Yeah this has always been my one random annoyance with AOE 2 - Melee units stand still during their "reload time" while ranged units can move during their reload time. This inherently makes ranged OP, which is why infantry are still useless after being buffed 10 times in the past 10 years. This should be the exact opposite, so that melee units can move during their attacks, and archers should all have to pause for a second to reload just before they shoot.
@@Hughzaa9if archers couldn't move while they shoot they'd be weaker than infantry honestly. They're so slow that you'd have no choice but to just stand ground and wait for them to all be trampled by calv or infantry

There needs to be compensatory nerfs because 15 ish knights getting wiped by 10 cav archers is ridiculous. Cool find though! P.S. i'm pretty sure this just utterly breaks the game my guess is that this should also work for melee units, which means if u do it right u might be able to have infinite melee units atking a single wall, and steppe lancers would be broken *again* meanwhile, if this gets normalized, it'd be a massive buff to onagers lmao

The first trick is actually how regular micro should work, usual patrol micro with CA never seemed right to me on DE. Second trick seems cool as well, especially when playing against AI. But I believe that the last two tricks can be banned from tourneys... If these last two gets popular among ranked ladder, people will get rightfully mad at it
This video is insane. I would love it if you could enable virtual keyboard on those kind of micro oriented videos. This way we can see the succession of keys you're pressing to not miss some subtilties

Definitely have to try this. Such smooth kiting! I would always use aggressive stance when kiting rather than stand ground though because of what you demonstrate at 5:35 and because of the attack delay on stand ground.
I used the patrol stack as the British back in conquerors or kings. Having 4 groups of yomen in front of a castle and behind a wall was incredibly useful.
@@gastonpinardi6402 Stacking up melee units. It's called stand ground patrol which makes your engagement much much better. It increases the amount of units that can attack and reduces the amount of units that can get attacked. I'm aware this is done with archers as well. However, with melee units, cavalry especially it looks completely bonkers. Like abusing a game mechanic for pathing in a scummy way to influence a fight. Nothing strategic about it.

I literally started playing AoE2 3 weeks ago and I inherently used this from the get go because I raged about the how my ranged units seems to be 'stuck' between each volley lol

14 knights agains 12 CA. 2 CA died and roughly one more CA worth of hp was lost. Sure it took a long stretch of map, but still
