The Speed Option: Take the hostage out of the equation.
All right, pop quiz. Airport, gunman with one hostage. He's using her for cover, he's almost to a plane.
You're a hundred feet away."
"Shoot the hostage."
"What?"
"Take her out of the equation. Go for the good wound and he can't get to the plane with her. Clear shot."
You're deeply nuts, you know that?
'Shoot the hostage.' "
"You shot me, I can't believe it. They're giving you a medal for shooting me, you little prick!"
Harry......you TOLD me to."
@@txgunguy2766your example is stupid. This is Star Trek, with phasers to stun the hostage so they fall out of the captors grasp…
@doomedbringer
I'd like to help you out. Which way did you come in?
@@txgunguy2766 "Here's to Harry. For his Quick thinking, for his grace under pressure, and his brave and selfless act" "Hear Hear!" "....AAAND to Jack. For Shooting Harry. Something we've all wanted to do for a VERY loong Time!"

Yeah, that last part was hilarious.
Loved that part when i saw it on tv back during airing.
"What's a stun setting?"
Ooh.... Epic ouch bro! Wouldn't be surprised if T'pol had ordered a Klingon disrupter rifle. Without a stun & safety feature.
@@thekingofwaffles8403That would be illogical given the fact that their main mission is exploration & diplomacy. A weapon with no stun setting would not be ideal when you are trying to be friendly.
bro did not hesitate 💀
Sure he did...for a few seconds. 😂
I wouldn’t either XD it’s stun for a reason
-You shot me
-it was the only logical way to save you
-Fair point
A logical decision
Absolutely. A Vulcan would never act differently.
Fascinating nonetheless.
It was probably the kinder option, otherwise T'Pol might have hurt the guy.
T'Pol would have suggested it if she had been given the chance. "You may fire when ready, Mr. Reed."
Funny, just 12 hours earlier, she said, "You may fire when ready, Mr. Tucker."
Reed was my favorite character from the show, and T'Pol would have said something like that and be completely in character!
Love the Tarkin reference.
You may fire when ready!
Did you really just try that with Lt. Malcolm Reed? During a worst case scenario, he's never had any shits to give. Lol..
Reed is the best security chief in the all the series I reckon. Dude actually sought to develop fresh tactics for emerging threats, and considered the consequences of enemy strategy. The writers probably just got more time to spend on his lore, like with Odo. They got character growth, but Odo's was more about his juxtaposition of being a shapeshifter living with solids.
@@MediocreAverage I agree with you. The character was less of a gimmick and more of someone who would be expected to perform his job well, based on his skill set.
Reed Alert! Reed Alert!!
Now folks around here are doing a whole lot of ignoring Shax for being in warp core range.
Considering the timeline when Enterprise came out Reed was technically the first extra-solar Tactical Officer/Chief of Security i Starfleet and developed all the protocols and contingencies later used by the TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and Prodigy crews. He came up with what became the "red alert" while under the influence of radiation that made him obsess over the security systems, he learned from prior encounters, and also was the first battlefield TO/CoS since he had to deal with; Klingons, Borg (unnamed at the time), Suliban, and Xindi Coalition before the Earth-Romulan War
Pretty sure T'pol said he made the logical choice when she woke up. After she save him an raised eyebrow that could kill, of course.
Hes ded Jim
LOVE those oldtime phasers used in _Enterprise._ Like classic "rayguns" of yesteryear (& I don't mean the ST chronology.)
The writers once again forget that Vulcans are a lot stronger than Humans and T'pol ought to have been able to flip that guy without a problem instead of ineffectually struggling. At least they didn't make things worse. These early phase pistols didn't have any area-effect stun like the phasers from TOS onward would have.
To be fair to the writers, the Vulcan strength thing was most likely born of a need for plot convenience with Spock and he was the token alien so he got the inhuman abilities.
@@HitodamaKyrie - Yeah, but that just means that it has been canon since the 1960's and we do see the same with other Vulcans such as Tuvok.
Also, this must have been different writers than the ones who once showed T'pol giving a Vulcan martial arts class to members of the NX-01 crew.
But you forgot that phaser can be set not only kill mode, it can be set to unconscious mode too. For XIX century cowboy its looks like "You kill her".
@@prasaite - "Stun" is one of the most forgotten phaser settings. Especially since the TOS episode "A Piece of the Action" showed that the *Enterprise's* phasers could be used to stun several city blocks from orbit!
So, while I extend minor kudos to the writers here, this whole scene would have worked better with a woman who wasn't a Vulcan.
@@daniels7907 Maybe but not by me. I'm 40+ old so i much more offten saw stun phasers in action than killing actions. It's a Star Trek not Star Wars for god sake, in Star Trek die only guys in red uniforms.
Did the writers forget she's Vulcan or something And should have been perfectly fine taking care of him herself?
Guess they wanted Reed to look cool and save the girl.
Even a Vulcan can't out run a chemically propelled bullet. Any actions she take could end up with a hole In her skull. Reed outsmarted him by using the stun setting confusing the baddie into thinking he offed her
@@lionsjourney29 I meant the fact that she's twice as strong as he and has faster reflexes. If he's looking at Malcolm by the time he has time to react to her he would no longer have a gun to threaten anyone with. The writers of Star Trek have a history of forgetting the strengths and weaknesses of their alien species when it comes to making human characters matter in stories, then restore those same features when ever it suits there need.
And she has extensive combat training. 🤦♂️
@@marcning918 it doesnt matter how fast her reflexes are if by using that superior strength she causes an accidental discharge by jostling him.
“That was for that Vulcan neck pinch!”
I like the episode "Shattered" from Voyager where the ship is split into different time periods and Chakotay has to make it all normal again. At the end of the episode Seska, who exists in a different time period, tries to take Janeway hostage, but Chakotay is prepared for it and unleashes Borgified 7 of 9 on her.
Voyager had alot of great storylines. The Hirogen arc was fun and the Doctor's episode "Tinker, Taylor, Doctor, Spy" was hilarious. And I thought Picardo did an amazing job of acting in the episode where he had a conflict that his programming couldn't reconcile.
@@Stuff_And_Things You're right about that, but I was trying to think more about episodes that had hostage situations like the video.
From what I remember Seven wasn't "Borgifed" it was a pre-unassimilated Seven from the "Scorpion" time period who took out Seska, otherwise you're right
@andrewmalinowski, of course you’re right but I was trying to use simple terms.
@@keithtorgersen9664 I haven't seen the episode for a while, but it always stuck out in my mind. It's not a problem, but the episode did get a callback in one of the "Full Circle" novels of Voyager with an alternate Janeway
She won't be angry. It was the logical thing to do.
t'pol waking up like 'damn that was logical'
i like how the cowboy looks up at him like, "wtf bro!"
LOL Malcom, you know he kinda enjoyed that 🤣
Well....that was unexpected LMAO 🤣
Imagine he accidently set it to vaporize. XD
"Ops. Wrong setting. Well... i didn't liked her anyway."^^
@@Anthyrion he definitely liked her bum.
Sh. It happens!
@@Anthyrion he definitely liked her. At least part of her. 🍑
I don't think phase pistols have a vaporize setting.
Phasers on stun. ;)
She's a Vulcan. She's strong. Why would she need help with that idiot?
I'm pretty sure that only applies when dramatically useful, like Roger Rabbit being able to get out of handcuffs "only when it is funny".
:grins: I was thinking much the same when that cowboy fellow fanged hold of her - my initial reaction was "That's a mistake, dude!" :D
@@dj1NM3 But, but. Vulcans don't do funny!
Because bullets beat strength.
When you have non-lethal, you can make more use of the hotshot's pop quiz.
Wait, she was a hostage?....l guess l won't get in trouble THIS time.
Still one of my favorite episodes.
When you have a weapon that can stun, there’s really no reason not to shoot first and ask questions later.
Guess Trip ain’t gettin any tonight…..🤣
But it did work….lol
That's what stun setting is for
Mr. Reed: bah, I always hate her
Enterprise was such great show. Ppl have too much flack, when was really good at least when compared first 2 season of picard. Wasn’t till season 3 Picard finally got good. Wish they bring Enterprise back. But we all know that will never happen.
Phasers set to stun!
If you really think about it logically, he didn't have to stun T'pol first. He could have just stunned the bad guy.
However, lieutenant Reed always had the hots for T'pol, specifically her butt!
I think this orthodox tactical maneuver was his way of trying to get some of that Vulcan butt! 🤩
Luv it! I haven't seen this episode, but I'll bet T'Pol said that it was the logical thing to do.
If she was a Human Woman...GAWD save Malcolm!
One of the many instances in the show where T'pol was depicted as having no more physical strength than a typical human female of her stature. I guess the famed Vulcan physical strength only applies to male Vulcans?
Oh ok.... Kinda explains why he's single. If Star Trek had Facebook. Malcolm was definitely not on her friends list.
Ahhhhh yes, saw similar storyline in original Star Trek…..then again on STTNG, did they do it also in deep space 9? Surprised this went beyond one season.
you see with stun you really can shoot first and ask questions later
Archer: Jesus Christ Reed, why would you shoot when he had a gun to her head!?
Reed: Well I figured Id stun her, and then while he was confused Id stun him after.
Archer: WELL HE DIDNT KNOW YOU WERE SHOOTING AT HER AND PUT A BULLET THROUGH HER HEAD!
Reed: Ah.. eto.. bleh! 🙅♂️
Star trek voyager
Prisoner takes emh hostage
Tuvok shoots thru the doctor
episode
REPENTANCE
As I recall due to how it affected his system the EMH "Joe" was annoyed afterwards, but mostly didn't care
Star Trek and Warehouse should really have employed this kind of thinking more.
You've got a ray gun that stuns people with minimal consequence. Fire at will!
His weapon has pinpoint accuracy and focus, so why shoot her first? 😂
In fairness bullets don't have a stun selector...
Star Trek’s Kaiser Soza.
at 0:04 is she smiling.
She likes being taken captive
Lmfao 😂
This is why Klingons don’t take prisoners… 😉
😂
What exactly are these "suits" supposed to hide???
What episode?
It's in the description
WTF?! 🤣
It was on stun
Aren't Vulcans like three times stronger than humans?
And bullet from that revolver can easly kill even more stronger creature.
I always thought Vulcans were much stronger than humans?
But still weaker than bullet from the gun
Bruh face.
Which Star Trek is this? What number are we up to? Why is that guy dressed like a cowboy from the 1850s, doesn't he know hats are not in at the moment?!
He stole that from Keanu.
Firing on your commanding officer?? That is a serious offence...I think even in the utopian world of star trek, they may still give the death penalty or life in prison
The weapon was set on stun
T'Pol: Dude, you SHOT me!
That’s how Israel does it
More lazy writing. T'Pol is not only stronger than a human woman would be, she's also a martial artist, so she could've easily taken him out.
Arent Vulcans like 3 times stronger than humans. She couldve just crushed his forearm with her hands....
