    I test rode the Africa Twin DCT and its a great bike with wonderful technology. But let´s face it...it´s a bike for people who has money...and i mean a lot. Wich are basically the ones Honda is targeting with this bike. Even for maintainence...dude...you will need some serious cash. With my 650 i feel more conected. It´s simple and easy to mantain. And if you treat it right, that bike will never give you problems. The 650 is a true icon and has some badass image. It´s imposible for Honda or any brand to produce such bike again. 650 with 270 lbs dryweight developed by HRC...cmon...no way. So let´s hang around with our Dominators and ride them till the end. Cause it wont last forever...neither do we.

    You guys are killing me. I have had all those same thoughts over the last year. After many years of mashing my 300xcw all over Baja. Even riding it to Cabo from Tecate. But for a lot reason in your video im thinking of going that route. Wont give up the KTM 300XCW or 450 XCW. Just need to add another to the fleet for more fun in Baja. Thanks for helping me deplete my retirement funds. Awesome videos. Mucho Gracias. See you on the trail in Baja.

    You both make VERY solid points. Hoping to end up with a T7 tricked out in my garage sooner than later. OR the new Honda equivalent. Jimmy Lewis is still raving about the T7 as a big dirt bike. The appeal of not having to load up my dual sport to go ride is appealing. Even moreso to simply blast down the road with enough gear, clothes, etc to spend a week or two going from SoCal to Cabo.

    Took my 16' AT DCT and ran many of the Baja1000 tracks on the west coast. Rode w/ two 690's, left those in the dust in deep sand hoops w/ the DCT. Building up another XR650R for short distance desert but the CRF1000 is great for some slab, some offroad etc. You need some IRC TR8 battle rally for the front. Heavy carcass, great for highway speed and grip. I just run Slime and never had a puncture.

    I have ridden dirt bikes my whole life. I recently got rid of a Beta 500 and got a fully modded KTM 990. The 990 is SO AWESOME. There is nothing "old man" about it. Any of you who are experienced riders and love to rip, and are wanting a bigger bike for all of the obvious reasons, the 990 is hard to beat. I know it is getting older and there isn't as much support down in Baja for a KTM, but damn does the thing rip. Bermcannon I know you love your Hondas but I think you'd love a kitted 990. Also, thanks for the awesome content!!!

    I’ve watched your videos for a while and they are great. One bit of advice for your sound is invest in a dead cat for your microphone so you sound doesn’t clip. This is a very inexpensive addition for your mic.

    Started with 1982 XL500R from CT to Rockies. Then did it on 1985 GL1200A. We rode GoldWings on gravel roads for two days (by mistake) behind the Tetons somewhere. Front 130/90 16 balloon tire wobbles like crazy on gravel and grated bridges. Wished we were on XL’s again or to be invented AT’s. Never satisfied, but having a great time.

    Honda AT or Dominator? At my stage, I would go for AT. Without the clutch, it would be difficult to ride more steeper terrains. Great points in the discussion.

    The thing about having these two bikes only have one problem to me, becouse since 2000 i´ve ride my XR when and where i wanted to from time to time. But the last time that i went for a ride on the 650R after having the AT and riding it for 4000 miles was that i´ve had a awkward sensation while ridind the XR. I guess i felt no longer confident handeling the bike!
    Of course during the day things got more familiar again but that glimp never happened to me before even when i was like one year or less whithout riding it.
    Maybe its the 50´s getting near by...

    And funny cause I used to see the adv riders as too soft lol. But I'm all for it now. Great review guys.

    My friends were totally dogging me on for getting into adv bikes a couple years ago and now they all wish they had one. Hard to beat a 790 or 890 adventure r in Baja.

  • @keithrit
    @keithrit 5 месяцев назад

    All you have to do is look at the weight of the Adventure bikes and you’ll see the negative but only if you ride in places where weight matters. Bombing down dirt roads it don’t matter.

    The best bike is the one you have. There is always a better mouse trap out there. I’ve never been to Baja but I believe the magic of Baja is Baja not the seat and handlebars of whatever bike.

    Great thing is motorcycles are relatively inexpensive.
    Sometimes I want to cover some ground and I grab my adventure bike. Sometimes I want a light bike to screw around town or do some single track so I’ll grab my dual sport.
    XR650R is a completely different bike then an Africa twin. Adventure bikes are only old man bikes if you aren’t taking them “off road”…..then at that point you better be in Damn good shape to wrestle them around.
