  • A much better "full uninterrupted" recording of King Henry VII's Lady Chapel, within Westminster Abbey. Recorded on Wednesday 15th March 2023. Henry VII & his Tudor Dynasty "were new upon the throne of England" when the building of this Lady Chapel, was begun. Henry VII was "notorious for being a mean /tight fisted man." So, it much have come as a very great shock, when the notoriously parsimonious King "lashed out lavishly, on this beautiful Chapel." There were 3 good reasons for doing it = (a) To show the Kings Piety & thanks to God "for his victory at Bosworth Field" (b) to show the wealth - power - & might "of this new King, to his people (c) more practically speaking "Henry intended right from day 1, for this Chapel to house the Royal vault, in which he rests with his wife Elizabeth of York." + a later addition to the vault = King James I of England "Great Great Grendson of Henry VII & Elizabeth of York." So, you have the first ruling Tudor King + his wife Elizabeth of York "laid next to the first Stuart King to rule England = their own 2x Great Grandson, who accession meant the end of a Tudor on the throne of England." You really have to wonder "how Henry VII & Elizabeth of York, might feel about James I sharing their vault.
In this episode = we focus on the beautiful Lady Chapel itself. Which houses The very regal monument to King Henry VII & Elizabeth of York + many other fine tombs & monuments. Some of our past monarchs "only have their names, simply marked upon a tile on the floor." But, you'd be surprised at what lays beneath "which we'll cover, in another video, soon."
The architecture of The Lady Chapel, speaks for itself, & is just breath-taking!! The Chapel is also the religious home to The Knights of the Bath. A true feast for the eyes + so filled with fascinating history 😊👌.
Thanks for watching = Hope you all enjoyed ✌️

There are so many secrets that
got buried with past Royals as
    they sleep.

How long did it take for these artists to create these magnificent memorials after the Royal deaths?

Hey Nina. Some were sculpted & put up fairly quickly, after the persons death! Whereas others "like Queen Elizabeth I's = was put up 3 years after her death" & the Princes in the Tower "died/murdered in the 1480s & discovered in the 1670s, & finally given a monument then." ✌️

Are there actual graves buried underneath the floors?

Hi Nina. Yes, the bodies are either directly under the memorials = or interred nearby, in one of the Abbey's many vaults/crypts ✌️

So, Oliver Cromwell is buried here. He is responsible for my ancestor Sir Arthur Capell's death!

Hi Nina. He was buried there = when King Charles II came back as Kong "dead or alive, he wanted revenge on his father's murderers." So, a few years agree his death & burial, Cromwell was exhumed, & his body put on trial, then hunger & quartered afterwards. I'm no fan of Cromwell tbh. Was he? Oliver & Charles I & the civil war,, were responsible for a lot of deaths ✌️

@chrissmith5310 Hi there. I'm no fan of Cromwell = So definitely would have been on the royalist side!! Yeah, & he hypothetically made himself "King in all but name." + what type of monster "send his Irish enemies, to Jamacia as white slaves" & banned Christmas! As you can see = I'm not fond of old Noll, as they called Oliver Cromwell... ✌️
