      Freddie left his estate to a friend of his and she kept everything stored for 30 years. She finally decided to auction it all off. The auction made $50 million. If you had that much you could have bought the stuff and opened a museum yourself. No one else was interested and what would be the point of just keeping it all stored away forever? Not everyone gets to have a museum.

    After hearing all the disclaimers in the auctioneer's opening statement, it sounds like the actuality of owning any of FM things also comes with a legal headache --- thrown in for free....
    depending on what one wants to use it for....
    But re Brian, I really believe his angst over this auction comes from his heart and its his gut reaction to seeing a loved ones things-- things he knew well that are all thats left of his friend. Things that are now being dispersed to who knows where. Nevermind EJ charity, nevermind he probably hasn't been to Garden Lodge since before Freddie died. I really believe his expressions of objection are the kind one feels when we have to deal with a another sudden loss. 💔❤️❤️❤️

    • @Motown-1966
      @Motown-1966 Год назад +3

      Well Dr. Sir. Bri has one of Freddie’s touring grand pianos so there’s that.
      That disclaimer Sotheby’s stated at the front of the auction is to cover their azzes. Queen Productions, LTD are in a tough position to dictate what new owners can/can’t do with Queen related memorabilia Freddie owned outright and Willed away. If he didn’t have the right to do so, they would’ve came after Mary Austin a long time ago to either buy back those things or reclaim them in High Court.
      I don’t see how after nearly 32 yrs after Freddie’s demise & Mary inheriting his things can Queen Productions, LTD Make any claims on those items. Outside of ppl maybe allowing Queen memorabilia to be used commercially like in movies or commercials, I can’t see how Queen Productions, LTD can stop them from charging entry fees to look at those things.
      Would be interesting to see then try & stop any new owner in High Court.

      @ Karen, It’s got nothing to do with Brian, what happens to Freddie Mercury’s possessions. The man has enough money, he is gutted because Freddie entrusted his possessions and house to Mary, and not him or ( Queen the band ) Mary showed Freddie real love before he was famous, paid their rent in London when he was skint. Brian May will never match Freddie’s talent, and he has never come to terms with his nose being put out of joint

    • @Motown-1966

      Greetings @@marta70423 ! Freddie did not want his home to become a museum for his possessions. He wanted Mary to rise her boys & make Garden Lodge a home. She did just that as Richard is in his upper 30's & Jaime's in his lower to mid 30's.
      It hasn't been exactly roses living at Garden Lodge< what with all of the fans invading their privacy there these last 32 yrs there.
      Mary can do what she'd wanted with the home and it's contents as they were gifted to her outright by Freddie (who's been dean & gone now for just over 32 years). Mary's in her 70's and she stated she wanted to get her affairs together. I infer that to mean she wanted to be the one to handle off loading her belongings as I'm sure her sons likely want nothing to do with Freddie's things. So she'd auctioned off the things she no longer wants and will distribute the inheritances prior to her dying. Freddie provided for those boys as a Godfather (to Richard who he actually met & knew); Jaime would've been his God Child had he'd lived. Mary desperately wanted children with Freddie, but he just didn't want children (or knew he couldn't have them suspecting he might be infected with HIV). Freddie provided for Mary as if she was his widow and as such, Mary is entitled to do with her inherence as she'd pleased.
      Lastly, Mary also know just how much Freddie enjoyed the auction houses and had acquired many of those things there & at Christy's. She feels (as many of us fans who are in the know) that Freddie would get a kick out of the auction & would've been thrilled to see what some of those things fetched.

    I think Mary has done a wonderful thing....all the things from Freddie's past is now being shown to us one by one....a lot of people feel there should have been a museum, but Mary knew that Freddie didn't want his 'beautiful things' to be in a museum - and this is a wonderful way to showcase the beautiful and complex man that Freddie was. Kudos to Mary who kept these things for so very long. It must be a very bittersweet event for her. Freddie loved her and so should we all. Although seeing this brings a tear to my eyes, it also reminds me of how honored Freddie still is - a whole new generation of fans is listening to his music - his fans the most important people in his life....I hope that Freddie is smiling and saying to Mary - thank you my love - thank you for honoring my wishes. Freddie - to me you're hear - every time I hear a song by you - you live in my heart.

      Trudi Mercury well said and explained. This exhibition in Sotheby in London has given a tiny portion of Freddie Mercury fans a chance to view Mary's inheritance from Freddie's WILL and remember and celebrate Freddie again...
      .
      Mary is getting old now and has to settle/process her property for her family and charities and for whatever health reasons while she is alive and can still do so.
      This auction video has given millions of fans all over the world a chance to remember Freddie. To smile, laugh, cry, be angry, to mourn and remember the good times and bad times we all had when we listened to his music in the past/present.
      Yes people all over the world watching this video. Mary has to honour the probate WILL Freddie left Mary by not creating a museum after Freddie died in early 90s.
      Mary waa respectful, tolerant of fans leaving tributes on wall and door (graffitied/criminal damage it) outside Garden Lodge. And turn it into an art piece of fans' memories created 30 ++ years ago and now worth £500K... WOW.
      IT REMINDED ME OF BASQUIAT'S OIL PAINTINGS. THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW BASQUIAT, HE WAS A BLACK NEW YORK GRAFFITI ARTIST, INSPIRED BY PICASSO AND MIRO AND BEST FRIEND OF YOUNG UNKNOWN ARTIST MADONNA IN EARLY 80S.
      BASQUIAT DIED IN HIS 20S FROM HEROIN OVERDOSE..
      New Owners can always get together and create an exhibition as they are not completely legally bound to Freddie's Will and Sotheby's terms and conditions of this auction.
      p.s am typing without my glasses so will edit and correct typos later...

The words of Love Of My Life started at 50,000 then someone in the room doubled the offer to 100,000. It kept rising until it got to 200,000. The poor bidder in the room gave it one more try at 205,000 and bloody well got them. Well done to him. Cant wait for the next auction.❤❤❤

    I have an issue with people who are moaning at wrong address.
    1.) Freddie gave it Mary. It was Mary´s property and noone from us or anyone else has a right to say "you shouůd do this with your property and you should not do this with your property, because if you do, you are greedy...." She is not greedy, she did with her property, what she considered best for her family and her future (she kept and took care about these things for 3 decades!).
    2.) I agree that there are major items which are not only part of Freddie Mercury legacy, but they are huge part of Queen legacy. But you should ask this question.... whose job is it to protect and keep Queen legacy? Is it a job of Mary Austin or her kids? Of course not. It is job of Queen..... And I mean Queen as music industry company. It was their job to get these things into Queen archive..... They should have made an agreement with Mary about selection of things like song lyrics, piano, Magic tour crown etc. - and make a contractual agreement and BUY it for Queen archives basically for whatever price she would ask for. It should have been done out ot auction and prior to the auction. I considered BM´s statements about auction as hypocrisy, because it was THEIR job to protect Queen legacy and keep main pieces of this auction together.
    3.) we dont know what are plans of new owners. Maybe they will make them available to see for fans in future. Let´s hope.... those items are way too expensive to mold somewhere in basement of residence. :)

    • @americandevo
      @americandevo Год назад +1

      #1. You are correct, Freddie bequeathed his estate to his best friend Mary. I was most bothered by Brian May's disparaging words towards Mary Austin. I think he's still butt hurt that Freddie didn't leave his royalties to the 3 band members.
      #2 : Also correct. There are 3 surviving members of Queen and protecting the legacy of the band is their responsibility. If certain things were so important to them they had the opportunity to buy them. I personally don't consider Freddie's personal piano, purchased by him and kept in his home to be an item that represents the band. The same goes for Freddie's personal notes, lyrics or stage costumes.
      #3. There are too many people who suffer from serious class envy and pure jealousy. They say horrible, ugly, nasty insulting things about those who were able to purchase items from Sotheby's "Freddie Mercury Auction". I would like to remind them that FREDDIE HIMSELF fell into the category of "wealthy" as his collection shows, the man had taste, style and MONEY.

    • @americandevo
      @americandevo Год назад +2

      I was able to purchase an item (Spinach Jade cup) from the auction and while I don't feel obligated to somehow display it in a way available for viewing by Freddie's fans I guarantee you it will not be stored away in my basement! 😊
      Also, anyone who would throw shade my way for being able to afford something from Freddie's collection needs to know: I was not born rich, I left home at 18 with NOTHING, never went to college, worked my ass off all my life, never lived beyond my means or used credit of any kind and SAVED MY MONEY.

      You are very very very wrong, because memoriabilias can be treasured by FM and Queen fans who successfully won bid in this auction. END OFF....
      Freddie said in his WILL to Mary, family and business colleagues (Queen co. and current band members) whom he gave his estate to, that no museum be made by beneficiaries.
      a) Mary and other family members honoured Freddie's wishes.
      b) Band members AM NOT SURE IF they current band members broke Freddie's WILL and added their tangible inheritance to the museum currrent members created in Canada after Freddie died.
      NEW OWNERS are not beneficiaries to Freddie's Will so can get together and create a public exhibition.....

      Agreed…that door was defaced by grieving fans so it would be fitting to get displayed at the Queen Studio museum in Montreux…but then again, only Queen related bands memorabilia things are there. Maybe the FM museum located in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

    Я плачу. На это без боли смотрпть невозможно. Если бы он был похоронен в гробу, он 100 раз перевернулся бы в нем. Как так можно? Вот то, что нуно знать о любви и преданности мери остин к меркьюри. Мало она поимела от фредди? И ей все мало, решила и здесь поиметь выгоду, продавая с молотка его память, все то, к чему прикосалась его рука. Не могу на это смотреть.я плачу, поачу, плачу. И думаю, что не одна я.
