was asked if he agreed with Pence upholding the Constitution and he literally ignored the question and went off on his own tangent and refused to answer what was asked. A good politician or smart man would have been able to skillfully divert from the question. Apparently, he's neither and just ignored the scary question and went off on his own because he was afraid of alienating himself from half the party.

The worst thing Trump has done to the USA isn’t gonna be found in indictments, in his legislature, or his taxes, it will be found in all of the cheap sequels we get from Republican candidates trying to be the “next Trump.” And the worst part is they know he isn’t the best president, but the cult-like following for him is every politicians dream. We already see the result of Trump playing out with people like MTG or her brunette twin treating the house like it’s a social media app, thinking as long as people are looking at you, you’re doing something right.

GOP 2023: Vivek is unqualified as a rookie (even though he has displayed way more constitutional knowledge than Trump ever has and went to Yale to study law)
But does not know that EVERY American graduate from high school has to take and pass a government class. He wants them to take another proficiency test in order to be allowed to vote. That means they take two tests but immigrants take one test. He also wants to raise the voting age to 21. He is suspect!
