practical claw for over a year, but I use the index fingers to also press the l1/r1 buttons, and the middle fingers only press the l2/r2. any tips? should i change?
Your middle finger should be resting on R2 with claw. You should be able to bounce between R1 and R2 seamlessly with your middle finger. If that’s uncomfortable, then something me be wrong with your grip. I’d go back to the beginning of this video and carefully watch each part.
Ayo i been playing claw for years and recently my finger has been hurting throughout all the joints. I think its because my hands have grown bigger but idk. Can u help me?
It's hard to say what's really going on. My first guess would be the grip you're using isn't right. It doesn't matter the size of your hand, anyone can claw if done properly. If your finger is crunched up like I mentioned in the video, your grip is definitely off. Follow the steps to make sure you're holding the controller more comfortably. My grip can get sloppy after awhile, but if I come back to the fundamentals, I bounce right back.

Great video, one issue I’m currently having is that my ring and pinky finger feel uncomfortable. My ring finger also seems to jigger when my middle finger makes a motion.
Sounds like those fingers may not be resting on the controller properly. Make sure to go through the fundamentals of the grip and ensure those fingers support the back of the controller. They should not be squeezing onto the controller and holding on for dear life.

I’ve attempted to play claw in the past but obviously i got frustrated bc it just felt so unnatural but i’m gonna try and give it another go.
The best advice I can give you is be patient. It takes time to adjust. You’re going to feel weird and miss shots you typically don’t miss. Little by little you’ll notice the improvement and then it’ll be second nature playing this way.
@@temptation1 that’s the plan! I feel like it’ll pay off in the end & actually save me $$$ on spending money on these controllers that hardly last u nowadays. Thank you!

You can grip the controller normal on the left. If you really want to learn double claw, I have a video on that too in my claw playlist. Feel free to watch that as well.
I have a question: i've been trying to play claw on my pro controller (Nintendo Switch) and i have experienced middle finger pain while hitting the trigger and a pretty hurtful cramp while hitting the bottom face button, could you give me some advice? Nice video tho
To me it sounds like the controller is too much in the palm of your hand. The right side of the controller should be more in the fingers and your right hand rotated to feel a bit on top of the controller. I hope that makes sense.
Sounds to me like your hand is too under the controller making it difficult for your thumb to stay centered. You need to rotate your right hand a bit on top of the controller.
@@temptation1 even when I rotate my hand on top it just feels like I have more control with the middle of my thumb as it feels slippery when I use the top of my thumb
I have. I also have a few requests to update my how to video using the DualSense. Works the same as the DS4. I’ll be working on a new video over the coming weeks for the PS5 controller though.
@@temptation1 I do the same cuz I play apex and under pressure I keep my index finger resting on triangle to easily switch guns or holster them which makes u run quicker
I’ve just switched from using an Xbox controller to using a ps4 and I’m having a hard time trying to claw. I just can’t get it to feel right not just on the right side but on the left side as well since the joystick is lower down. Anyone else clawed on both controllers and if so what is better for claw ?
I agree with Rig. The PlayStation layout is just easier in my opinion. I also think the joysticks feel so much smoother. You can claw on either though.
One week to get somewhat comfortable. Probably took 30 days to get to a point where I was on par, or close to it, with how I played with back buttons. It’s worth the switch if you’re willing to learn something new, especially if you want to save some cash.
May you please do a other version of double claw? For Xbox controller? I’m trying to get use to it but for some reason my left index finger on my left hand won’t stay put on my move button.
I made a video for Xbox here: ruclips.net/video/miXz_JdBI-k/видео.html. I wouldn’t recommend double claw on an Xbox layout. It’s going to be tough to adjust to using your left pointer to move with the left stick. I briefly talk about this in the video I provided above. The video only covers right hand claw though.
Im not even trying to learn claw itself, just shooting with the middle finger so i can use r1 at the same time i shoot, but my aim feels so weird i can play like this with my left hand, even claw with it, but with my right hand feels so weird to aim, how do i fix that?
That really shouldn't be much of a problem since you're not even using the pointer finger to hit face buttons but rather R1 only. This all comes down to practice in the end. It's going to feel weird for a while, but you need to continue to push past the comfort issues. The one thing you should be considering though is how rotated your right wrist is. If you're trying to hold the controller traditionally, you may feel weird trying to aim. You need to rotate your right wrist to the top of the controller more as if you're playing right hand claw.
He just said that the reason why to play with the claw grip is that you don’t need to take your thumps of the sticks. But are there more reasons why, like you are faster in playing or something like that
Core reason is to not take the thumbs off the sticks. Because of this, it allows you to quickly hit face buttons, since you’re not taking thumbs off the sticks. Your movement is a lot cleaner and faster.
It won’t change your accuracy. It allows you to hit face buttons while keeping your right thumb on the stick. It’ll allow you to stay on target, because you’re not taking your thumb off the stick. Your movement will also get better from being able to hit buttons such as jump or slide quicker.
Sounds like your hand is too rotated on top of the controller, which is causing you to peck the face buttons with your finger nail tip. Not a big deal unless it bothers you. If it does, rotate your hand the opposite direction to correct it.
@@Grevontaontop Sounds like the controller is probably too deep in your palm. Watch the video a few times and try to mimic every step. You shouldn’t be experiencing pain hitting the face buttons.
Ok but what if your hands are like really, really small? It feels like I can't reach the joystick without stretching too far and hurting my index finger.
Sounds like your right hand needs to be a little more rotated on top of the controller rather than on the side like you would holding the controller traditionally.
Lol i shoot with L1 as a lefty and my index finger. The controller slipped out of my hands when i tried this . I have the sonny back paddles , cost like 30 euros
I wouldn't say it improves aim. In the beginning your aim will be off, because this will be foreign to you. After a week or two of playing this way, your aim should be relatively be on par with how it is now. This grip really improves your movement, since you can press face buttons easier.
It will. You’re doing something totally different than what you’re used to. If you move the thumb slightly and can still claw comfortably, then that’s okay too. This is just my recommendation having tried several different thumb positions to be comfortable.
@@temptation1 okay. I’m glad I watched your video though. I’ve been playing a few months with my thumb hanging over the stick and my middle finger too.
It’s definitely challenging to hit both of those together. It’ll get easier with time. If you’re playing a game like CoD, I suggest using flipped, so you can shoot with R1 instead. Makes it a lot easier.
@@Idk56373 Okay. Just going to have to keep practicing. It gets easier with time. It took me a while to get used to it playing Fortnite. I learned claw playing that game specifically. If you can claw on that game, you can play any game out there with claw. I truly believe that.
Yo I been play claw for a while now. But I keep see things like arthritis and other stuff that can be bad for your fingers, should I stop playing claw? Also I’m 14 years old
Listen to your body. If your hands feel fine, you’re good. I’d also do some hand stretches if you’d like. It doesn’t hurt. That’s for sure. I’d worry about hand issues if you were clawing wrong. That’s where the issues are going to come into effect.
I played traditional grip for probably ~25 years then switched to claw January 2021. I made my original video to help people who wanted to switch and weren’t sure if they were doing it right or would ever find it comfortable.
While trying to learn COD, I * hate * how crouch/prone is mapped to O or B, and can't be remapped so far as I can tell ( PC Steam version aftermarket controller ) to where melee is currently ( push down on right stick )
@@temptation1 When I try to switch it, the button is ghosted or won't work. It's really frustrating. Something is keeping me from switching it. I don't have a PS4 controller, just using a cheap Chinese one, is that the culprit? I have to order a Dualshock. Thanks for responding
Have you rotated your right hand on top of the controller enough? If your simply gripping traditionally, getting your middle finger to be active on the right bumper or trigger will be tough. Does that make sense?
@@Cava_ Yes. Email me your email address and I’ll make a quick video of what may be making it difficult to use your middle finger on the right trigger and bumper.
Ok so idk why but whenever I try to just Olay casually my right thumb will just tend to jitter a lot and it will fuck up my thumb position when I aim. And it's hard to get right of that habit. It's mainly when I shoot with my middle finger it happens idk why
@@solarenity Sounds to me like you’re stretching your thumb to reach for the right stick. That would mean your right hand isn’t properly rotated. It should feel more on top of the face of the controller not under.
I’ve gone back and forth. In this video I was playing tactical flipped. I’ve been playing default flipped in Vanguard. Pushing the right stick for crouching would sometimes throw my shot off, so I switched. I’ve since moved over to Halo Infinite and play Bumper Jumper on that game.
@@temptation1 it’s my third claw day and everything it’s ok except a little tension of the outer palm of the hand and the outer of the arm. Is it normal? Did u have similar situations at the beginning?

I’ve attempted to play claw in the past but obviously i got frustrated bc it just felt so unnatural but i’m gonna try and give it another go.
The best advice I can give you is be patient. It takes time to adjust. You’re going to feel weird and miss shots you typically don’t miss. Little by little you’ll notice the improvement and then it’ll be second nature playing this way.
@@temptation1 that’s the plan! I feel like it’ll pay off in the end & actually save me $$$ on spending money on these controllers that hardly last u nowadays. Thank you!
@@based-23 That’s definitely true. 60 vs 200 is a big difference, especially when the life span of controllers isn’t all that long.
Im jumping like with my thumb and moving my stick with it, my index finger is on the other 3 buttons and r1 and my middle finger is on r2! But idk how du play with my left hand it’s comfortable to use my middle finger on the left side for l1 and l2 than I can aim good but idk I’m play claw for 5 years and still think I can improve a lot. What is ur opinion for this?
And sry for my English it’s not perfect I’m from Germany
You can grip the controller normal on the left. If you really want to learn double claw, I have a video on that too in my claw playlist. Feel free to watch that as well.
@@temptation1thank u very much, much love for u and ur channel ❤️
@@Isa-no9om Appreciate it!
Thank you so much big brother hehe! ❤️🔥
what button layout do you use
Tactical flipped
I'm trying to do the 5 or 6 fingers claw but my fingers are just so small
Thank you! This helps me alot
Happy to hear.
Any tips i play claw but i get pain in my lower palm area under my pinky its so annoying i dont know what to do but enjoy playing claw alot
Sounds like your hand should be rotated more on top of the controller to prevent reaching which would cramp your palm.
@@temptation1okay thank you going to try to give this a try is it supposed to feel so uncomfortable or am i still holding my controller wrong
@@Daqnotdak It takes time to adjust and may uncomfortable in the beginning but really shouldn’t be painful.
@@temptation1 thanks once again gonna try to adjust
@@Daqnotdak Any time. Let me know if you have more questions.
@@temptation1 get it! So i have my palm doesn't have to be touching the controller at all? Just the tip of my pinky and ring right?
@@hamiltonics Exactly!
@@temptation1 thanks!
@hamiltonics Happy to help! Good luck.
I struggle placing my thumb directly in the centre of the joystick as it always slips of any tips?
Sounds to me like your hand is too under the controller making it difficult for your thumb to stay centered. You need to rotate your right hand a bit on top of the controller.
@@temptation1 even when I rotate my hand on top it just feels like I have more control with the middle of my thumb as it feels slippery when I use the top of my thumb
@lith987 Just to confirm. You’re not using the tip of your thumb close to your thumbnail, correct?
@@temptation1 I think I was is that where I went wrong?
@lith987 I think so. It would be pretty hard to keep the tip of your finger on the middle of the stick.
Have you tried this with the PS5 controller yet?
I have. I also have a few requests to update my how to video using the DualSense. Works the same as the DS4. I’ll be working on a new video over the coming weeks for the PS5 controller though.
I play with ring finger on r2 and middle on r1 and index claw is that bad?
Not at all. If that's what's comfortable, keep doing it.
Where does the index finger go when u press the triggers?
I usually rest mine above triangle and press the trigger on the right with my middle finger.
@@temptation1 I do the same cuz I play apex and under pressure I keep my index finger resting on triangle to easily switch guns or holster them which makes u run quicker
@@gokublack337 Good to know. Haven’t played Alex much. When I do, I usually play kbm anyway.
@@temptation1 well,it’s good that u now know👍🏽
Would it be harder playing claw with kontrolfreeks??
Not at all. I have a pair, and I go back and forth using them all the time. No different.
I’ve just switched from using an Xbox controller to using a ps4 and I’m having a hard time trying to claw. I just can’t get it to feel right not just on the right side but on the left side as well since the joystick is lower down. Anyone else clawed on both controllers and if so what is better for claw ?
i play on both controller and in my opinion playstation controller is much easier to play with claw
@@rigjuice734 yeah I think I just needed to get used to it since I’d been clawing on Xbox for like 3 years
I agree with Rig. The PlayStation layout is just easier in my opinion. I also think the joysticks feel so much smoother. You can claw on either though.
Hi man great video. How long did it take for u to get good at claw?
One week to get somewhat comfortable. Probably took 30 days to get to a point where I was on par, or close to it, with how I played with back buttons. It’s worth the switch if you’re willing to learn something new, especially if you want to save some cash.
Thank you very much for the tips crack🙏🤘
@@temptation1 okay thank you
@@voibzx Happy to help!
Would claw help improve my accuracy? Or just movement? Thanks
It won’t change your accuracy. It allows you to hit face buttons while keeping your right thumb on the stick. It’ll allow you to stay on target, because you’re not taking your thumb off the stick. Your movement will also get better from being able to hit buttons such as jump or slide quicker.
That controller looks cleeeeeeean
How do i stop clicking the buttons with my index finger nail
Sounds like your hand is too rotated on top of the controller, which is causing you to peck the face buttons with your finger nail tip. Not a big deal unless it bothers you. If it does, rotate your hand the opposite direction to correct it.
Its not comfortable to press the buttons with kinda like the right of ur index and also how can u press R2 easily?
You get pretty used to it. R2 is hit with your middle finger.
@@temptation1 ight thx
@@kmaank2357 any time
Brother could you do double claw tutorial pls ?
Don’t see why not. I can probably do a single vs double claw video if you really want.

@@ICE_FROGX Okay. Understood. What game are you playing?
@@temptation1 apex legends, sir
@icefrogx6795 Ok. Do you mean L2 or R2?
I started playing claw today and this claw hurts my finger a lot that is going to the middle of the shapes idk
What do you mean by going to the middle of the shape?
The square x and triangle and circle
@@Grevontaontop Sounds like the controller is probably too deep in your palm. Watch the video a few times and try to mimic every step. You shouldn’t be experiencing pain hitting the face buttons.
Oh ok thank you
Ok but what if your hands are like really, really small? It feels like I can't reach the joystick without stretching too far and hurting my index finger.
Sounds like your right hand needs to be a little more rotated on top of the controller rather than on the side like you would holding the controller traditionally.
Thanks bro 💯
What’s the advantage of using this technique
The ability to hit the face buttons without taking your thumbs off the analog sticks.
Claw is good for ST battefront hook swings
Never played it. Good to know though!
Lol i shoot with L1 as a lefty and my index finger. The controller slipped out of my hands when i tried this . I have the sonny back paddles , cost like 30 euros
Thank u for the help I play Minecraft with claw.
Does it improve aim too?
I wouldn't say it improves aim. In the beginning your aim will be off, because this will be foreign to you. After a week or two of playing this way, your aim should be relatively be on par with how it is now. This grip really improves your movement, since you can press face buttons easier.
What’s your edit button on fortnite?
R3
@@temptation1 thanks!
Playing with right thumb centered feels really awkward. Any help?
@@reneespinal-lopez5526 Glad you found the video helpful. Good luck!
I just can’t press r2 and x at the same time my finger goes up over the triangle.
It’s definitely challenging to hit both of those together. It’ll get easier with time. If you’re playing a game like CoD, I suggest using flipped, so you can shoot with R1 instead. Makes it a lot easier.
@@temptation1 I’m mainly playing Fortnite
@@Idk56373 Okay. Just going to have to keep practicing. It gets easier with time. It took me a while to get used to it playing Fortnite. I learned claw playing that game specifically. If you can claw on that game, you can play any game out there with claw. I truly believe that.
Do you shoot with bumpers?
In CoD I do.
Yo I been play claw for a while now. But I keep see things like arthritis and other stuff that can be bad for your fingers, should I stop playing claw? Also I’m 14 years
old
Listen to your body. If your hands feel fine, you’re good. I’d also do some hand stretches if you’d like. It doesn’t hurt. That’s for sure. I’d worry about hand issues if you were clawing wrong. That’s where the issues are going to come into effect.
@@temptation1 Also one more question how long have you been playing claw
I played traditional grip for probably ~25 years then switched to claw January 2021. I made my original video to help people who wanted to switch and weren’t sure if they were doing it right or would ever find it comfortable.
@@temptation1 thank you for the information. I was getting worried if I should stop I, thought that I might get arthritis in the long run
@@King-vt3qi I feel like if I haven’t had a hand problem in my thirties from doing this, you’d probably be better off than me.
While trying to learn COD, I * hate * how crouch/prone is mapped to O or B, and can't be remapped so far as I can tell ( PC Steam version aftermarket controller ) to where melee is currently ( push down on right stick )
You’ve been able to play tactical layout since early CoDs. That will swap melee and crouch around so that crouch is now R3 and melee is O/B.
@@temptation1 When I try to switch it, the button is ghosted or won't work. It's really frustrating. Something is keeping me from switching it. I don't have a PS4 controller, just using a cheap Chinese one, is that the culprit? I have to order a Dualshock.
Thanks for responding
@@Aspiring-Hobo That’s your issue. It’s the knock off controller. A genuine DualShock 4 should fix that.
Bro im trying right hand claw bit I just can't lift up my middle finger to hit any of the triggers please help
Have you rotated your right hand on top of the controller enough? If your simply gripping traditionally, getting your middle finger to be active on the right bumper or trigger will be tough. Does that make sense?
@@temptation1 idk what you mean by rotating your hand
@@Cava_ Email me your email, and I’ll explain in a video. tempdiesel.gaming@gmail.com
@@temptation1 so do I shoot you a email
@@Cava_ Yes. Email me your email address and I’ll make a quick video of what may be making it difficult to use your middle finger on the right trigger and bumper.
Idk if its just cause my fingers are too bit but jesus this hurts 😭
Shouldn’t. May be doing it wrong.
@@temptation1idk why but my the thumb right thumb seems to kind of just randomly jitter at certain points
Can you elaborate?
Ok so idk why but whenever I try to just Olay casually my right thumb will just tend to jitter a lot and it will fuck up my thumb position when I aim. And it's hard to get right of that habit. It's mainly when I shoot with my middle finger it happens idk why
@@solarenity Sounds to me like you’re stretching your thumb to reach for the right stick. That would mean your right hand isn’t properly rotated. It should feel more on top of the face of the controller not under.
How did you set up to play claw?
What do you mean by that?

@@Pantelos125 Welcome
Do you play default or tactical?
I’ve gone back and forth. In this video I was playing tactical flipped. I’ve been playing default flipped in Vanguard. Pushing the right stick for crouching would sometimes throw my shot off, so I switched. I’ve since moved over to Halo Infinite and play Bumper Jumper on that game.
@@temptation1 it’s my third claw day and everything it’s ok except a little tension of the outer palm of the hand and the outer of the arm. Is it normal? Did u have similar situations at the beginning?
