I think the worst thing is something that you didn't mention properly: you don't have continuous autofocus, once you focus and press record, in order to change the focus you need to stop recording and focus again. Meaning, if you are filming yourself and you want to show your car, you need to stop recording, focus and start over. Genius. Love the videos buddy

The limitations could be workable if this were a budget option, but it's $900CAD. If you're going to make an expensive action camera, there's no excuse for not having AFC, and if you're not going to put in AFC then there's no excuse for it being expensive.

I agree that the Sony X 3000 is the best blogging camera with just a few minor tweaks it would be perfect… 1. A tiny flip out screen with video playback capabilities. or make the screen backlit LCD screen. 2.longer battery life 3. improvement on the battery door mechanism for changing batteries feels like it’s going to break soon. 4. microphone gain controls and a level meter on the screen. 5. ability to hear audio through the waterproof case better. 6. improvements to overheating issues especially when inside the waterproof case on a sunny day 7. and 240 fps in full HD.
It's funny you're using the wired remote. I started doing that about two months ago too. Best $10 I ever spent, and I feel like such a "photographer" when I press the button, or a dental hygienist taking xrays.

Tony, the R&D engineer is working on a replacement for your X3000. He tells me he will give you a flippy screen, but he will be taking away image stability and moving to a 24mm lens. He says Stacey Neistat would like it...
apparently it has minor digital stabilisation in body, but slightly improved stabilisation through the app.

I saw your x3000 vid, never commented... but I agree. It is one of the best vlogging cameras period. It has it's downsides, but it's great for 85% of what you need. Always in focus, decent audio, great stabilization. Push button. Turns on, go. They haven't updated it because it still sells like crazy because it is just so good, even vs GoPro's new offerings... so they haven't developed it further.
I am an owner of an RX0 also though, and I have to tell you. I like it a lot. It's fantastic, but it is limited in use because there is no stabilization. The picture quality you can get out of it is phenomenal because it's an RX100 in a tiny body, and the 1 inch sensor is far better than most of the other pea sized sensors in the GoPro etc. The flippy screen on the RX0 II has me interested in upgrading, but the price just flat out sucks, and the fact that in reality, it's only a software upgrade with a flippy screen added and stabilization. That's what really pisses me off about it. They pissed all over their existing RX0 buyers. They had enough edge pixels to enable stabilization on the RX 0, and in hacking around in the firmware, all the same bitrates and resolutions they enabled on the RX0 II already exist on the RX0. They just enabled them. That gets my goat more than anything else.
It's only feature locked so that they can sell you the same hardware, flippy screen, and a software update. When a firmware update comes out for RX0, I am going to try and get the 0 II firmware hacked onto my 0.
EDIT: Also, one of the cool things about the RX0 series is that it works with the x3000 remote... which I own since I have a bunch of x3000's... that remote is fantastic... and if you get the filter adapter which is about $10, you can mount any filter or wide angle lens on the RX0.
The quest for perfect camera setting is gonna be your new mantra.

Don't knock the RX0 II until you try it. First of all, it's not a vlogging camera or an action camera. It was designed as a production camera. You can turn it into an excellent vlogging camera by mounting it on a G6 gimbal. It puts it at the right distance for vlogging, and it records rock steady footage. Just add a lapel mic and you are good to go. The RX0 doesn't have continuous auto focus like the RX100. What it does have is a button on the back for near focus, and far focus. So when pointed at you in vlogging mode, you hit the enter key to put it in near focus mode. When you point it away from you, you hit the enter button to put it on far focus mode. As long as you remember to do that, it focuses just fine. If not, it will not focus correctly. A lot of reviewers don't know that because they don't own the camera, so they complained about the focus. I own an RX0, and my focuses just fine, because I remember to switch it from near and far focus. Once you mount the RX0 on a G6 gimbal, it's like having an Osmo Pocket on steroids. The best thing about the RX0 is that it has adjustable mic gain, something that the X3000 desperately needs.
It is a vlogging camera, that's exactly how Sony themselves are marketing it. If you need a gimbal for a tiny camera that weighs 100 grams, you just ruined the point. Would be better off with the x3000 or a cell phone at that point.

Hey, don't use HLG, it is not a good mode to use straight out of camera without grading or converting to rec 709. Just use Natural, Standard, Cine D or Cine V profiles.

I love your videos; you're an American original--well, a Canadian original. I have the Sony RX0; it's not a vlogging camera or an action camera, it's an all-weather, all-terrain travel camera. As for vlogging, my iPhone 6s Plus would work fine for 98 pct of the vlogs I see on RUclips. Rock on!
The Sony ZV1 is the sequel "vlogging" camera we did not want. Make the ZV1 into a proper "bridge" camera, with better color science, Sony.

also f4 on that sensor gives you a dof of f10-11 fullframe equivalent and this at 24mm means little to no background blur. But on the other hand I think this camera is made for video projects that require a lot of flexibility in movement for their camera. Now that image quality is so good, the size weight is limiting for some projects, and sony really pushes in the small and light category without sacrificing image quality or performance, and even the mirrorless options of nikon and canon dont really do this (the apsc mirrorles of canon maybe does so)

Now we know, decent in body stabilization and preset focus with near and far mode. Not exactly the vloggers dream, but a great camera if you know how to use it.

What is your thoughts on the Sony RX100 VI? I am considering purchasing it for my vlog. Currently just use an iPhone and am to a point where I want to upgrade but upgrade to something I can use for all my shots, at home tripod, at the gym (bad lighting), and while walking around.
You can open the remote and disable the start stop so it only will focus when pressing.

I think for outdoors content the RX0 II would be good so is on my list. The fact Sony didn't update the X3000 was one reason why I purchased a H7B. I wish they updated the X3000. Down sides of my Sony action cams are the preamps not adjustable and too strong for a mic plus the doors are shit. Broke them on mine.

In smartphone world , sony are well known for good digital stablisation in movie mode for many years , but sadly those do not transfer to mirrorless system

So close yet so far with the RX0ii, just add af-c, a bit of ibis, slightly wider lens, HLG picture profile and it would be amazing. It’s got so much going for it: tiny body yet big 1-inch sensor, flip up screen, mic input, decent colours.
The FDR 3000 is the dogs, thanks to your videos I've only recently discovered it.... Perfect for what I need.
Only complaint is Wi-Fi wrist band screen sucks it keeps loosing connection.
Works great with the Sennheisser radio mic's.
One "issue" with the X3000 is the form factor since the GoPro mount style devices are a dime a dozen. Accessories are much easier to find for those Cube / box action cameras whereas X3000 users generally have to dig deeper and spend more for similar mounting solutions.

I mean, you could always put a wide angle lens on it. That'd help with the focus like you said. And it'd help with the shaky footage too as wider angle helps negate that. It's a bit pricey on top of an already pricey cam but it's 2021 and I'm still eyeballing this cam (for more than just vlogging, to be fair. I already have a vlog setup). Just haven't had the money yet

The problem is that Japan is heirachical.
The most senior people are set to lead decision making. These people can be innovative and see opportunity sometimes, but they often follow the route of what has come, and do minor tinkering or improvements. They are not set to seek input from the younger generations and create what could become.
For example Japanese camera brands are yet to make an enthusiasts ($800-3000) video camera, not in the shape of a stills camera.
So no BOSS, autofocus and wide angle. Why Sony, why?

The perfect vlogging camera is the Canon Vixia Mini X. It has a flippy screen, a tripod foot that slips into the body, stereo mic, dedicated volume control, wide angle less, fits in my pocket, lens cover with a button. I still don't understand why it never caught on. It is discontinued now. :(
No AF-C is really a big fail. RX0ii is useless to bloggers.
Problem is, it was not made for vloggers so that meeting really never was lol. It is a travel camera where you are supposed to film everything but yourself. It has some great specs for just that. What you should be happy about is that they still release it because guess what, the next camera could be a replacer for the sony x3000(which has been beaten by gopro 6 and 7 in a long time).
The wrong Sony department watched this video. They need to get the camcorder department together with the camera sensor and audio jack upgrade department so they can engineer the best features into the little Sony X3000 with the latest and greatest to satisfy the vlogospher and make Stacey Neistat and CC aka VP Kasey happy campers in the videographic world of cooking when you consider they sell like hot cakes, which is a lot better than cold pancakes.
Imagine what they could do with an x4000.

Bigger Sensor,
Wide Angle,
same Amazing Stabilization from the x3000,
Cold Shoe Mount,
Upgraded Mic Preamps, and
Fully Flippy Screen.

They fit optical stabilisation in the fd3000 and they can't in the rxo2?
sensor size :) Smaller the sensor easier to have better stabilization because there is more room for that and bigger sensor need more power for everything.
I have a question that has only occurred to me a few times while watching youtube videos.
When an advertisement pops up during a video, does the youtuber get paid more if the viewer watches the entire video?

They all seem as bad as each other..I got the go pro 7.. Crap audio..got the external brick adapter almost as big as the camera..then added an external battery perfect I thought..no now the audio is a second out with an external battery and is a pain to sync to a remote..thought I would go the Sony route and get the fd 2800 is that better or the same as the 3000 ?
