Thank you so much for the detailed video. Our W day trail is in 2 weeks and we're so excited (but also a little nervous since this is our first multi day trekking trip). Coincidentally we're staying in the same refugios as you did - so you gave us a great taster. Thank you again!
Awesome photos and footage, we are heading to Antarctica and Patagonia in November and this was the best video we have seen on this area. Well done and thanks very much for taking the time to share your experience.
Thank You very much for this very informative video and the beatiful pictures. I really got a good impression and motivation to go there - thanks for you effort :) Best regards Uli
your video is very helpful to me as a newbie to a multi-day hiking tour. now i have a good idea how to plan this route. where to stay and what expect to see along the way. weather was definitely on your side.
Hi Fawn, I'm planning on going with a friend in January and she wants to do the W trek; sorry if it's a silly question but is there anyway to do this kind of hike if you have luggage with you or it's kind of mandatory to only be travelling with a large hiking rucksack? thx
Beautiful video Fawn, thanks so much for sharing it online! I read through the comments but it doesn’t seem that somebody asked already: except for the first day where you used your day backpack, do you have to bring all your backpacks with you from one stop to another? Or are you able to drop the big backpack at the first campsite/lodge and take it back once finished the W track? Thanks!
Awesome video! It makes me so excited to hike the W trek. Did you book the accommodations through an agency or did you do it all yourself? Tips on how to plan this trek would be beyond fantastic if you are willing to share of course. Again, great video!
Hi! I booked it on my own, it you search for the camps I mentioned, you should be able to book it directly. I went in April, which is off season so it's easier for booking!
That’s actually super impressive. The booking process overwhelms me greatly so far and keeps preventing me from pulling the plug haha. Good on you for being able to do that on your own! I’m actually curious about one last thing: how did you deal with the fear of doing it alone? Especially since it was your first multi day hike as a solo female. I will also do it as a solo female hiker and it actually really scares me haha. What if something goes wrong… what if I find myself in an unsafe position etc.
Hi, for this video, I just used my phone! (iphone 12) since then I've also added a gopro which I think is nicer quality. I am also looking into a real camera though, still doing research ^_^
It might take me a bit, when are you going? Most of the expense is the lodging inside the park, which can range from $10/night (you bring everything including tent and just rent the spot) to $50-$100 a night depends on if you want to stay at tent or dorm. I brought all my food except the dinner the first night ~$30 and purchased few drinks which was around $15. So in terms of lodging I would estimate I spent $350 for 3 nights (this would be less if you are sharing the room with someone else, I didn't). I spent $50/night at Puerto Natales, but you can get much cheaper or expensive lodging as well there.
Hey! August is not the best time to go as it's winter! The refugios are only open from October-May, you would need a private guide outside of those times.
Best video in terms of what to expect and places to stay! Love the fall foliage - may I know which week of March/April you went? I’d really love to catch fall there after seeing your video. Also did you book through a company or on your own? Which is better for a first time multi-day hiking experience?
Hi I was there April 18, I think even a week or two earlier would've been better as some leaves are falling, but every year is different. I booked on my own because it was the cheapest. I think for first time it's very doable on your own as there are many people on the trail. However going with a tour might save some time if you don't want to book each of the refugios.
Thanks for that! :) could you also throw some light on how many miles and elevation gain each of these hikes were? Alltrails doesn’t seem to have the details.
Hey Fawn, thank you so much for documenting your journey! Could you share with us where you bought your food from for the trip? I really really want to take cup noodles with me to Chile from Asia but I heard that Chile is very strict about any food being brought in.
WOW! Loved your video! Hoping I can go next year so I'm saving up and preparing! Do you mind me asking how much was your budget/costs for this portion of the trip? Also noticed you had hiking poles, which ones did you get and do you recommend them?
I rented the hiking poles from my hostel (Corner Hostel in puerto natales) I forgot how much but it wasn't expensive. My budget was a big high for this trip, the lodging is not cheap like $100 a night to stay in dorms. The tent option is cheaper around $40 a night, it's even cheaper to bring your own tent $7 for the campground.
Q)What time should you arrive at ” camping Grey, you can then board the boat that sails right to the facade of Glacier Grey” I’m trying to find the boat information kindly share if you happen to have it
Hey, check out the official lago grey navigation website, there are multiple boats daily, camping grey is only 10 minute walk from the doc so you can just arrive before the boat leaves. I think my boat was leaving around 2pm, but that could've changed. Good luck!
Thank you for the very informative video, beautiful hike!! I'm also planning a solo trip to the W trek this November, unfortunately the refugios at Frances and Cuernos are already booked out. Only options are camps and I don't want to bring camping gear with me. Did you have trouble finding availability for the refugios? I assume you booked on the Las Torres & Vertice websites? If there truly aren't spots, do you know if I can skip this section somehow?
Hello, I didn't have issues with booking but I went during low season in April. I think there are few other camps available close to those two, maybe Italiano? You can also rent tents from the refugios if you don't want to bring the gear. Yes, I booked using those two websites.
@@travelwithfawn Gotcha, thank you! I looked at the availability for Cuernos and Frances next April, they are also pretty booked up, which is insane. Might have to consider alternative routes.
Nice video and info! Just wondering if i can stay in 1 place in TDP instead moving around? Because i am not light traveller as my main reason to go there is for a friend's wedding in Santiago
Yes you can stay in Puerto Natales and then do day trips to the park everyday, you can book directly through your hotel. Just fly into Puerto Natales from Santiago.
@@travelwithfawn thanks for fast response. Yes i will fly on 27th nov to PN. But can i stay in TDP and go for a hike (eg W circuit) on daily basis or do i have to go from point 1 to point 2 to point 3 in 1 go? Can i go like Point 1 and 2 on day 1, return to the same hotel.. then Point 3 to Point 4 and return to same hotel.
Do you know if there’s a bus that we can take from grey lago hotel to puerto Natalie’s? We are planning the same itinerary as you. Thank you. Very helpful
I'm not certain since I didn't stay at Lago Grey Hotel, but the transportation is very mature in the park, so it should be easy to get there by bus and the hotel can probably pick you up/drop off somewhere if it's not direct.
Yes, I think the opposite way is more popular! And you would see the sunrise at the three towers, which I hear really nice! When I went, the weather seemed unpredictable and I wanted to maximize my chance of seeing the towers so I started on a day when the weather seemed the most clear to go to the tower. However it turned out the weather was great all 4 days.
Hi this really depends if you are going high or low season. I booked on the official website, you can check out the detail in my blog (in description) I only booked couple days ahead when I got to Puerto Natales, but this is only possible if you go during low season (April)
Great Video, I was planning to take a tour group until I watched your video that it can be done solo. Would you mind telling me how much did you spend for the 4 days trip? I will be travelling on March 2024 Thank you
