Pretty good argument for 1972 here. Lots of examples of the first order of 80 SD40-2 shown, built early in that year and still pretty clean. Didn't see any newer examples from '73, the first with We Can Handle It on the cab side.
Around that time, Union Pacific had been tinkering with various methods to move long and heavy freight trains up various grades in the Western United States with as much efficiency and swiftness as possible.
Wow, I kinda can’t believe I’m at the end of Harris’ silent Super 8 films! It’s not entirely over of course. I’m surprised a few U50Cs appeared in this one.
@@asherpate8 Oh, you found another one I didn't complete. I looked back at part 2 and it is Rio Grande and Rio Grande Zephyr with scenes that arethe same as in many other of Harris videos. There's nothing new or interesting so I don't think I'll do that until I've finished the sound videos.
@@asherpate8 As I explained in my introduction above, #119 is the last one of the silent film. I will now move on to the sound films but I will be numbering them differently. The first one will be called Harris Sound film 01. It will be coming soon.
Thanks again Lee! I think you are right about this being the early 70's just based on the type of equipment. Did you notice there was even a shot of 8444? (SP!)
Yes, I noticed the 8444! That was fun. I don't know how 119 got out of sequence but it makes a good bookend to the whole collection of silent films. There's also some WP as well. I like the rainbow Amtrak with the E9's.
I first thought that 118 was the last, but now I know it wasn’t. I sure have lots of footage to look at when I get to them! I also look forward to the live sound reels to follow.
Thanks Alik. Yes we're nearing the end of the collection. The next 11 sound films should go fast since I'll be doing a minimum of editing and adding titles.

Classic railroading at its finest. Thank you, Lee, for all your hard work in efforts in sharing these for all to enjoy!
Thank you so much for the compliment. I'm glad you've enjoyed these videos. I only wish there were more.
Thanks for all your hard work Lee. This has to be one of my favorites so far. 😊
Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you really enjoyed this one.
He evens films 4WP U30B’s run through.
Yes, rare lashes for sure.

Yes, good observations. Thanks.
Awesome!
Are those Alco engines on the Utah Rail segment? They sound really strange. Definitely four-stroke.
Yes, those are ALCO RDS

You have certainly been thorough viewer. Thanks for taking all that time to go through them all.
I was expecting Harris Film 119 to have a new camera and made in either 1983 or 1984. But it still has the old camera? I didn't expect that.
Yes it surprised me that I didn't have it numbered correctly. Oh well, Its interesting to look back one more time to the early 1970's.
@@LeeWitten Okay. Can you do Harris Film 087 part 2 before or after doing the 11 films with sounds?

Picking up orders now that's cool what did they call that the order stick?..
Yes, I guess its just called the train order stick. I like that film showing the old technique.

Do they still use pole line in Wyoming now
That was back in the early 70's, Everything is computerized now.
@@LeeWitten they have taken most poles down since putting in New signals some places still there
@@dm6966 Oh OK thanks.
Lots of SD45's and GP30's.
Yes, neat to see those. B units also.
