Loving the issues so far. Johnson is taking the best elements of a lot of the Transformers storyline and making something that's both nostalgically familiar, but fresh at the same time. He takes a page out of the Beast Wars series, and just decides to focus on a very narrow number of characters, which gives each of them time to breathe. A side note, after seeing Spike turn into angst-filled ragaholic in the IDW comics, it's great to see another interpretation that emphasizes the character's heart and empathy.
This series is everything I've wanted to see from transformers. Take the characters straight from the 80s cartoon, but tell it in a more mature and dark tone. This is the most genuine optimus we've gotten since the original series and I love how he's a perfect counter to a much more bloodthirsty starscream. Despite how dark the series does get though, there is a good amount of emotion and wholesome moments that remind of the classic series.
