Closest one so far to a ef5 this year. Will probably be the strongest of the year as well. The third week of May produces a lot of record tornados
Nope

it is definitely EF5. It was as strong as greensburg. This tornado could have wiped the entire city off the map like Greensburg did 17 years ago.
They rated it at ef4 with 185mph winds. I thought it looked like f5 damage as well. Was shocked when they did rate it ef4 honestly
My niece lost her home . So sorry for these communities
Just moved to Iowa and i find it exciting to see the skie turn green
Moral of the Story: Do Not Live Where There Are Tornados!
Reed Timmer has amaizing footage of this tornado, it was a beast
strongest tornado in history according to Wikipedia
Deadliest tornado?! I remember a time when the death toll exceeded 200-300 for an EF4. This was before radars were installed and storm spotter programs were formed. We've come a long long way in developing the tools we have today.
Certified Skywarn Storm Spotter
if you were to use your eyes and read you could recognize that its about the deadliest tornado in 2024 so far
@@maumazdang bro that was a little harsh 😂!
@@maumaz four deaths do not count as the deadliest so far. I am old enough to know a time when we didn't have radars, storm spotters and chasers. The death tolls were off the charts. Younger generations do not have a clue what we went through without the modern technology. It was a much saner time that what we have today.
Are you dense? Clearly your mind went into the updraft of a meso and spun around like hail. Because clearly it stated "Deadliest of 2024 so far" Nowhere it says deadliest of all time. No amount of Storm Spotting Certification will replace basic reading comprehension.
They estimate wind speed in this EF4 tornado at 185 mph. But Category 5 hurricanes with that wind speed do not cause as much twisted, crushing damage as this. Could someone explain why tornado damage is more wild than the strongest hurricanes?
Specifically, the low pressure created by the vacuum of the tornado with its helical structure naturally twists with such a force that it implodes or explodes a dwelling because of the pressure difference, all the while swirling about the debris. Because a tornado is such a concentrated energy vs a massive hurricane, think of it like this: the tornado is akin to you twisting and pulling out a stubborn weed, whereas the hurricane may have similar wind speed, it is much more linear, and therefore most structures are not affected in the same manner. Massive change in pressure does odd things.
Exactly why they are studying them in regards to surface winds. It is a huge interest of the storm community I'm sure. Was one of Tim Samaras passions
Thanks for replies!
Yes, like twisting a stubborn weed. ( Like it’s an angry beast)
Also, downright conundrums - like wooden planks driven into concrete (What??) And pavement pulled from roads.
Other interesting thing, the “burning” effect. Previously green grass turned burnt brown ( if left there at all).
@@rossriver75yukon27 yes, the total energy expelled by, let's say the Joplin F5, was that of several atomic bombs, as evidenced by the permanent scar through that town seen even today. The amount of pure energy these things create is difficult to explain in meteorological terms, but it is absolutely massive. With the differences in pressures, the intense cyclical wind speed, all the random debris flying about, it's as though a mile wide blender on high power shreds through neighborhoods, leaving very peculiar examples of its energy. It's quite mesmerizing to see one with the naked eye, the display of raw power.
Yes. Actually, I keenly followed videos about tornadoes up to that time. But watching/ reading about the Joplin tornado made me feel so sick that I left watching tornado news for a few years.
I was watchibg gg id on the nows and i saw rhe iowa dead man walking tornado in real life
