    Isaac, you make this look so easy. What's the start up cost on the grinder machine & parts? I'm a beginner --that means I haven't done anything but watch videos. Fascinating and I want to learn to do this!! THanks for sharing, calming voice and thanks for sharing.

      Hi Leah. A good place to start looking is Glastar.com . If I remember correctly you could looking somewhere around $5000 for 12 inch flat wheel set up and upright machines. Hope this helps.

    Pretty good video. Thanks Isaac. Could it be achieved by a laser system too? Wondering if someone could help with how to create deep etches (grooves) in a glass - more affordable way, please.

      Unsure about laser, as far as cutting grooves there are wheels for upright tools that are shaped differently, instead if flat they come to a point to be able to cut the grooves you can find in cups and other glass items.

    I am VERY new to glass work. Would you have a suggestion on a grinding wheel that is in the hundreds of dollars not the thousands? Information on this craft is very limited and info on machines for a novice is limited. Would a small gem faceting grinder wheel work?

      Yes, it will work just fine for smaller work. Larger wheels and machines are needed for larger projects and beveled glass as seen in my work. Hope that helps

    A interesting, more modern method. The equipment I restored were made by Lange. 36" wheels, cast iron with silicon carbide drip, sandstone, and vertical cork with pumice, and finally felt with cerium oxide, the last 2 stations vertical

    Hello, I have a once off small 2" piece of oval glass to cut and bevel for a carriage clock. Would this be possible with a belt sander, linisher or even angle grinder? What material is needed on a sanding or grinding disc to do this? Maybe I am overly optimistic?

      I have used welt belt sander to do rough through slight polish for edging glass that was 1inch thick. You may have some luck with that although it is difficult to have a crisp line on the bevel. Typically the roughing wheel for beveling is diamond embedded. For that size you are looking to do the wet belt sander may work out ok. I would not advise using dry belt due to glass dust and the belt heating up too much.

    Can you do this on a sheet of 1/8" glass that needs to be beveled on the long side of 46-3/8"x3.5"?

    • @isaacdsmithstudio6624
      @isaacdsmithstudio6624  3 года назад

      At 1/8" a bevel is possible at much shorter lengths. At the length you are suggesting the glass should be 1/4"

      They vary depending on size. Glastar is a company that I have purchased from and have different types and sizes. They are roughly a couple of thousand for a set up.
