People don't realize how ACTUALLY old this song is. The melody of the first demo was the melody that, according to Joe: ''Was stuck in his head ever since he went to Hawaii when he was 8''. This song is decades old.
i thought the "melody stuck in his head" was in reference to Dream Sweet?
@@sbubbt2318 It was. No idea what OP is talking abt
so joe got the electric chair when he was 8?
@@cookies5129 poor guy
@@sbubbt2318 you're telling me that dream sweet was first thought of in 1990?!
man, joe held onto this one idea for so long, i cant imagine how it mustve felt to hear the final version of the song in hawaii part II knowing it was the culmination of at least 6 years of the creative process
FR!!! Long projects like that are the best to complete
Would have been a lot longer, this was before the 2005 release of Marvin's, I would say it was about 8 years, maybe 7
joe says that he sticks to his ideas forever. quite a few of the songs in hawaii part ii are very old
6? Try 10. The earliest versions of this are from before Marvin's. So pre 2005.
for real.. the craziest thing to me is 'Dream Sweet' is a melody or something that was stuck in his head in 1997 as a kid on vacation in *hawaii* , and iirc its what brought him into the world of songwriting.
I like how this song also splintered into Labyrinth.
@@alejandroguevara8455 stranded lullaby took a bit from most of the songs tho
@@alejandroguevara8455 Stranded Lullaby was mostly based off of an old song Joe wrote for one of his college girlfriends
ik bro
i dont because it made labyrinth exist, seemingly unfinished, in hawaii part, dare i say ruining the album by just cluttering, and confuzzling everything. should've been a solo like variations on a cloud because it only takes from the story.

@@TheBestClyde id say this tops fate of the stars easily

@@clemclemclemclemclI’d say Fate If The Stars is more of a Magnum Opus for Good & Evil while Dream Sweet In Sea Major is the magnum opus for Hawaii Part II
5:32 they honestly should’ve kept that scream in the final version of the song, or they should have put any sort of scream in it. It would’ve fit so well

Why are they singing simlish
If you listen VERY closely you can hear speaking in the background of the reverse part.
Here's what I've picked out so far:
- A man saying "I would like too..." (I couldn't hear the rest of his sentence)
- A woman saying "You should be ashamed of yourself"
- A small child saying "And then they sailed off" (I once more could not hear the rest of the sentence)
Those 3 quotes basically just sum up the story, just not very well.
Found it! ruclips.net/video/bpEwYJ5GQIM/видео.html it’ at about 2:35 in
Most of the words in the background are written on the genius lyrics page. I think someone found the original BBC audio that the last bit is from (the one talking about sailing off and dumping you at Timbuktu)
Oh susy, a sloop.
They would sail you off and dump you onto the beaches of Timbuktou.
They can't dump me onto the beaches of Timbuktou.
Why not?
Well because Timbuktou happens to be in the middle of the Sahara desert.

That image is a puzzle. They are equally distributed. Look at the corners first, then the center between each corner. They are never there twice. Then look at the 9 in the center. The same rules apply. But Joe is in the middle, which is the only break of the pattern.
Talking about the first one, not the second one lol.
I think it goes deeper than that as well there looks to be more recurring patterns.
Im trying so hard to figure out what you mean but im so lost help. i even made a grid on paper and colored in the corresponding tie color
@@cleo_con honestly I quit half way through, basically the corners and mid sections between corners are always different band members. The only break in sequence is Joe Hawley in the middle, that could represent something about Joe hawley breaking character or being different. Or it could just be that he wrote the song and they just wanted to put emphasis on him.
@@cleo_con a better way of explains it is that if they don’t repeat, there’s only 1 per row. If you focus on one of them and check the vertical and horizontal row that it’s in then it will be all different members. Technically I was talking about a different pattern though, it could have been just a side effect of trying to create this one, but I find it unlikely.
i still cant believe this song was actually decades old, according to Joe the melody of The Mind Electric was stuck in his head ever since he went to Hawaii when he was 8. HES 41 YEARS OLD NOW

So I found this song through an amv/pmv. At the time I had never heard of Tally Hall, I had heard snippets of Turn The Lights Off and Banana Man, but was never really interested in finding out about who wrote either one. With The Mind Electric, however, it instantly became one of my favorite songs. I found this video, looked through the comments, and barely understood what they were talking about. As time went on, however, I slowly learned more about the band. I started actively listening to them, all the while learning more about them and growing my obsession. Now here I am, Tally Hall now being my absolute FAVORITE band and me being able to name any song under the Tally Hall label!
