I was really hoping Shantien as the final elder dragon of Sunbreak instead of Amatsu that present in GU, Capcom have to add more frontier's monsters in upcoming MH since we got Espinas and everyone loves it.
What I *adore* about this fight more than anything is both the personality shown and contrast to Disufiroa, its rival. The fact that Shantien doesn’t notice you nor doesn’t take the fight seriously until later phases start pushing it shows how it feels about you-nothing but below it. And with the final phase turning into what was a pretty standard hunt into a test of survival is fitting. Shantien rarely uses fire, so of course its fire attacks, while deadly, are underdeveloped. If it weren’t for the combination of the hunter injuring it and the inexperience, that last big attack would’ve likely killed the hunter. The music growing more and more intense, adding more instrumentation, shows that growing resentment. In contrast to it is Disufiroa. Dude comes out swinging, using its strongest attack as soon as the fight begins, and the music is at its most intense. As the fight progresses, while still dangerous, it doesn’t go in swinging as much as it did to begin with, with the second and third phase themes becoming slower, later taking away instruments in the third part. Idk it’s something I noticed and really came to appreciate from a lore perspective and music perspective. Really shows the love and care put into making Shantien.
Me too, hopefully he does but I think from Frontier's roster Inagami or a frontier original monster that isn't an elder is more likely. Still I hope they bring some Frontier original monsters into Wilds
Never knew Shantien was just a Lagiacrus Texture swap until the 4th phase. That was really interesting to see in the gameplay here. And i don't even take issue in that, as Lagi really deserved a second Chance. Makes me wonder why they didn't bring Shantien back as an alternative to lagi that works better without underwater combat. The fight sure has potential
@@athos9293 Well Akantor changes certain attack attributes and is different in size, speed, adds more attacks and movement Animations but yeah they are also really close. At that point Rathalos and Rathian are more similar to each other
Although i got this rank mostly by repeatedly clearing an event quest from my server that features a Guanzorumu with buffed stats along with some friends

Shantien deserves the spotlight of a mainline game and we deserve the Shantien fight, just make it happen Capcom!
I hope he comes back to MH Wilds

It's criminal that we didn't get a 5th phase where he doesn't get a heart attack, similar to Disufiora breaking out of the ice.

It isn't a "Lagiacrus Texture swap". If it could be called that, then Akantor would just be a Tigrex texture swap too.

@@athos9293 that sounds sick, I'm at about GR800, I did it by clearing an event quest Dyuragaua, about 300 times. So that was grindy as hell lol
