  • This is an interview with former All American linebacker and my all-time favorite Oklahoma Sooner Brian Bosworth from the Oklahoma Football Legends reunion which was taped in 2003. The Boz discusses everything from his recruiting story out of high school, his playing days at OU, to his wild antics on and off the field which he apologizes for how he conducted himself.

The thing I love about OU and the state of Oklahoma is that everyone is so welcoming and respectful. When Brian started getting choked up when he was apologizing and the others said “hey man, it’s all good. We’ve all been there too.”, I got choked up too.

Up until recently, I had only the vaguest idea who Bossworth is / was. Knew he played college / pro, more recently in films. With all the attention so many years after his playing days, taking a closer look. Apparently a cultural phenom, as well as athletic role model. Thank God he didn't pierced and tattooed like Rodman.

Ive been a fan of the Boz persona since I was 8 years old, and just today after watching the last minute of this at age of 42 I became a fan of the man Brian Bosworth, it takes one hell of a man to admit when he feels he was wrong, not just shoulder the blame but admit it and apologize for it. That is a hell of a man.

God bless you Mr Bosworth. That was a long time ago man. It's not where you're from, but where you're at and where you're going that matter. You're a real man now, taking care of business where it matters most (family) and you're still the meanest OU linebacker to step on the field. Much love from Seattle.

True that dude. Brian Bosworth even hates it nowadays when people call him Boz. He was just a kid then and there are multiple college athletes nowadays who are even worse.

Several years ago when my son played football he was switched to linebacker. I was showing him RUclips clips of great linebackers. When I was showing him clips of Boz at OU we kept having to replay all the plays to see where Boz was coming from. He just comes out of nowhere and makes the play with lightning speed. Fun to watch.

      both men were not
      carrying equal forward
      speed and momentum.

Why would a person from Delaware grow up to be a SOONERS FAN ? Well please let me tell you in 2 words ... THE BOZ !! Loved you then , love you now . Best player I ever saw and if you were to open a Webster's Dictionary and looked up the word DOMINATION in college, #44 in OU RED is all you need to see . As far as mistakes WE ALL have made them and mistakes that are far worse then this man did as a early 20's year old who has admitted his wrongs and said sorry to the ones he hurt . last he has done alot of good . Thanks BOZ for everything I loved about you that took this kid from the tiny east coast and planted him in the Big 12 smack down in Norman OK wearing Red till this day !!

When you watch Brian’s highlights at OK he was obviously one of the best ever.. In contrast you could tell when he was on the NFL that the passion was gone and it the game wasn’t in his heart anymore.. He could’ve been just as great in the NFL but the motivation died when he left his Ok family..That is why I enjoy the college game so much more as they play with so much passion every week.. the NFL puts me to sleep..

Brian may have made some mistakes I'm not going to judge you on that I will say he was one hell of a linebacker it was fast and he could hit and he was a lot of fun to watch and I did every game he played. Stood behind his beliefs like when he tested positive for drugs and then retested and came out negative, he may have been a little extreme with his protest methods. He was never a problem other than just trying to grow up in his way. God bless him.

Admire Boz for saying this. I must correct Coach Switzerland though. Boz was arrested when he was a redshirt with 3 other OU players. It probably isn’t on his record, because the DA and the police chief swept it under the rug. He and 3 other team mates tried to buy merchandise with a stolen credit card. They were arrested and transported to jail and coach Switzerland himself came and picked them up. The whole case disappeared from the records.
One of the other players was a good player too. Paul Migliazo. Can’t remember how to spell his last name. I forget the other two players names.

Dude he had injuries that ended his career. That added with one stupid play where Bo Jackson "ran him over" (and Boz still made the tackle and Bo got 1 extra yard versus the 5 he would have got off anyone else) gave him a bad rep. Had he not been injured he would have had a very solid career.

@@nothx962 - Exactly. If that had been a 3rd and 3 at the 50 yard line, they would have been punting. Back then Bo got all the Nike push. Every little thing he did was great, even when it was mundane. Bo's running full speed. Bosworth is standing there at the 1 yard line. Of course there's not going to be a sudden stop, but because Boz was an anti hero and Bo a Nike hero, everyone rambled on about what a domination it was.
