Furnishing a new construction home. You're over the main hurdle of building the house, yay!! But it just keeps trickling along - all the furniture, bedding, curtains, rugs, art, accessories and then there’s different seasons and holidays. People spend a lifetime filling a home, so if you are planning to upgrade your house and everything in it in one fell swoop, it’s a lot. Prepare yourself. It’s like you spent 9 months carrying a child, you went through childbirth and you thought that was the hardest part but then you have to raise the child. “Finishing” the house, filling it with everything that makes a house a home is like raising the child. So here’s some parenting advice.
Whether you are buying new or moving in existing furniture, it takes a lot of separate items to complete a house and they all have to somewhat go together. It can be overwhelming, there’s a lot of things to keep track of, think of, purchase and install. Know that and give yourself some grace when it gets overwhelming.
In this video I am going to discuss taking inventory of existing furniture and fixtures that can be reused or upgraded to work in the new home, how to search online, the terms to use, order furniture online that actually works like you hoped it would, how to shop for furniture in person, when to use a furniture showroom and when to have some fun, how to best use your salespeople, when to shop thrift, what to expect throughout the process, how to stay organized, how to remember what you ordered and finally put the whole house together and absolutely love the space you just created. A home that is undeniably you!
