Since Monday, the Mets have released three players who were late season 40-man roster additions. The three, reserve infielders Eddy Alvarez, Pablo Reyes and catcher Joe Hudson were picked up to support the Mets late-inning defense and provide roster depth. Of the three, Alvarez was on the field for the Mets when the team clinched a spot in the wild card round in Atlanta with a rollercoaster win over the Braves in the first game of a postseason required DH.
For the organization to be run in the way that Steve and David want, there needs to be a GM in place. David will hire somebody that shares his same philosophy on running a team. He needs to be able to manage the big picture from top to bottom. Im sure he will be involved in the majority of the decisions made by his GM. We're in good hands, I trust that he will hire the right guy. He made the right moves all year long so I trust the process
Pete is the No. 1 rated first baseman in MLB's free agent market. He has earned $44m while playing for the Mets and Sportac projects his market value and a likely contract of 6 years at $29m per year with his total salary costing more than $174m to a team that signs him. The Mets could clearly afford that number and still comfortably bid on Soto while adding fresh arms to the rotation and bullpen. Unlike Soto who is said to totally oppose it, If Pete were to defer salary as part of a multiyear deal that would go further to solidify his contract future with any signing club. Would the Mets or Yankees make QO's to their stars just to protect and a certain return on their investment? Neither will be accepted, but draft pick compensation would help dampen a major FA player loss.
Good morning Ryan -if you were a betting man and laid odds on a decision, such as signing Peter Alonso to an extended deal, what would you set the percentages of that occurring at this time?
I agree… I will never understand Met fans that’s always say a subway World Series would be great. That would mean the Yankees had a good season which I never enjoy seeing lol.
@@garyplante6429 I live in NJ and have deal with obnoxious Yankees fans rubbing our elimination in our faces. There is no scenario where i would want the Yankees to win and have to hear the most arrogant fans in sports talk shit.
Pete should get 6 years @ 110-120% premium to the $151 million 6 yr extension the SF Giants gave to Chapman. Similar ages, batting averages and OPS, but Pete has more HRs and RBIs year-to-year, hence my 110-120% estimation. Plus, Scott Boras is agent to both. I think Pete's deal gets done early, as in before year-end, which frees Stearns to focus on other personnel moves and frees Boras to focus on Soto.
@@philipa902 Well, .. he is an elite defender at his position. I would not call 3b a "premium position," but he should get credit for his defense. That said, Pete is a much more prodigious HR hitter than Chapman over their careers. Over the last 4 seasons, Alonso has hit 59 more HRs. That is not inconsequential. And it counts for a lot when comparing a corner infielder to a corner infielder. Alonso absolutely should get a better contract than Chapman. The question is: how much more? I think 6 years for 185 mil makes sense. But I'm not sure Pete would accept it or if Stearns would offer it. I guess we'll see.
Pete can play every day, and is literally bulletproof. Even if he gets hurt, he's the only player I know of that actually comes back early from injuries. His defense isn't a liability, and is getting better every year. His problem is situational hitting, and constant chasing out of the strike zone. Even in his off years, he still hits 30+ home runs. He would benefit greatly from a really good hitting coach to fix his head.....that's where his real problem is. Mark Vientos was a similar hitter, and worked hard in the offseason to change his approach at the plate. Now he's a threat with runners on. Pete should do whatever he did.
@@madwax1360 "Literally" being bulletproof would mean that a person factually cannot be harmed by bullets. Sorry, friend, but ... Pete is not "literally" bulletproof. He's, perhaps, metaphorically "bulletproof." But I'm pretty sure an actual bullet would harm him.
Idk if anyone will back me on this but....pete could have talked more about being open to leaving. That could've got him more $. But he has been clear and loyal and said he wants to return
Could not agree more. Pete wants to come back, and I think that is why he will. Just needs the market to tell him what his worth is. And as long as no one goes crazy, he will be a Met.
Mauricio is slow in recovery?!! Thats odd. Hes in his 20s and relatively healthy id think. I liked him coming in this spring trying to get 3rd. He hits the ball hard which is one reason i liked him. Its just strange he isnt healing up . Im no Dr tho. I really want to see more of acuna. Maybe platooning tween 2nd and outfield but i want to see him in the line up and see his athletic ability in the field. He even had some homers which i believe wasn't considered his strength. All that said i loved this season so much. Such great come backs. But when playing a team like LA what could you really expect with maton protecting the game for us? The LA line up was going to get to him at some point. Heres to a great off season, LGM
Acuña has power. I project him to hit 15 power season. His issue is strikeouts and free swinger. He doesn’t see a lot of pitches and doesn’t take walks. But I think he’ll improve for certain
Probably. It would be really tough to trade for a generational player and then lose him after a year, even if he does help you win a World Series. It’ll be tough for them to see him walk regardless. They’ll be very aggressive.
It’ll be a massive contract for sure. If that’s the case, it likely becomes a two-team race with the Mets and Yankees like we all thought. And I don’t think anybody is going to outbid Steve Cohen.
I love how people say he’s not doing this or that Did you talk to him? Talk to Boras? You know what he’s really after? You have no idea what he’s going to do.
