    That awkward moment when a 90 HP Sectopod appears and you don't even have mag weapons.
    That's XCOM baby.

    • @FIamestalker
      @FIamestalker 8 лет назад +17

      You're ment to fight him without Mag weapons, and it is easily doable (on commander atleast). All you need is a soldier with shredding, suppression and a Combat Protocol Specialist ,preferably with Haywire aswell, to assist Shen when needed.
      What I do is when the fight starts I immediately frostbomb him, then everyone that still has a grenade throws it for shredding while the SPARK fires shots at him from the highground in Overdrive shredding him even more. after the frost wears of keep him suppressed, he rarely moves if he has vision of multiple targets and usually takes the suppressioned shots rather than moving away so he misses most of the time. When the Re-enforcing mechs come in have Shen Haywire one immediately, then use the Derelict mech to keep him suppressed and as a distraction so your grenadier can join the shooting. You can often grind him down relatively safely this way as long as you can keep the number of enemy mechs manageable with Shen's (and your specialist's) abilities.

    • @andyhou7442
      @andyhou7442 8 лет назад +3

      Never said that it was impossible, I did it on Commander Ironman with only one casualty on my first try. Didn't even have suppression or combat protocol that time. It's just the idea of fighting a Sectopod with conventional gear (or just plated armor) is somewhat daunting in a vacuum.
      I mean, if I saw a Sectopod before I got lasers in XCOM EU, I'd just evac. Unless my team was entirely Gunners with HEAT ammo...

      Well, from my experience, the Julius Sectopod seams to do less damage, and has worse accuracy. So much for "effective design" The massed produced Sectopod is way better. (Though the original model, especially in Enemy Within, is the more superior Sectopod)

    1. Oh, the final boss is a sectopod... I have conventional weapons...
    2. Get the boss down to half health, Spark goes down to 1 health
    3. Notices that the generators are explosive objects.
    4. Baits sectopod onto generator.

      For me it was: sectopod moves near generator as first move, shen uses damage hack, all armor gets shreded by heavy and frags, spark attacks generator wich explodes, moar damage, sniper set up in central tower. secto moves into the tower, destroying al the roof and attacks the sniper which is now floating on nothing point blank, sniper dodges 2 times, mecs arrive. shen hacks mec, other mec gets destroyed by team, more damage to secto. secto moves near second generator, attacks sniper twice, misses, more mecs arrive. hacked mec sent to self destruct near secto and generator, moar damage, last shot was from the heroic sniper. RNG was on my side

      Hah. I did kind of get that huge pit when Julian came crashing out of that building in his little toy. I was like, "how many lines of hitpoint bars does that damn thing have?!" But the satisfaction of shutting that mouthy AI up made the painful battle totally worth it.

    • @Luke_Danger
      @Luke_Danger 7 лет назад +1

      All you really need is Mag Weapons to pull it off as long as you can hammer it home, plus you kinda want to so you can use the SPARK in primary combat since it falls behind the curve fast. That, and use Lily to hack stuff; if you can get the second hack on Julian with Lily while there's a bunch of MECs on the field you'll suddenly have a lot of firepower. Of course, if it doesn't work, Julian gets even tougher...

    • @mannofdober873
      @mannofdober873 7 лет назад +3

      Don't even need Mag Weapons. Just shredder. Lots of shredder.

      +Steel Talons Commander Armadillo
      I heard that.
      On one of my Ironman playthroughs, I went for this mission with mag-weapons only, no predator armour. But I got cocky and lost my assault early on. I pushed on, lost another trooper during the 2nd level. Things were looking bad, but I was sure I could still beat Julian. Aaaand I failed the hack, Julian kicked our asses. Ironman mode lets you re-do the same level, but the game determined I was always going to fail the hack. Ended up having to abandon that playthrough. Pity, it started off pretty well.

Now if only I could find a way to make him immune to stuns and other crowd controls, or to give him either Prime Reactions or Ruler Reactions...

      Because Sectopod has more primitive computing systems, despite having more powerful weaponry. Plus, he can't get Sectopod out of the facility, as it's placed on the roof and too big for elevators.

    Here is what I would do to make Julian more of a boss fight. 1: Increase his health to 550. 2: Give him at least 25 armor points. 3: Access to ruler reactions. 4: Increase his damage output to 11-13 damage. 5: Give him an ability called STOMP STOMP STOMP! Where he crushes your solider with his foot, instantly killing them. (He can only do this once per encounter.) So for the whole mission he can only do it once.

    • @jensenflint-persaud7951
      @jensenflint-persaud7951 Год назад +1

      6. Your less likely to hit him as he will have higher dodge and every ruler reaction he summons two mechs which move of their platform. One mech after the movement will suppress one of your soliders most likely the one who has moved the furthest foward. The other will activate prime self destruct after moving. It's more likely that it'll move 'round the corner where your soliders don't have line of sight, then on ALIEN ACTIVITY, it will move toward your soliders and self destruct. 7. Every ruler reaction a turret will appear and instantly target one of your soliders that it has line of sight on.
