    I felt so poor just by heard "2 or 4 pairs in a month" i remember as a teenager put hot silicone all over the "wear areas" or in a hurry black electric tape, a pair would last 6 to 8 months taking that "care", and to be fair early 2000s shoes were really long lasting shoes.

      I find that canvas uppers and vulcanized bottom style shoes don't last as long as cup soles with leather/suede. That's why my favorite shoe in recent years is the New Balance Tiago 1010. At $100-110 it's not a cheap shoe but it will last twice as long as shoe currently out.

      I could not relate with that and getting free stuff all the time as well. • @Supyr_gg
    @Supyr_gg 2 года назад +70

    If you go through a pair of shoes a week or 2/week then that definitely reflects on the shoe company itself. SKATEBOARDING SHOES shouldn't dissolve after 8-16 hours of use. Especially for pros. I understand that people go hard on certain tricks but god damn if the skate shoe company can't make a shoe that lasts more than a week for its own pros, then why would it be worth buying? As they said, the price of the shoe has gone up like crazy but for some reason the durability has tanked as well? This is the definition of fast fashion, but in this case it's fast equipment.
    I used to ride vans for the longest time but what started as a month to get through them, quickly shortened in the past couple of years, while the price went up. Last pair I had lasted 2 weeks and were on sale for $75. Then I switched to Emerica for a while cus those were the same cost but at least lasted a month but weren't comfortable when you weren't on a skateboard. Then I switched to New Balance cus they were comfy off the board, lasted a month but quickly got to be too expensive. And they cycle through so many different models that when I find one I like it's already been discontinued. I landed at DC recently and it really is a great balance of a sturdy shoe, comfy off the board, they ALWAYS have sales for them to where I"m picking up 2 pair for $50, and they last 1-2 months.
    @NineClub I challenge you all to pay homage to your viewer base and come up with a solution to make shoes last longer for the common skater, instead of just humble bragging about how much money (shoes, decks, etc) you are able to waste. Something beyond shoe goo. or maybe a full episode looking at ways to increase the durability of the products we choose / support you all by buying. I once read about someone who puts shoe goo on with a piece of ice. Or how to properly fix chips in your board. Or the best ways to clean bearings. etc.
    "Shoes aren't made the way they used to be"... bro you 5 are some of the most influential people in skateboarding right now. You are literally making money by talking about the wasteful skate industry (shoes and companies that YOU skate for). And y'all were pro during the time you wish skate shoes used to be like. Why don't you guys DO something to get us there, or to combine what we've learned with what used to be great in order to push us forwards?
    "This is the only industry that gives out so much free stuff in lieu of being paid". Pros in other industries get free shit all the time AND they get paid the big bucks. The reason it's not as much as a box of 20 shoes a month, is because their equipment lasts 20x as long. You think soccer players are going through 1-2 pairs of shoes per week? Or even per month? or even PER SEASON? If companies made shit that lasted, skaters could get paid money AND product instead of huge amounts of wasteful products.
    And you all actually have the ability and voices to change this.

    I skated the vintage blazers for about 6 months and never ripped through the leather. Had to stop skating them because I blew holes through the bottoms.
    Currently skating the Louie converse mid tops and I love them, they’re soggy asl but have also lasted me about 6 months now and only a have a few minor holes and ripped laces. The bottoms are starting to blow out on them as well though, a penny sized hole has formed under my big toe of my front foot and the vulc sole is starting to come unglued. I think the only reason I’ll have to stop skating these is because the bottoms will fall apart. They have great board feel and already bought another pair but also plan on skating the new balance mid tops.
    Highly recommend the blazers mid tops if you rip through shoes and don’t mind having a longer break in period (they can be a pain in the ass to put on). The Louie is definitely my favorite shoe and don’t miss skating vans at all.

    I would say if you're learning kickflip tricks especially double kickflip tricks, your shoes get cut down fast. If you're doing late shove it tricks, too. Lots of griptape sliding.
    I find that heelflip tricks are a lot less damaging on your shoes.
    I'd say these days I'll skate a pair of shoes for 4-6 months, but I'm not afraid to run shoe goo on the wear areas to extend the life of the shoes.

    also the suede on accel slims wears down quicker than any dunk low ive skated. every dunk low ive skated with suede never rips or gets worn down. on the es accel slim they defo wear down at the front. also i found my first dunk highs truck it. to be low quality suede too that wore down quick. i have wheat and mocha dunk lows that has good suede. ive got murasaki ride life navy blue dunk lows and the suede on thats just as durable as the wheats and not worn down. i wish accel slim was a more solid construction just like a dunk low.

    I skate every day and I go through a pair or two of practice shoes a month, but I also stock up on built shoes like Adidas and Etnies (when they go on sale) and keep up with my hot glue and shoe goo game. Of course I also have fresh shoes that I wear to impress. I think it’s essential to have shoes for grinding, and shoes for showing out.
