The Truth about News Today Straight From The Newsroom

- This scene from Season 3 Episode 5 of The Newsroom shows exactly what is wrong with today's "news". People only want to hear entertainment instead of actually educating themselves about the world they live in.
This word for word actually happened. Jimmy Kimmel was involved. The girl with the website literally had the same comebacks. I am glad this came on the show.
Shailesh Rana the argument basically boiled down to “take me seriously enough to market this, but don’t take me seriously enough that I have to take any responsibility”.its beyond childish that they expected to get away with defending their product by saying it doesn’t actually work and isn’t reviewed by staff

I see what you did there.
Jimmy Kimmel did this first.
Whoa racist.
A freaking Hattori Hanzo.
"I'm intentionally stripping you of your dignity. By the way, I've managed to do it without lying once." BOOM. Don't f**k with Solan
If only this is how journalists interviewed today. Keep the politicians honest and don't give them an inch to lie.
theres a reason it isn't. they can refuse to sit down for an interview or get up and leave if they want to. this is why journalists keep things soft because if they antagonize their interviewee, they could lose them in real life and not get the story they want. this isnt because they want to, far from it.
The politicians will just go to a more friendly and or partisan owned safe space news organization where they will be treated with kids gloves,
ruclips.net/video/2-avakrRUaU/видео.html
This was in real life - this interview is almost word for word from an interview Jimmy Kimmel did with the editor from Gawker about the Gawker Stalker app back in 2007
that was the reason in the show that they weren't allowed to interview one of the candidates
Now that the rehearsal is over, let's put Mark Zuckerberg in that chair, 🤣🤣🤣.
I'd pay money to see that.

You've mistaken Sloan, for really good writing. Moving on.
@CD Smith That was a cultural reference that you either missed, or didn't get the joke.
@@josephstanski5180 That makes zero sense. Sloan is a character, the product of said good writing. So essentially you're saying "you've mistaken a written character for the writing done for that character."
@@jadefalcon001 Hello straw man, it is sad that even when you are incorrectly reframing the argument you are still wrong. I laughed when I read 'that makes zero sense' and then read your bullshit. You are accusing someone of doing something, while you are doing it in that very same breathe (making no sense).
A more accurate characterization would be: you've mistaken a character for their writer. But of course this is not what you wanted to argue since it is harder and would require nuance.
You are bad at this, and you should feel embarrassed
This show is criminally underrated
This is more of an indictment of Gawker I'd think. There's a great interview like this actually with Jimmy Kimmel, Larry King, and a rep from Gawker.
Jimmy Kimmel's repping for Larry in that interview. Good catch.
Sorkin used some of the rep's actual responses in this scene; specifically, some of the stupider things this guy says.

What a show and what a cast. Absolutely loved this.
Problem is that people believe whatever is put out on the tv without factual clarity! It's too easy and lazy to do otherwise!
@clit_niblr036 trump, and what every other political, celeb, or anyone always tells the truth and nothing but. Clinton lost, when she lost the person who didn't lose wins. How did she lose? Maybe that more vital to fix than why the other person won.
@clit_niblr036 if ur playing a game and loose but win cause ur the best dressed YOU LOST THE GAME!. Would u have also said trump won if he had popular vote but lost by the rules. How stupid do u have to be to campaign for pop vote and not elect college. Jethus I thought she was a bad candidate but not even knowing the voting system.
@clit_niblr036 are you a troll? Im guessing you think that Fox News always lies while CNN and other big media companies always tell the truth?
clit_niblr036 that’s just sore losing no? Were you complaining when Obama won? He seemed to do well enough
People will believe anything that would make them feel better about their own life. And it's much easier to destroy someone else's pedestal than to build up your own. The point is to allow yourself standing taller than the other person, no matter how you achieve that. This is why stories about the made-up misfortunes of celebrities are so addictive. They are the painkillers of the destitute.
She was so savage but spot on with realism.

I love that Mac defended Sloane and let her do the interview this way
Please put this back in the air.
idc what anyone says; this show was ahead of it's time, and the main-stream-media & right wingers couldn't get it. they hated the idea of being called out for being reality-tv-entertainment instead of what they should've been doing; which was reporting the news with integrity. I hope someone, somewhere, re-ignites this masterpiece, given the sh1t show Murikkka has been going through since the Obama-era to Drumpf and the Jan 6th Committee Hearings
it's all a show to grandstand over the other guy. "You are a moron. Let me list the top 10 reasons why". Both parties do that, so there's no chance to open communication. That was quite bipartisan of me, let me end it with. GOP has been worse at this.
It used already-reported events, which made it behind the time. Sorkin laid his left-wing ideology over the production, showing women as abusive hardnuts and men as incompetent wimps. Putting in credible segments like this one here provided the base of the show, allowing "the message" to be associated with solid entertainment. The right-wing DID get it; that's the reason they attacked it.
No, both parties don't do that. Republicans engage in wild innuendo that is rarely backed up with any evidence, whether that R. is a politician like Boebert, MTG, Comer, Gaetz or any other politician, the FOX talking heads or the average Trump follower. What the Democrats do is shows like Jordan Klepper's where he allows those R. to hang themselves with their own stupid comments and ideas and Democrat politicians who take those R. to task in committees where they can 'hang' them with their own stupid talking points/accusations, etc. @@tokyworld
Loved this segment. Leave the celebrities' ALONE and let them live life. Good grief stalkers.
Yes, they are famous and there are obviously down-sides to that but they are also human, they have kids, and they have private lives. Social Media especially makes it way too easy to violate those lives and step over the line.
Priceless ! ! !

Sloane did not come to play 👏🏾
I'm in love.
best new show ever and the only one who told it strait.
This is exactly how All news organizations speak today
Without the intention of it being true
The OP statement is a prime example of how deliberate lies by people like Trump have encouraged people to make unsupported statements like this. While no news organization is perfect, most still try to report the truth. That includes Fox News Division (but not it's commentators).
Ironically, the weakening of the line between news and opinion is mostly a response to what viewers want.
While her point on him being well paid is valid, she does not factor in living factors that go into that. While 50k is enough for a family of four in Toledo Ohio, it is not enough for the NY metro area.
So Sloane sabbath is the reason why this dude formed intelligencia.

What ruined this show after just 3 seasons is the abnormal concentration of [the show's] co-workers' personal, dating, and sex lives instead of .... _you know, what this was supposed to be about in the first place_ --- *the NEWS.* We didn't need to see the 'minute' details of Will and his girlfriend's [sorry, her name escapes me now] sex life and the marriage. Everyone praised how they did the news -- both in front of and behind the cameras .... *the NEWS,* ... not some asinine boy-girl relationships that had nothing to do with the actual NEWS.
As good a writer that Aaron Sorkin was and is, he literally screws everything up with his obsessive "need" to show personal relationships that quite literally have nothing to do with the actual stories [running the West Wing and the News], and also his religiosity that he forces onto his public. Watching *_The West Wing,_* I didn't give a flying fuck that he's a catholic nor anything religious about anyone else ...... *this country was founded on SECULAR IDEALS [ **_"god" isn't mentioned even once in the entirety of our Constitution_** ]* and I certainly didn't like being reminded in so many episodes how religion not only is running this country, *_but is also fucking it up royally._*

I try to explain to my friends why The Newsroom is so highly rated and why they should choose to watch it but I can never quite put my finger on it.
Its like trying to explain to a Pet owner why they should get a Cat. You can say the words but it never does them justice. You have to own one to understand.
