Wow, you are the third content creator within a single week whom I like watching who reduces their upload schedule. I totally understand the pressure though. Everyone can see how much effort you put into every single video. All the best to you and have a great trip to Patagonia.
I'm starting to think utube mass suggests these "2-week notice" videos to make the creator rethink their decision. No videos, no Ad Revenue profit. I'm not subscribed, and I've never seen this guy, this is the first vid I'm seeing on autoplay. BUT this isn't the first time this has happened. RUclips once played an update vid that the creator had passed away, same thing, never seen the channel, not subscribed to it.
I've always been so blown away with the quality of photography/videography in your videos. I also realize that those can't be a weekly occurrence, and I do also enjoy the shorter videos, outtakes, gear reviews, etc. I hope this new direction helps reduce the impact of the grind and makes you feel more creatively charged. Looking forward to the future of your channel (and I hope to join you on a future adventure).
My family and I watch your trip videos on our big screen as though they were National Geographic films. Whatever your upload schedule, we will watch! Yours are the highest quality, most cinematic backpacking videos on RUclips. Thank you for doing what you do!!
You do an outstanding job. I watch RUclipsrs more for their personality than content. Those of us that like your channel will continue to watch. Please take your time and be true to yourself. Cheers
Hands down, you and Miranda are my favorite outdoor creators. As a new backpacker I have watched a ton of videos in the last few months. Do whatever you need to do to balance Patagonia! safe and fun travels in patagonia!
Your content has been integral to my re-intro to backpacking after 30 years away. I appreciate that you are evolving your channel and taking some time for adventure for yourself.
Eric, my wife and I so enjoy your videos and will be doing more backpacking together. We have used u videos with others to make some purchased for our packs. Also my wife and I so enjoy Kristi's art she is so talented. I know how hard it is to produce videos, mine are not even close to how well yours are done, but I do understand. Keep up the awesome work and have a safe trip with Kristi.
Your passion and drive comes through in every video Eric. Fewer videos with richer content is a very fair tradeoff in my opinion. Keep up the great work, you're doing awesome. All the best to you and Christie!
I stumbled on your content as you started your independent journey, and I've loved learning from and adventuring with you. I also don't follow a ton of outdoor guys on YT, because I feel like a lot of the gals out there are more relatable to my situations, and your channel has been a great addition to my rotation. Thank you for your time, energy, and creativity, Eric!
I can't imagine the pressure of single handedly envisioning, producing and editing a video every week. It's so important to have time to breathe, process and consider. I'm sure your videos will continue their excellence!
I have subscribed since your previous channel and think that your channel is great, I think I speak for most of your viewers when I say the we are faithful watchers, not because of quantity but quality. Keep up the good work even if it means fewer videos. Thanks for your endeavors.
Awesome news! Your content is always so well done, I have wondered how you manage to post every week, and it's always so beautiful! It's a lot of work, and the travel isn’t cheap, for sure! I will wait patiently to see Patagonia 😊
You need to do what's best for yourself. 💙 Btw, my mother and I have been watching your videos together. We watched one of the cold-weather ones a couple nights ago and the next day she went out and bought a new axe. 🤣 We love your wife, too! She seems like such a good and fun person.
Love your videos. I really hope your channel continues to grow and grows quickly so that you continue to produce this awesome content. Thank you for what you do.
I’ve been watching you for MONTHS and never realized I wasn’t subscribed - well that changed today! Thank you for making such fun, light hearted videos that are always a joy to watch. From one Arizonan to another, thank you, Eric!!😊
I don’t know how you managed a video a week for so long. Im looking forward to your longer content. Your trip videos are the best. I love that that is becoming your focus
I was randomly flipping through channels on a Saturday afternoon, and there were you and Dan Becker on your GC rim to rim on Idaho public television. It is such a beautiful video and a great reminder of the things that may not go as planned on trail. I love that it was redone with you narrating. Please continue to make content in whatever way allows you to take us on your journey with you.
You’re doing so good! You’re one of my favorite (if not favorite) RUclips backpackers! The way you humbly explain and share your experiences is better than the Braggadocious way some of the guys do and your hiking skills are on point. I’ve got some of my gear based on some of your recommendations. I can’t believe you only have 49k subs. You’re very underrated in that regard. Keep on keeping on! You’ve got the camera skills and interesting content I’m sure you’ll get there. Thanks Eric for the great content!
good content creation is dang hard. I don't know how you all do it. ok by me to slow it down a bit, but understand the need for compensation as well. Thanks for your honesty.
Thank you for all the content you create. Your videos are first rate! I enjoy the way you bring us along on your journeys and introduce new gear while giving your expert opinion. I appreciate all the hard work and effort you put into each video. THANKS!!!!!!!
I really appreciate your honesty and direct message to your viewers. Quality is always better than quantity. You make the highest quality videos in the field and this heart to heart will just strengthen your base. Have a safe and wonderful trip.
Eric you know what I liked about this one ? It was like sitting down and having a conversation that was both interesting and one on one with all your subscribers . Your frankness was a nice change of pace as to collaborator’s with you about finding what we like to see and what you like to do together . Def will take more due diligence to your sponsors . All the best ,you’re great and so is your content .
The work you put in is evident Eric. I don’t watch too many RUclipsrs from across the pond but I do always watch yours and Miranda’s whenever I see them. I’m 46 so like to watch the effort. The younger gen are all 30s tik toc fans. Keep up the channel. I will watch regardless of how you steer your career
Glad you are talking the time you need. I really appreciate your clarity about where you and the channel are. A random thought I have had for a bit: have you ever considered a 2nd channel of your scenic B-Roll from trips with music? You have done that for short periods of time in some videos and I would 100% watch more of that as a way to unwind and relax. It seems like a way you could get more views from video you have already taken without (hopefully) quite as much work to edit. Have a great trip to Patagonia!
Hey Eric! Love the channel and will definitely be a patreon supporter when you have that up. That being said, I think part of the issue you might be running into is the degree to which many hiker/backpacking enthusiasts may follow multiple hosts. I follow you, Dan, Miranda, the Gear Skeptic and Dixie pretty much religiously and I sometimes end up seeing a somewhat repetitive offering on all of those channels down to the same sponsors ect. or gear review topics. I think maybe doing more adventure type videos like sea kayaking off the coast of Patagonia, canoeing and or kayaking some different rivers long distance (like the Upper Missouri or Columbia rivers) would introduce you to a wider audience. I think your cooperative ventures with Miranda and Dan are really cool and I'd like to see more of that both with them and other creators along with non-creators (like hooking up with a group of through hikers on the CDT, PCT or AT for a week to ten days), maybe doing a couple of segments with particular interest groups like Biologists, Archaeologists or Geoligists that are accessing the backcountry for scientific purposes or maybe hiking clubs for older hikers to see what being ready for hiking into your 70's are like. Anyway, hope your trip to Patagonia is grand and I'll keep watching.
Eric, I appreciate the upfront candor and your passion for what you do. You and Dan have inspired me to get back out backpacking at 51 with my son. If you’re ever in the Northern Virginia area and are up for a hike you’ve got a hiking buddy anytime. Thanks for what you do.
I get it. Anyone who has attempted to record and upload videos know how much work is involved. I for one appreciate all the advice you have have given out over the years. What is the brand and model watch you are wearing in this video. Attach a link and if I buy one I will do it through your page.
I subscribe to quite a few creators who discuss backpacking. Your channel is my absolute favorite. My husband, who doesn't backpack, even asks " hey does that Eric guy have a new video yet?" . I don't do patreon subscriptions but for your channel, I bet I will. Thanks for bringing the best of nature into my living room. And PS I so thought you were going to announce a baby was on the way.... 😁😁
I understand...I try to do it and I don't even make money "not enough views sadly" hahahaha. I think the main goal is to enjoy doing it and feel great about it no matter what. Money or not. Be happy and publish when you can (We'll enjoy the videos when they come out). Take care ;)
I completely support this change. Your approach to gear and planning is very similar to mine so I really appreciate your content. I think that if the creative quality goes up your desire to keep putting out quality content will too! Win-win. Thanks for the inspiration you provide so many of us to get out there and enjoy nature.
1 - the long long form detailed amazing trip content is what I love 2 - a quality over quantity! 3 - I like these short ad hoc vlog vids too couple maybe have them in the weeks where the big tasks are hard as needed :) 4 - would love the more misc stuff on patreon too! From a mum who tramps (aka backpacks) with her kids in New Zealand and loves learning from you to give me ideas - grateful I don’t have to worry about bears ever lol
we love you eric!! totally support you taking time to pour into quality videos, you always strive for that and it’s so evident! always here to cheer you on 🫶🏻
Eric, I just recently found your channel while looking for tent and mattress recommendations. I really enjoyed your hikes with Miranda. As an occasional kayak camper, I'm looking for smaller and lighter gear to stow away in hatches and dry-bags. Thank you for allowing us tap into your years of experience for FREE on this platform. Would you consider doing a collaboration with another RUclips kayaker in 2025? There is some cross-over in backpacking and kayak/canoe camping and I think that could expose your channel to new viewers. Wishing you safe passage abroad.
I truly love your videos, especially when your wife is included. I love the adventurous, beautiful lifestyle you both have created. Very inspiring to watch. I will miss your weekly vids, but enjoy Patagonia. Take care, safe travels. Hope to see your videos again soon after the new year. Eric, everything will work out. Please do not lose your passion & enthusiasm!
Thank you! My wife and dog make the videos so much better! FYI my wife will be in the upcoming Patagonia videos too. I still have loads of passion and enthusiasm!
Agreed with everyone here that says take your time. Your long format videos are amazing. You’re one of my favorite BP YTers so will continue to try to support when I can.
Wishing you the best for you and your family. I’ll be here when you do post new videos! I have bought some of the budget gear on Amazon that you recommended! Thank you for those reviews!
Subscribed from the UK. ..Would be great to see you over here one day Eric. Maybe the Lake District or Scottish Highlands. I'm sure the American audience would enjoy seeing what the UK has to offer.
I've been on the Penine Way in the past and was really impressed by it, very endearing trail. I absolutely want to get up to the Lake District and up into Scotland. I miss the scones of the UK!
I fully support this decision! I’d rather have only one or two videos a month that’s well thought out, great cinematography, etc than a bunch of quick, half-arsed put together ones every week. Let your channel be a representation of you, however that looks. Hope you all enjoy Patagonia! SO looking forward to those videos…whenever they come out.
I think that any creative endeavor needs to make changes, otherwise the creativity itself takes a hit. It'll be interesting to see what the changes bring. Have a great trip and a happy holiday season. ✌️
Eric, you are not a machine!! You make very beautiful and enjoyable videos! When you're tired, creativity goes down. I totally get it. I'm sure if you just go at a pace that works for you and Kristy, your videos will more than make up for the lack of a regimented schedule!! Looking forward to the Patagonia trip!! Stay safe and God bless😊❤
Hi Eric! In a previous video where you are hiking with your wife I recall her saying she had a back issue, maybe a herniated disc? Well, I herniated a disc in my lower back and am probably feeling similarly to how she is on the trail. If you could tell me and others with a similar problem what has worked for her to help her get through the miles, or maybe just her day to day pain, that would be awesome. I found moving to ultralight helped a lot but I'm sure there is more I could do that I'm not aware of. Many Thanks!
There you go, new abo from me. Watching your content every now and then. Keep the quality up. Stay true to yourself and enjoy your time. All that reflects and will improve your channel. Save travels to you guys.
Quality over Quantity, especially for this kinda thing. Cause it takes time to hike out. film, process film, and put it out. Plus all of the mental and physical energy spent there. leaving yourself some space between deadlines should be good for everything. don't burn out the creativity too fast! Longevity is way better than flash fire growth / revenue. All the love friend, I look forward to watching more stuff from you, even if it comes out a year from now. I still watch HHbomberguy's stuff, even though he only uploads once a year at best!
Wish I were heading with you to Patagonia. Looking forward to seeing footage from the adventure. Be sure to keep us posted on travel opportunities for 2025. Always enjoy your videos.
I was wondering when you were going to Patreon. Man ya gotta do what ya gotta do, no apologies or worries. Happy to see your content whenever you can put it out. If I may make a suggestion, you are one of the only RUclipsrs that is an actual filmmaker. You put out quality content but let me tell you what no one else is doing. No one is doing cliffhangers. You could edit your adventures and build up the drama in a fun way this will bring people back and pull people into your channel and your content. Not saying you need to be in peril, but questions for the viewer to run through in their mind, a bear in camp, strange people at a shelter. Whatever, you know there are decisions that all backpackers have to make, use these opportunities to playfully build the drama. I'm telling you your viewers will love it and not one ever does it. One video for each adventure, bust it into 2 or 3 of a series and end each one with an issue... just think about it. Of all the RUclipsr's out there you are best equipped to do it. You are in big country out there where the stakes are already higher. Anyway, that's more than just 2 cents. Be careful in Patagonia, looking forward to seeing your content when you return!
It's a good reminder to have every so often that this is a job and supports a family. If you like what you see then do something to support that creator. Keep up the awesome content and travel safe to Patagonia.
I just subscribed. I recently started getting into backpacking a few months ago, and have come across a number of your videos - in fact, I bought a Mystery Ranch Bridger 65 on your recommendation (still trying it out and comparing it to an Osprey Atmos 65). I've kind of settled on your channel and Miranda's as my two favorites. To be honest, backpacking gear reviewers are a dime a dozen. Once I'm done buying most of my gear, I'll probably stop watching most channels. But I'll still be interested in backpacking, learning new skills and helpful tips, seeing beautiful scenery, and just having a good laugh., and that's why I'll keep watching. I'm looking forward to your new creative endeavors.
I love that you're being transparent, your videos have been not only informative but also inspirational and entertaining. We will try to support you 1000% Work hard and play hard
I love your content and your sponsors are superior. The quality of your videos is top notch. Can’t wait to see the Patagonia trip. Makes me want to do more.
More adventure videos please! I loved your video of the Icicle Divide trail, the review of the gear and trail combo shows the real life use along with the views and experience!
Hey Eric, firstly thank you for l that you do to inspire the outside community! My question is will you be organising another trip like the Patagonia one? I would have loved to come on that trip but found out too late about it.
I'm also a content creator, but in different ways. I do have my own hiking channel, but I also have to alot time to produce hiking guidebooks, which takes A LOT of time! Plus I work 5 days a week...even though I'm a small content creator, I too have to dial some stuff down. I have no idea how other creators manage multiple videos in a week...yikes! Hats off to you, Eric!
Solid thinking, Eric, your channel has been a great exercise in moving from a spokesperson position to a sustainable entrepreneur. Along the way it's been fun to watch you reveal your personal thoughts along with really great stories. With 50 years of media experience and content creation ranging across multi-national corporations to small businesses, I can see your thought process evolving quickly to a business operation that will satisfy your needs. Enjoy Patagonia and I look forward to your continued business success!
Hi Eric! I always enjoy your videos and will continue to follow your adventures. Thanks for always sharing your journeys and your knowledge (and witty humor) with your followers. Have an amazing trip to Patagonia with Kristi, and with the group! Safe travels!
Eric, you are one of the best RUclipsrs out there and I so appreciate your honesty and openess about the reality of balancing everything in your life. Wanting to be more present and having more time to enhance each and every video is a testament to your creativity, passion, and devotion to your viewers and we all benefit from your talent. Keep up the amazing work and safe travels!
Eric, I thoroughly enjoy your videos and respect you as a person. I already subscribe and use both OnX and LMNT, so I will definitely consider subscribing to your Patrion. Keep doing what you do, my brother. On another note, you have inspired me to get my butt back in gear on growing my channel. God Bless.
So, dude, I have watched you for a long time. Watched both of us get old... yep... old... it happens. I, personally, am all in with whatever you do. In retrospect, all your content has been informative and helpful. But it was never really about that for me. I just enjoyed your presentation and personality. Oddly enough, I was not subscribed. I have never Patroned in my life and had hoped to keep it that way, but you may force my hand. You do your thang man and good luck with it. I may be in the background, but I'm with ya! 👴 Safe travels. 🙏
Eric, your videos have been instrumental in my backpacking journey! Thanks for sharing your expertise and passion. I'm excited to see what you create in Patagonia and beyond. Looking forward to the Q&A - keep up the awesome work! #backpacking #EricHanson
I'll miss having new videos to watch as often, this channel along with a few other backpacking channels have helped me greatly, bringing some form of calm, balance and hope for my future. I'll survive though, and better content is always appreciated!
You have been one of 3 youtubers who have truly inspired me to change my life and get outside. You have to take care of you and your family. It won't change anything for us!
Enjoy Patagonia! I myself am planning a trip there on February! Looking forward to your next videos. Quality over quantity is always better - so kudos on the courage to change and adapt
Your longer trip videos are some of the most beautiful backpacking content on this site, take the time it takes!
I always want to see fewer, better videos, from healthier, happier creators. Good changes, all the best going forward
I wish I could like this comment 100x! So true. Grinding creators down to nothing helps no one, excpet maybe a few extra dollars to RUclips.
100% agree
Wow, you are the third content creator within a single week whom I like watching who reduces their upload schedule. I totally understand the pressure though. Everyone can see how much effort you put into every single video. All the best to you and have a great trip to Patagonia.
RUclips has drastically reduced ad revenue. Some creators are reporting a 60% drop for the same number of views.
@praetoria_ Thanks for the info.🌻 I thought something like that must behind it.
That's interesting. That may be just coincidence I'm reducing my schedule at the same time as other creators. And thanks!
@@praetoria_ This must be the 8th time in the last months where channels say that their revenue decrease by xx% ...
I'll take quality over quantity every time.
Exactly!
I agree!
Safe travels to Patagonia. Keep up the great work Eric. You're one of the best story tellers in the backpacking realm!
I really appreciate that. Just trying to get better! Patagonia will be mighty fun.
I've always been so blown away with the quality of photography/videography in your videos. Hell yeah core audience represent!! Enjoy Patagonia!
woohoo thanks Rainer!

I'm really happy to hear that, helping people get into backpacking (or back into backpacking) has always been one of the joys of what I get to do!
You are one of my top 5 channels that I truly respect your backpacking advise and also enjoy your trips out and especially with other collaborators.
I really appreciate that Kristy, thank you!

Quality is always better than quantity… You are making a good choice from my prospective
You need to do what's best for yourself. 💙

I subscribed to your channel coming out of Covid. Haven't stopped watching. Big influence in my own journeys. Thanks Eric
Do you, Eric. I’m along for the ride as long as you’ll have me!
Thank you for the beautiful content.

Enjoy Patagonia! I love your channel. I don't get ro go backpacking as much as I'd like so I live vicariously thru your videos.
I enjoy the type of videos that test the limits of camping, either with gear or with the environment like AB camping.
we love you eric!! totally support you taking time to pour into quality videos, you always strive for that and it’s so evident! always here to cheer you on 🫶🏻
Awesomeness... have a great time. I hope to be part of your hike adventure one day. Next year. I am a follower.
The video quality from the last trip to the Andes was fantastic. I’m looking forward to seeing everything from Patagonia. Safe travels!
Patagonia is on my list. Looking forward to the videos in the New Year. Have fun
Also big fan from the UK ... Eric did a vid a few years back doing part of the Pennine Way.
Have a great trip to Patagonia!! Thanks for your effort and your videos. Looking forward for the next ones. Cheers from Mexico.
Thank you so much. Good stuff is coming!
Quality- and sanity- over quantity every single time!
Have an amazing trip to Patagonia!!
Patagonia! Very excited to see it through your stories when you come back.
Thanks for your fantastic videos. I will be here enjoying all you upload!
Really enjoy your channel and appreciate any content you provide. 4 times a month or once a month I’ll be watching. Enjoy your trip!
I love your content. It takes time to make great content. 100% understand.
Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. Thank you Eric for not wasting our time with fluff or empty content.
Take the time you need. If you are putting out great videos people will follow! Do you have a link to the products
you use on Amazon?
If you look in the descriptions of the Amazon videos there are links to everything. And thank you!
Thanks for making videos
Whatever you create, I’ll be watching. I enjoy your content and your realness. Your content has been very helpful and really fun.
I wish you luck and future prosperity.
Sounds like a solid road map Eric! U can't wait to see your stories from Patagonia. - Kyle
Love your channel and will continue to watch and support!!
Thanks for the honest share.
I love all your travel videos and backpacking videos. ❤
Enjoy Patagonia! I myself am planning a trip there on February! Looking forward to your next videos. Quality over quantity is always better - so kudos on the courage to change and adapt
The struggle is real. Please do whatever you need to keep your creativity alive. I am here for it. Take care and God bless.
Your effort is appreciated.
Thank you for the update !!
