@flaze_0 No, that's not the point. If you watch the Kanye documentary you will see exactly Timbaland telling Kanye about not having to put compression on the drums.
Yea but there’s more to it when u look at the drum track for Kanye’s original the waves are all around the same height when that’s why it sounds muddy in Timbos u see more space in between I think that has a lot to do with it as well u can actually hear each drum separately where on Kanye’s it just sounds like a bunch of drums playing at once
Assuming its not just a lower quality mix from the Ye one. It sounds like he did heavy individual compression on each drum track. Probably a soft group compression like 4:1 3:1 for the drum group and then really scultping that kick between 100 - 600 so that the lower mid of the kick doesnt occupy so much space. Probably taking a bit of 800 -2k out that long tail snare. Thats what my ears hear but im open to suggestions
I really can't tell the difference, besides the fact that the leak sounds like its recorded at a lower sound quality! What am I missing? The video of them working together doesn't exactly make it clear to me, either. Of course, I know Timbo is a legend.
While it may be low quality a lot of what you're hearing was the actual problem, it was super muddy. The kick and 808 clashing so much that the kick got buried. Kanye said when he heard the original in the club, he wasn’t getting that punch from the kick he was after. That’s why Timbaland was brought in to bring the kick back.
@@TreeLibrary he went to pharell and some other producer first who didnt get it right. then he went to timbaland for an 1 hour session. He fixed it in 10 minutes and bragged the other 50 minutes about how he is the only one who could have done it.
@@MrKeenuni think the biggest thing was that there wasn’t much high end frequencies before timbaland which caused all the muddiness. even if the vision is to have a lot of low powerful drums c there needs to be a balanced mixed to avoid clashing and therefore allow the low end instruments to actually stand out. low ends can’t stand out if everything is low end
I randomly looked for this video on an old ass subject, and you posted this 10 days ago. Life is a simulation.
same!
you're not gonna believe this, man
Same 🇧🇷
I looked this up 2 years ago to no avail. Now it’s up. Love it
Going from 240p to 4K
timbaland taught kanye that day to not put compression when its not necessary
its compressed here because it was ai stemmed

@@plamenhadzhievyep exactly
@@plamenhadzhiev its the drum set he chose that was muddy... the compression was added later and then timba scrapped everything
Kicks are shaper, knock & hit harder, you can fully listen the waveform's backbone (transients/sonics), which the first track doesn't have
Reminds me the drumbreak of scenario from a tribe called quest (mixing wise)

Actually it’s same drums but the blurry one is just worse quality render
Or it’s cut from the song so it’s unclear
Kanye: a bit of water is in your ear from the shower
Timb: you finally feel the water drain out
So Kanye “took down” the original “muddy” version from the radio and switched it to a cleaner one? That’s fascinating.
yeah i didn't know he did that back in the day, i thought he only started "fixing" his songs from Yeezus/TLOP era
It’s so strong and clean
what did timberland do to the beat - ?
Made the drums
Oh wow this true 🔥🔥
anyone know how timbo fixed the kicks and 808s like that?
Literally just added his own drums

new beats were added , some others were removed... it's hard to explain in words, you have to really pay attetntion to the beat.

he needed to call in a whole different producer to realize it would sound better with clean drums instead of muddy?
he needed someone to fix it without changing the whole sound of the track and he didn’t know what specifically was wrong
