1:99 It really does look like squirrel is taunting that hawk. (I could practically hear him saying you wanna piece of me?) I'm surprised the hawk pursued it so long; I thought they could only catch stuff in full flight. Seeing it fly around that tree was crazy!
It looked like the squirrel was taunting the hawk to me, too. I guess the smaller size didn't intimidate the "furry beast"--but that sure was impressive!
Wow, that's some wild action! Young hawk, right? (Or are there small species?) I was amazed at how bold the squirrel was and also how the hawk was flying around the trunk of the tree in pursuit. Great video; thanks Trakdv!
That squirrel was thinking of attacking the hawk at a couple points, but it was too far out of reach. He was like, "Dude, are you for real? Get out of here already."
The Cooper's hawks really are a little too small to be feeding on adult squirrels. If you search you can find other videos showing the same thing with the large fox squirrels not taking the Cooper's hawks seriously. There are plenty of rats and mice for the hawks to feed on if they want the taste of a small mammal.
Great footage... he is not too afraid of the raptor.
Squirrel was lucky that wasn’t an experienced, more mature hawk. Hopefully they both learned from this experience.
squirrels have crazy sidewinder skills
Wow squirrels are always proving how amazing they are

I've never seen anything like it before!

Great action video with the hawk chasing around the wiley squirrel. Beautiful looking young hawk, but smarter, outwitting squirrel.
Smarter AND faster! LOL
I think the squirrel might have had the weight advantage!
Looks like a red-tailed hawk. Smaller than the red-shouldered hawk. That is the most persistent hawk I have seen.
I thought it was a coopers hawk- But I am not sure.
@@trakdv362 very similar; could be.
Great footage Trakdv. That is one cool squirrel 🐿️
Great footage! the squirrel and hawk going around the tree 😀
Holy cow that was something

It was a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. Full grown Cooper's Hawks are only about the size of an adult crow.

Oh wow.
If I were that bird I'd be mad ah cuz how am I failing to catch something I'm designed to kill??
