@@MGgamer1209 mid 2000s so called rock music sucked. Bands like puddle of Mudd, Three days Grace, Crossfade, Finger 11, Breaking Benjamin and many more were all awful. It makes me sick to think how far rock has fallen since the 90s. Those shit bands are why we have a huge plummet in the popularity of the genre that we see today. The death started in mid 00s and continues to this day. Pretty sad that horrible and talentless mumble rap is a more popular and better listen than rock is today. All these mean another decade will pass with no great rock music cause kids don't wanna learn guitar, bass, drums cause it's not cool. Rappers like Post Malone are better rock star than all the rock artists combined.
That moment when you get a DUI, and get sponsored by Miller Lite the very next season. Irony.
Then you get suspended for domestic violence, karma.

One thing people have underrated over the years is how awesome of chemistry Kurt had with the #97 team. His Penske performance was a step behind what he did at Roush, and he's been with building teams since (took over Newman's car at SHR, and is now driving for Ganassi which aside from one wonder year with Jamie Mac nine years ago, hasn't had a lot of success this decade).
I will say this, the timing of Kurt getting released from Penske couldn't have been worse. They had just gotten to where they were a weekly winning contender again, and Kurt had come off of 3 straight two-win seasons and Chase appearances. Brad K won the championship in Penske's first year without Kurt, and Logano later joined Penske and has had a lot of wins and a championship of his own.

Did he really sign a contract with Penske that broke his Roush contract? I thought Roush let him go because of the verbal altercation with the police officer in Phoenix
That's what he wants you to think.
They announced at Indy in July (2005 season) that he signed with Penske for 2007, or 2006 if he could find a way out of his 2006 contract at Roush. Ricky Rudd was supposed to drive the blue deuce in '06 if Kurt couldn't find a way to replace Rusty beginning in 2006. Do a little research guys ;)

Kurt had so much success, so early. It was too much too soon. Now I would love to see this grumpy old vet compete for a championship.

Bad Seasons Suggestion: Jeremy Mayfield (2000). Two wins which did look promising, but an injury at Indianapolis + a string of six straight DNF's with Penske-Kranefuss + 11 DNF's at the year's end. Fourth-most laps lead the entire season, but terrible luck leading to a bad 24th place points season.
Penske wasn't in the right direction when Rusty Wallace called it quits. Rusty only won once in his last 4 years, and yeah, he was at the tail end of his career, but he made the Chase in his last year. He still had SOME left in the tank, but the team wasn't as good as they were in the early to mid 90's.
Kurt was younger and although he was winning every year, the #2 was still behind the teams that were contending every week. Penske didn't help matters by making questionable hires like Sam Hornish and David Stremme (Brad Keselowski had to go through the same thing as Kurt and rebuild the #12 team after Stremme's presence probably destroyed that car's team morale). But Kurt did keep working with the team behind the scenes to get them back to contending again, even if he did lose his temper on the radio. Kurt's efforts behind the scenes helped, as from 2009 - 2011 he won at least twice and made the Chase all of those years.
Kurt Busch has a habit of taking backmarker and mid-field teams and making them better the longer he's with them. Penske, Finch (though there was no real saving that organization), Furniture Row, and in his last year with Haas he took Danica's old equipment and made that team a serious dark horse in the championship while Amirola wasted away in the equipment that Kurt had the years prior. Now we're seeing the same thing with Ganassi, which had been wasting away in prior years despite Larson's talent.
He just had awful luck and a lot of crashes that season. 2009 he was amazing.
2008 was just as bad for him, if not worse.

He had a bad 2006 season, but it's not the worst one he's ever had. 2001 & 2012 were his worst ones ever. The only positive about his first year at Penske was winning 6 poles & winning a race at Bristol along with a couple of Xfinity wins, one of them in his debut.
Good lord. I know he was immature, but this car was awful that year. Bad season for Penske in general, not just Kurt.

His Toyota had virtually no horsepower to qualify.

Weirdly Enough, Once Kurt decides he's done with NASCAR, since he's still good friends with Roger Penske and Chip Gannasi I could see him racing IndyCars, I know he did the "Double Duty" back in 2014, and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he wants to race IndyCars...
Sadly, Kurt Busch didn’t get to retire on his own terms.
