(ENG) 2013 Renault Clio 4 1.5 dCi - test drive and review

  • This is the fourth generation of the popular supermini. The car debuted during the 2012 Paris Motor Show. It is clear Renault has high hopes for the new Clio, but is as good, as it looks? Although it is a 5-door car, it looks like a 3-door thanks to the rear door handles concealed in the C-pillars. It gives the car better proportions. The interior is all new with the R-Link multimedia infotainment system, on which apps can be installed.

    Dear Sir,
    You say there is nothing new about this engine.... You should have done your homework.... Maybe the name 1.5dCi is the same, but this is the new 1.5dCi Energy with many enhancements regarding fuel efficiency and drivability.

    One of the most efficient cars in Europe, and not a word about it. Are you serious?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад +2

      It's efficient on paper, and I understand it makes a difference, when you're taxed on CO2 emissions. In real life it's average.

    • @umaxen01

      Marek Drives So, can you give me a list of the top 5 most efficient, economy cars are in Europe?

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад

      umaxen01 Based on what criteria? Engines, fuel type, weight, size, CO2 emissions....

      Marek Drives A quality ECONOMY car which gets EXCEPTIONAL mileage and is readily available in Europe at a comparatively low cost. (I am talking about the LOWEST priced cars available) Diesel or gasoline. It MUST a quality drive feel, be safe and with general care last at least 250,000 km with almost no major component replacement. I was looking at the new Civic Diesel, but the price... I drive too much, and as a typical conservative driver, I am always worried about fuel costs. I was looking at the new Aygo. Opinions? Thanks ahead of time...

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад

      umaxen01 I'd look at VW Up! And if you want bigger look at cars just before they switch to new generation. Preferably petrol and naturally aspirated. Mazda2? The less complicated, the better. Prices will vary depending on the market, but as far as reliability goes, naturally aspirated petrol engines are likely to last longest.

    My mistake. R-Link is the one with apps. Thanks for correcting me.

    Also, if you say that the 0.9tce sucks.... oh well... I thing you have not tried it. Maybe you are just reading numbers and deciding it sucks... I test drove a 0.9tce for 3 days and covered more than 1000km with it. It has a lot of power (a lot more torque than 1.2 75cv), it has long gears like a diesel, top hp very early also (not in the redline...) and it is very fuel efficient. In real conditions, it consumes 1l/100km less or even better compared to the 1.2.

      0.9 TCe is the first new Clio I drove. On paper it looks good, but in real life it is neither dynamic nor economical. It's like with Fiat's TwinAir engine. Made for EU fuel economy tests, but not for real life.

    I called Renault in Poland, and they know nothing about a sunroof or panoramic roof. I know panoramic roof was mentioned in some the early press releases, but at the moment it's not on the price list. Possibly it will appear later on. Maybe after facelift.

    I liked the review. It seemed honest and you made a ton of good points. Up to the point you recommended a Pegeout.

    Don't mind all the cheap french cars lovers here, this is a good review, nice attention to details. That details make a car good or bad, and this one sucks as most from renaults.

    She did. And even if she didn't, the boot lid handle is at a very awkward angle, so even I could hurt myself closing it.

    One of the worst car reviews I've seen, even though the car is great.

  • @MarekDrives
    @MarekDrives 11 лет назад

    On the new Clio. I'm not claiming it's quieter than the diesel, but it has an unpleasant noise of it's own. As I said in the other comment Renault's 0.9 tce is not as refined as Ford's EcoBoost or whatever the 1.0 3-cylinder is called in VW.

  • @MarekDrives
    @MarekDrives 10 лет назад

    Fit & finish leaves something to be desired.

    In Romania on the online configurator you can select panoramic roof for 350 euro but online on the dynamique version.Thanks for the time you spent trying to find the info.I was thinking maybe somebody bought it with sunroof and could share the info

  • @MarekDrives
    @MarekDrives 11 лет назад

    Because it is loud, in normal use it consumes much more petrol, than manufacturer claims, and it has insufficient power. Don't get me wrong - I like some 3-cylinder engines, for example VW's up! or Ford's 1.0 EcoBoost, but PSA and Renault 3-cylinders IMO don't do the job they are supposed to.

    On what car you tried the 0.9 tce?, In Romania i tried Dacia Logan whith 0.9 tce and it's a great engine, and it's really quiet,even quieter than the diesel

  • @MarekDrives

    I haven't driven the new Leon yet. There's a legal battle in Poland between the current Seat distributor and VW, which wants to take over the distribution. So at the moment Seat is virtually non-existent here.

  • @Wayneandjayswildadventures
    @Wayneandjayswildadventures 10 лет назад

    The 0.9l 3cylinder is OK I just don't like the sound,it gets to speed quick but on the carriage way I think it struggles, if driving a lot round town it would be fine..but one thing to look into is diesel is cheaper to buy on finance because of the re sale value.

    When the Alfa came out with the "hidden" door handles, everybody hated them. Now on the Clio everybody is fascinated with them, like, look what cleaver thing Renault thought of...

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 10 лет назад +2

      I never heard any criticisms regarding the rear door handles in 156 or 147, though I heard many other criticisms regarding the AR cars in general ;)

    thats because you never had a 208....i have a 1.4hdi, nice engine but for some reason the car feels poorly made overall and i always have that feeling that something is about to break....feels very fragile, had for about 8 months..thats enough 208 for me.

    The trick to close the boot is to use both hands on both handles

    • @juhojalonen3046
      @juhojalonen3046 7 лет назад

      Those handles were a mistake by Renault. Because they changed the design of the handles in 2014. Also they gave the 0.9TCe an overboost function so now it feels powerful enough.

    why sucks 0.9 tce?

  • @antonisk_s4929
    @antonisk_s4929 2 года назад

    Your review doesn't make any sense. The buttons for cruise control next to the gear box is just on and off. You just turn it on and activate it with the wheel button. Also, who the hell goes for shopping, leaves another person inside the car and takes the keys away. I don't drive a keyless car and anytime someone is inside, I leave the keys for obvious reasons (aircon, music, etc.).
    You're just trying to find problems, who knows why.

  • @thabangsomo2383

    I respect your stance despite all the criticism, but maybe you might want to focus on other down parts of the car than what you mentioned, the car is out there for both genders, maybe you might want to omit mentioning your gf's likes and dislikes [Respect that you did thou, just not a good idea]

      Go to a showroom, open the boot, and close it grabbing by the handle inside. Do it a couple of times, maybe try outside, when its cold and your hands are numb. Or ask your girlfriend to do it. If she breaks her nail, she'll not want this car.
