the only thing you need to realise is that there is no definite answer as to whether Patrick did or didn't kill these people. For myself, I believe no doubt he killed those people and the phone call with his lawyer talking about his lunch with paul fallen could of meant he easily mistaken paul allen for a different guy - a reoccurring theme in the film with everyone being mistaken for someone else.
@@zac1794 For sure! My Brain did think he imagined everything. Just because i thought there area lot of people who may think this way, but don't follow through with the deed.
Finished the book a week ago. Very chic, very hip. The film slightly fails at capturing the grandiosity of the descriptive dining chapters and cuts out a lot of death, but does reference it with props and dialogue. Overall a solid solid book
One of the things I like about this movie is that it was filmed only 9 years after the 1980s ended, which means everyone still had a pretty good idea how to re-create that atmosphere authentically. Filming started on 28th February 1999 and lasted 7 weeks according to Wikipedia.
As I say, Masterpiece of a film, and fits well to celebrate Halloween honestly. With such iconic scenes, soundtrack/music, plot and a legendary cast, especially with Christian Bale, Dafoe, and many others It's truly iconic. Based on the novel, it was a great rendition, and depicts the 80s very brilliantly only with the mind of a Narcissistic psychopath which it was intended too, The film was ahead of it's time, and what a great mention of Phil Collins, and Genesis, glad those legends work made it here to! Amazing how much of an influence this movie had on film, and still actively remembered.
Bruce Wayne is a homicidal maniac like the Joker and could eventually become the Batman Who Laughs, Norman Osborn is a detective, and the Joker isn’t the Joker? What universe or timeline is this? Damn it, Barry!
1980's New York Vibes the whole way through. Christian Bale per usual is phenomenal as Patrick Bateman. The scenes are put together well and for most of the movie you'll stayed glued to the entirety of it all.
*It's in the top 50 movies I've ever seen. The storytelling is terrific. The movie moves on a very fine line. Christian Bale is an excellent choice. That's exactly what I call a fine line. An actor other than Christian Bale could have ruined this movie. Sometimes playing simple is the hardest..*

This movie was meant to be absurd and mess with your mind. But in the end, Im on the side that says he imagined it all. Im sure it’s all been argued before. But I have 5 huge reasons. 1. , when he supposedly tortured those hookers they left and he paid them. Those girls would have gone to the police for that kinda action. I do believe that he had “Rough” sex with them bruising them accidentally which caused them to leave, but he imagined himself torturing them and he imagined their reactions. He actually paid them as they left but there was no torture. 2. The second time he had sex with Christi and the other woman, i think he had “Rough Sex” again and she ran away. The other girl probably liked it and didn’t run. She was high af anyway. So was Bateman. The chainsaw revving up in the “public” hallway and Christi’s screams would have surly woken people up. At that point he wouldn’t have time to dispose of the body if there ever was one. He didn’t kill her. He imagined it. Probably chased her through the hallway cause he was high. He didn’t have a chainsaw and there was no blood on his face. An alternative is they just had a good time and nothing crazy happened and he just imagined that craziness in his head. They just woke up the next morning and went about their separate ways. 3. He also supposedly killed cops. Sorry kiddo, you kill cops, not even the richest man in the world is getting away with that. You will get found out. He imagined that one too, as well as the woman he supposedly shot by the ATM. He probably held the cat against the ATM and put a fake finger gun against its head and she told him to stop. Of course he thought he actually had a gun. He probably in truth just told her to f*** off and threw the cat on the ground. 4. He confessed to all his supposed crimes twice. Then the lawyer he confessed to told him it’s not possible because one of the people he supposedly killed was confirmed to be alive. Some other reasons are, he told his fiancé he had a constant need for homicide. Instead of being concerned with what he just said she just acted like he said nothing of the sort. I think he actually said “it’s over between us” which leads to them breaking up. He had a few other outbursts like this through out the film and no one questioned him. Also, the head he saw in the fridge wasn’t there. He just had sex with that girl, she left and he imagined chopping her head off and putting it in there. He also imagined all the corpses in his house. And he imagined shooting that security guard in the head. Also, when he supposedly tried to kill his secretary with a nail gun, he set it on the ground and it made a loud thud. She didn’t move. Because, he didn’t actually have a nail gun in his hand. Again, he imagined it. He didn’t kill the homeless guy in the alley either and thankfully the dog is still alive. If thats not good enough for you then heres a final reason. If he actually killed 40 people within 6 months, you would see news reports, detectives investigating, and William Dafoe would be questioning him for a hell of a lot more than just one guy who was confirmed to just disappear to London. So here’s what I think of all this. The Movie seemed to drive home the idea that superficial people like Bateman and his friends are so out of touch with reality, that in their loneliness, who knows what is going on in their head. And the unknowns going on in their heads are their perceived realities. But it’s not actual reality. It reminds me of a horror version of fight club if you get my reference. Where Tyler Durden wasn’t real and everything he did was actually the main character. The only difference with American Psycho is he imagined he did terrible things that he never did. He was just out of touch with reality. And by the movies end, were left “Psycho” analyzing the whole thing lol. This movie is great. A wild ride. 9/10.

This movie's a metaphor for actual non-violent behavior corporate psychopaths. The real world ones rarely, if ever, spill blood like Patrick Bateman did (i.e., still metaphorical blood on the carpet in the office). That does not change the fact that corporate ones can be every bit as brutal as, say, the Joker. It's not just corporations either. I'd say ANY setting putting a premium on money, power, sex appeal, image, charm, badassery, etc. is going to have more than their fair share of them.
When I was younger, I was unaware it was a comedy. So I rented it thinking it was a horror movie and was so nervous to watch it. Ended up laughing the whole movie. Ironically, I love horror now, but at the time, I was scared of it.
