The most common misconception about AI is what AI companies want you to believe, and that is AI is surpassing human intelligence. Well, it depends on how we define the words ‘surpassing’ and ‘intelligence’. Certainly, AI lacks certain human attributes such as motivation, intention, morality, love, hate, like, dislike, taste, etc. There will be always a gap between AI and human intelligence. China is not too far behind our AI technology, except that they don’t have enough advanced AI chips.

I am an engineer working in many different semiconductor Fabs. Very few want to work in Fabs even in Taiwan such as TSMC. The work hours are very long, the skills are too specific to transfer to other career or even to other Fabs but the compensation is relatively low compared to software, finance and many other career required similar education. It is better to be an electrician. They have a lot more freedom, make good money. I graduated from one of top 5 engineering universities in the US and have an advanced degree. In my industry, most have Phd/Master. IMO, the US could not compete with Asia in cost and talents.
