    I love your advice for making our spaces a personal reflection of our own taste and lifestyle, and making our homes a place for real people to do real life. Please make more videos about how to achieve that personal-to-your-own-family’s function that is also aesthetically appealing.

    Once again, I cannot help but be inspired by your ideas and enthusiasm. I have inherited a home from parents, who I believe collected really cool furnishings, and knowing that it might be a bit dated it has quality and taste. My budget does not allow for a complete re-haul as I make these spaces my own, I have chosen to just move the items around in contemporary ways....in essence I get to re-do their home my way. I am planning to put a French style wooded mural in the entry way to compliment the Henredon provincial case pieces throughout the rest of the home and that can refer to the wooded view in the windows in the dining area beyond. I am keeping the basic layered greige upholstery that still looks new but adding brown leather and plaids for movement. For color impact, red is my choice for this mountain home as fall is just so magnificent in the windows. Thanks for helping me see my vision and providing permission to let "me" into the project. P.S. I love wallpaper too; I plan on a plaid wallpaper for powder room off the entry....

    Eclectic personalization. I love it. I have been doing it for the last 20 years. I'm a 50 year old African American and I grew up hip hop. So I don't have graffiti but I have tons of wood, stone, metals and leather. It's who I am. Marble, wood, leather and a good accent metal never go out of style. Keep the walls softly tinted and go bold with the accessories and you will never go wrong. the only mistake I made design wise was the Tuscan kitchen because that was not who I was.

    I saw this video a few hours after it first came out, and I had to rewatch it again! I was stewing over the jewel tones. I have a quart of Behr’s Tanzanite blue. I’m really considering it for the walls/ceiling of a small bedroom, and using a super soft, vintage, mustard yellow bed spread. Royal purple and gold and a touch of Aqua blue for some accessories, and black trim/doors. I figure if I stick to the jewel tones, I can pull it off! I’m excited! This will be a small but mighty room.
    I was originally going to use Tanzanite in my laundry room. And Le Luxe in that bedroom. Now I’m thinking about switching them and using Le Luxe in the laundry room, instead. Either way, I already HAVE these colors. Time to use them!

    Love this video, Julie! I’m working on my own 514 sf studio condo in an Art Deco building and have been grappling with having to choose between matte/brushed gold, Industrial iron, copper and chrome, given the size of the space, although I love all of them. Your video has helped me realize I can layer multiple finishes if I do so intentionally and keep the entire space “in conversation” with itself. I absolutely adore mixing seemingly disparate styles and elements. For my new home, I’m embracing my boho-glam-rustic-Industrial edgy-modern eclectic self…and I have you to thank! ☺️

      I really like when you show us a designer room and highlight why it's so good. For example, show us a Kelly Wearstler room and point out what she does that makes her the best. Run a series on each of the top designers where you breakdown their style and as a designer tell us what they do that is unique and why this room works. Is it the color combination, is it the scale, is it how they mix patterns. How do they take a large room and make it comfortable or a small room and make it cozy. If you were an art teacher how would you train students eyes to identify good design. That's what I would love to see.

    Hi Julie
    I also love wallpaper ! I agree it has a timeless appeal if it’s the right type. I have more bold but subtle designs on mine. The bedroom has a dark blue background with copper branch motif. It actually enhanced the pine furniture bc of the reddish hue of the branches. The dining room has birds on tropical trees. I still love it and my 19 yo son said “this is the nicest room in the house. Never change it. “🥰🥰🥰 I think the wallpaper adds sophistication to any room. I don’t have any jewel tone elements but I can definitely see it adding as much as wallpaper does. About 3 years ago I changed my den from Navajo white to BM Adobe Dust. I wanted to warm it up bc it’s a north facing room. I did not know I was at the start of a trend. I see these orange cinnamon colors more and more. Eclectic ? I’m on top of that! And I know you are too! Nice work today!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️❤️

    LOVE the quiet luxury, and the sunset hues are nice. The landscape mural I'd like if I lived in a $20 million mansion, but for a normal sized house, no way. I can't stand the tiny print wallpaper; just looking at it makes me feel overwhelmed nervous. Most of the others I'd like to see in someone else's home, but I wouldn't want to live there. Just too much. I need a calm, quiet space, and jewel tones and bold choices are too much for me.

    The sunset thing is fun, I've been doing that for years and the couple years I tried just neutrals (white, black, blue mostly) felt so wrong to me. Currently my main colour palette is brown, beige, butter yellow to amber, rust red to bright red, peach tones, and hints of green for spring. Ive never considered adding those touches of dark midnight blues and now I'm curious to add it in a few small spots, maybe florals or vases, and a velvet throw pillow or something

    Julie what’s your thoughts on bamboo blinds. My home is eclectic with African rugs and some painting from Africa on our vacation. Black brown and off white. My windows are open but I feel I need some privacy. Open unto a park. My furniture are antiques and old woods Quite earthy. I was thinking of taking your advice and maybe painting my interior front door in high gloss but wondering if it’s too modern for my setting. But I use black on some of my walls but they are flat. Please help.

      Wood paneling is timeless if it is made out of real, quality wood.

    Real estate is so hot right now- we can sell an empty home w AI images to suit a buyer's style? Hopefully it means the beginning of eclectic personalisation and the end of fast furniture trends! Is staging "out"?

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  8 месяцев назад

      Staging is never out- high end luxury homes still rely heavily on staging since premium buyers want to see the real thing. I’ve definitely noticed the shift with AI rendered spaces- I’ve been house hunting for the last few years 😅

    What feels quiet understated , quiet luxury will be lazy , boring and bland in no time. Beware . Buy what feels right to you and make it yours. Stay away from too much beige olive brown and rust orange. My tip is buy what lift your spirit up.

    I wish there were a designer who knows materials and health specifically how can I light my home WITHOUT LED BULBS. the elites in power now (as of 2021) are making it illegal to own healthy lightbulbs. We must use the bulbs that are now being engineered to transmit data (it’s at UNIV of Virginia, they call it LiFi). I notice a lot of the crazy people on my street love to decorate with neon LED lights man they can that Mental Asylum look on LOCK. I’m just trying not to make myself one of them by using the wrong bulbs 😆 maybe this is not possible with the new law 😂🤣😩😩😩

    Quiet luxury = $$$$$$$$$$
    Investment pieces = $$$$$$$
    The idea of colour drenching (painting a room entirely) in a bold colour is risky because in 2 years time it will be a dated trend. Also any paint colour outside of the neutral palette tends to be expensive.
    I consider my home interior to be eclectic transitional. I enjoy having unique and sentimental items in my rooms. I enjoy mixing colours, patterns, wood tones and metals within a space - especially my loungeroom.

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  9 месяцев назад

      All of the above may be sourced secondhand, which is what I’ve done to create a space I love with solid-made investment pieces. Just got to get creative with sourcing and stretching your dollar 👍🏻😊
