It was very tone deaf. The exhibit was "sleeping beauties, reawakening fashion" and the theme "the garden of time" based on the book. The obvious reference that they wanted, was the effort made to save and preserve art, even when the end is imminent. But i cannot imagine how no one thought that with two massive wars going on, there wouldn't be a connection between the theme and the reality. With the rich enjoying a luxurious event, while people outside are screaming for justice.

To be honest out of all the celebrity events to be mad at I think the MET gala is in my eyes one of the least problematic because for a change they have to *pay 30k* to be there which goes towards the museum and conservation of fashion.

Fashion isn't just rich people dressing up fancy, it's part of our history and culture. The garments the met preserves can tell us so much about the past, be it construction methods, which can tell us about the tools and technologies available at the time, or style, which can tell us about what was culturally valuable, to any other myriad of things. We hardly do anything without clothes, and thus they can tell our stories long after we've gone.

I would like that, yes. Many in fact would. Let's put it this way-if I was truly proud of a piece of artwork I had created or been involved with, I would want as many people to see that as possible. People who like the medium, or just like art in general. People all around the world, with the freedom and true peace to just live the lives they are owed. In that sense, making art feels like nothing to me if there's people both across the world and within these borders that are forced to focus on food and water and shelter.

I’m frustrated that so many people don’t realize that the metropolitan museum of art has to fund the Costume Institute on its own, unlike any other collection in the museum, and so take donations and host fundraisers - the most prominent of which is the Met Gala. It’s all sparkle and glam where the rich and famous get to have their pictures taken and design houses show off their gowns or jewelry, but the money for every plate goes to the museum to keep the fashion galleries open to the public because they *are not funded* like the rest of the museum.

The Met Gala always just looks like they're reminding us who is in District 1. Too many people are too blinded by the shinies of their favorite mega-rich celebrity to notice.
It shows that most of these celebrities have no idea what the story is about and all they heard was garden. If they wanted to keep with the vibe of the Met while actually honoring the theme, they would have done more so minimalist and understated outfits with very natural materials and perhaps real flowers as the embellishments. I'm a self-taught fashion photographer and can tell you the thing I hate most about celebrities is when they think that the world revolves around them. I have more respect for someone well known that is nice to everyone and never rude just because they are who they are. I don't get the whole 'look at me' mentality and spending $1000s just to play dress up for 1 day and show how vein you are by wanting your photo taken so everyone can see you. I've photographed some gorgeous models in my lifetime that didn't have this attitude nor mentality and we became friends. I like being around 'down to earth' people and that's why I will never be successful in fashion photography on the celebrity level.

It was very tone deaf. The exhibit was "sleeping beauties, reawakening fashion" and the theme "the garden of time" based on the book. The obvious reference that they wanted, was the effort made to save and preserve art, even when the end is imminent. But i cannot imagine how no one thought that with two massive wars going on, there wouldn't be a connection between the theme and the reality. With the rich enjoying a luxurious event, while people outside are screaming for justice.

To be honest out of all the celebrity events to be mad at I think the MET gala is in my eyes one of the least problematic because for a change they have to *pay 30k* to be there which goes towards the museum and conservation of fashion.
Exactly! Yeah celebrity culture sucks, but at least this one event is in service to the arts! Especially because the Met is one of the few public museums that has to actively fund /itself/. Fashion isn't just rich people dressing up fancy, it's part of our history and culture. The garments the met preserves can tell us so much about the past, be it construction methods, which can tell us about the tools and technologies available at the time, or style, which can tell us about what was culturally valuable, to any other myriad of things. We hardly do anything without clothes, and thus they can tell our stories long after we've gone.

Please don’t believe every uninformed person on the Internet and just use the Internet to answer the most simplest questions that you have about a topic you know nothing about. That is why I know you’re misinformed about the Met Gala because every point you’ve brought up has nothing to do with the Met Gala or the celebrities that attend it. Especially when they didn’t become popular because they were political, so why all of a sudden would you expect them to get political? Isn’t that what politicians are for? They are the ones that handle politics and wars and saying their stance on these issues.

I’m frustrated that so many people don’t realize that the metropolitan museum of art has to fund the Costume Institute on its own, unlike any other collection in the museum, and so take donations and host fundraisers - the most prominent of which is the Met Gala.
It’s all sparkle and glam where the rich and famous get to have their pictures taken and design houses show off their gowns or jewelry, but the money for every plate goes to the museum to keep the fashion galleries open to the public because they *are not funded* like the rest of the museum.
I don't know why people suddenly want celebrities to raise awareness, they have been numerous times they could have in the past but they always stayed neutral so why would it be different now? Also most of them donate and raise funds for a lot of things
The Met Gala always just looks like they're reminding us who is in District 1. Too many people are too blinded by the shinies of their favorite mega-rich celebrity to notice.

It shows that most of these celebrities have no idea what the story is about and all they heard was garden. If they wanted to keep with the vibe of the Met while actually honoring the theme, they would have done more so minimalist and understated outfits with very natural materials and perhaps real flowers as the embellishments. I think people forget that....the celebrities arent....they arent paying for those tickets? Its the fasion designers? The dresses and suits are all made by them, and they select WHO they want to make that garment for? Not.....its a ART showcase.....but also its mostly being boycotted for recent world goings(i fear the wrath of youtube, but others have also pointed it out.)

Having everyone put on pedestals feels twisted when you know those dollars could go towards charities or filling empty stomachs.

I have an idea for a met gala theme. What if the theme was elegance and authenticity? Celebs just try their best to find a look that fits them uniquely, without unnecessary stress about staying on theme and wearing crazy uncomfortable outfits.
They don’t pick their clothes themselves. It’s designers who pick celebs to wear their garments.
And the gala is held by VOUGE and Anna WinterWitch or whatever her name is are in charge. And she’s the embodiment of “old money first class” woman and want to exclude the class of us lower simpletons and peasants.

Thoughts on celebrities? Outside of actors, exclusively while they're In the film or show they're acting in? Don't care in the slightest really... I like and passively follow a band or singer here and there, and i get a little excited if one of my favorite actors is set to return in a favorite franchise, but beyond that i don't care. Honestly, i think there's better uses of time, money and attention from common folk than paying people to stalk famous people that are often obsessed with themselves getting attention.

I'm a self-taught fashion photographer and can tell you the thing I hate most about celebrities is when they think that the world revolves around them. I have more respect for someone well known that is nice to everyone and never rude just because they are who they are. I don't get the whole 'look at me' mentality and spending $1000s just to play dress up for 1 day and show how vein you are by wanting your photo taken so everyone can see you. I've photographed some gorgeous models in my lifetime that didn't have this attitude nor mentality and we became friends. I like being around 'down to earth' people and that's why I will never be successful in fashion photography on the celebrity level.

All my friends were talking about zendayas (idc/idk how to spell her name) dress. She looks like an emo peacock. I think she’s beautiful but that dress was not it.
This has nothing to do with the theme being on the nose and people hating just cause they’re rich, but a discussion of the rich being ignorant to their privileges and not using their influence to help others. The reason this event throws up so much discussion is because of the cost of the tickets and the idea that if these celebrities have the money to pay for a ticket to this event then why don’t they donate to charities or organizations that are trying to save lives? Key note being that most of the conversations people concerned with the need of charity work for children and their families in Gaza. It’s painful for people who want to help. To see others having the power and influence to make a difference, but choosing not to. Hope this explanation helps ❤ side note: yes the met gala is a fundraiser and is important for preserving fashion history. This is not a conversation that there should be no met gala, but that proof that celebs have the ability and influence to do more for those in need.
