A little correction at 2:45 - MÁV class 470 (former class 1047) has a top speed of only 160 km/h due to the lack of necessary safety systems like LZB or ETCS. However they are technically capable of the higher speed but only when they are not the leading engine (for example second locomotive in a double set of Railjets or pushing a Railjet stock, but that only happened once in their twenty years so far). However GySEV class 470's can run at 230 km/h as they were originally fitted with the LZB system.
Actually, ZSSK class 362 can speed up to 140 kmph. The 120 kmph version of this loco is labeled as Class 363. There is also 160 kmph version labeled as Class 361. All of these can be seen in charge of Košice - Budapest services. :)
✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
I love the squeaking sound of the coaches while departing from the station ❤
I recommend taking the Corona train from Budapest to Brașov in Romania. It is one of the few trains in Europe with a dining car in use opened non stop through the night all the way to the destination
It's definitely on my to-do list!

Budapest - Kassa nagyon szép két város 💗🤍💚💯💯💯
We have this tradition in our family that every time we visit Poland or Hungary, we take the PKP ICC sleeper train to go between Kraków and Budapest. I love that route and is one of my favorites.
I went on this route in March, the Hungarian loco was I think V43 type, and Slovak loco was 362 like here, and in Kosice I changed to an osobny vlak to Poprad to the mountains , together with some local Slovak babushkas ❤️ who helped me a lot with checking if I boarded the right train bc I wasn't sure.
(bounces along happily)
What amazing places! That's a cool train, with its wrap (great to have a loco you can read while waiting), but the Fisherman's Bastion wins!
Indeed it does! 😄
Great video. I took the night train from Split to Budapest this summer and it was an amazing experience. The dining car had good food and draft beer for really cheap prices. I can highly recommend this trip.
Was it very late ?
@@bernardbouzon5499 about 60 min, not too bad for a night train
I definitely plan to do that soon 🙂
In the last two weeks I have taken the overnight sleeper/motor-rail service between Bratislava and Kosice twice (4 trips) on ZSSK. Basic but saves a long drive. Usually go on to Humane but the track is being relaid between Michalovce and Humane. Electrification is also happening to save having to change locos at Kosice.
Great video, but I would like to correct some information about this train. The train's name is Hernád-Zemplén Intercity, it is a combination of 2 Intercity trains. At Miskolc-Tiszai the 2 Intercity train are detached. The first 3 carriage ( sometimes 2) goes to Kosice ( usually the red, slovakian carriages) and this train will be called Hernád Intercity, the last 3 carriage ( or sometimes 5 or 6 carriage) goes to Sátoraljaújhely ( and this train will be called Zemplén Intercity), which is at the border with Slovakia as well as Hidasnémeti, but Hidasnémeti served by the Hernád Intercity, and not to mention the fact that the Hernád is an international train, the Zemplén is not.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi, you know who I am, but I left my Delorean in the garage and I packed my clothes into a luggage today 'cause next Thursday I'll go on holiday to the town of Matalascañas, known for its beaches, being just next to the Doñana National Park and some kilometres away from Nuestra Señora del Rocío's Sanctuary, one of the best sanctuaries all over Spain and its pilgrimage, which is, in my opinion, the second most important pilgrimage in Spain.
P.S: The most important pilgrimage in Spain is my town's one, Spain's oldest and greatest, the Virgen de la Cabeza's Pilgrimage.
It's been 4 & ½ years since I went on holiday to a beach town, but I promised myself going to the beach once a year or in early September or by the end of April
Nice review! I'll take that train the next time. Regarding your question about EC trains. I took the EC Citadella From Budapest to Ljubljana, wich had similar issues. No wifi, no dining car and even no first class seats nor power sockets. But it offered stunning vieuws for 6 hours 😊
That's always a plus point 😍
Meanwhile the last time I took an EC train was in 2017 (run by Alex between Prague-Berlin) & there wasn't Wi-Fi either, while the CD trainset I rode from Munich-Prague had Wi-Fi only after crossing the border from Germany into Czechia/Czech Republic
It funny how the eurosprinter "sings" it's way out after decoupling before entering Slovakia. Listen carefully :))
Beautiful isn't it 😍
I saw a video of a cab ride in Hungary and the train was hauled by this locomotive. I didn't know what loco it was at the time so I nicknamed it "The Music Train". Thanks for letting me know what it was called.
I enjoyed watching this Hungarian train journey video. Very informative and beautiful country side
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
From Kosice to Margecany 20 km north and then the mountain line via Telgart Loop and Brezno to Banska Bystrica and Zvolen
Great shout!
Beautiful ! Worth watching. Greetings from Port Saint Lucie Florida. Here's a train video worth watching as well: Roamin' around with Roman! He films in Wisconsin and Minnesota and Michigan.
I'll check it out!
Great video, greetings from Hungary! 😀
About the dining car: in Hungary this train runs only as an InterCity train, but in Slovakia as a EuroCity so it's an interesting question... technically it should carry a dining car at least on the slovakian part, but considering that it's maybe only 5% of the route... let's just say, hungarian logic 😂
This is common across Hungary. The non Railjet (ie even hours from Vienna) Vienna - Budapest trains are in a similar situation with most having no catering provision.
Ok thanks!
Tbh even if the trip from Budapest was classified as euro city then there probably wouldn’t be any dining car because ZSSK can’t even find enough dining cars for their fast trains between Bratislava and Košice
I don't think the loadings would justify more than a trolley service.
@@fussyboy2000 tbh having a dining car is always better because of the convenience of anybody can use at anytime as opposed to a trolley which in this case would be probably used like once during the trip and many people would be left out of the service
Nice video, I traveled at the beginning of summer with this train from Budapest to Kosice and it was exactly as shown. And now, this "virtual trip" gave me a lot of pleasure, remembering the first one!
Great to hear!
This is good, thanks. Hope you have time for the Wroclaw-Gorlitz trip to be ready this month...
Unfortunately not sorry, but I haven't forgotten it!
I have actually travelled that same route in 1993, but in the other direction and on only local trains. It was still direct to Budapest. A few years earlier I also traelled this route but on a nighttrain from Kraków to Budapest via Kisice, but didnt see anything because of the night, of course. I've been travelling a lot by train in Europe in the 90s.
Thanks for sharing 😊
Great video !!
Thanks!
The train is only cheap, especially in 1st class, if you book a saver fare. For example, if you have a 2nd class InterRail Pass and would like to change class, the Hungarian train staff will apply the international tariff. This is at least twice as expensive as the domestic tariff. This train used to have GDR compartment cars with thick upholstered seats and opening windows. The Slovakian 1st class open-plan carriage therefore offers little comfort compared to the 1st class Plus carriage from the Hungarian railway (MAV Start AG).
362 363 are from the same loco family as the CZ 371/372 Deutsche Reichsbahn Baureihe 230 DB Baureihe 180 Knödelpress. If the former Czechoslovakian railway line to Hungary was 3kv DC and is bound to Berlin via Dresden the MAV 470 ÖBB Baureihe 1116 DB Baureihe 182 is replaced by the 371/372 180🇩🇪 from there to Berlin via Dresden
Knödelpress 🤣
Oooookkkkkk
Proper train, proper trip. Agree some kind of onboard catering would improve it immeasurably..
Absolutely Mark!
This train is actually TWO InterCity trains in Hungary: the Hernád-Zemplén InterCity. The Slovakian cars go to Kosice while the Hungarian cars go to Sátoraljaújhely. The two trains decouple at Miskolc-Tiszai. Furthermore, both trains act as an ordinary passenger train at some parts of the route (Miskolc - Hidasnémeti and Szerencs - Sátoraljaújhely). That's why they don't have a dining car. There are not so many passengers who cross the border, especially on weekdays.
Amazing vid! highly reccomend trying Polish Regional Rail (KW , KS , KM , KL , KL2 , KZP , KP , KW2 , KD , KM)
I've done a few of them 🤪
Yes, the bathroom. Very important.
Absolutely 💯
I took the EC connection from Munich to Bologna in December. That's operated by ÖBB, and it also doesn't have a dining car or wifi.
It should have...
Actually, it's pronounced 'Košice'... 🙄
As stated in the video
10:50 MÁV calls most express trains to forign countries EC as long as they feature 1st class

I did this same route just over a month ago but on the 8.30am service and indeed the barriers were all down at Keleti. My main problem with it was that it's a Eurocity service but no dining car. Of course I was able to get a coffee and food from one of the various outlets at Keleti but still...
LOL not surprisingly my 8.30am was a lot more full than your earlybird service. Maybe that's the reason, camera in hand, you took that one eh? 😀
Yeah sad there no dining car!
There is a special train in hungary the 560 it has a special compostion with 1+ being avelible and its runs between budapest keleti and nyugati you should do a review on it
Well the 560 also not so special. This Circle IC between Keleti and Nyugati on a 540km long route via Nyiregyhaza is also a 2-hourly service, with the Bistro car and premium class available on all trains.
I tried to take it but the carriage type didn't show up!
Great trip. Bit curious about the historical thing painted at MAV Locomotive, also bit curious about why the Hungarian flag having hole at that livery.
It is to signify removal of the communist coat of arms on the flag
@@NonstopEurotrip ahh i see.
The livery was made for the 60th anniversary of the 1956 anti-communist hungarian revolution.

7:20 This coach is a former Austrian 'CityShuttle' coach, put into service in the early 1990s
10:58 No WiFi, because it is rolling stock from the 1990s and earlier, with only a little bit of refurbishing since then.
Many coaches from the 80s and 90s have been retrofitted with WiFi to meet EuroCity specs
I haven't seen a video of the ZSSK sleeper from Kosice or Humenne on your channel. Thought you might have taken that after visiting Eastern Slovakia.
No I took the fast train to Bratislava 😎
It‘s pronounced „Ko-shy-tse“ but thanks for the report 😄
Or use the original Hungarian names of such places and watch the comment section explode :D
Beautiful journey
Thanks a lot 👍
Good video 😊
Thanks 😁
I'm not too sure how this is 'secret', given tickets are readily available for the regular 2 hourly service, however all in all a top video as ever.
I assume he means it's "secret" because most people think of Pressburg (Bratislava, Pozsony) when they think of international trains from Bp. to Slovakia. Cassovia (Košice) is too little known and yet it's much more interesting and beautiful than Pressburg.
Exactly ✌🏻
@@NonstopEurotrip OK I see. Shame that you got a Taurus rather than the usual V43 on these services, although the 0625 is unusually scheduled to be a Traxx
the 2-hourly service is quite recent, a few years back, there were only 2 trains a day from Košice to Hungary... BTW, I agree that Košice is a nice city. I also liked Miskolc, btw. And it has a fun little tourist railway nearby (LAEV).
Not even the "well travelled" are familiar with Košice, nor anywhere in Slovakia outside Bratislava for the matter. So in some ways, it's still a secret.
and does it make sense to add a restaurant for 3 hours of travel? moreover, there were only a few passengers in the carriage.
EuroCity trains should have one or they can't be called EuroCity
@@NonstopEurotrip and in your opinion, who has a greater need for this train to be called EuroCity? Slovakia or EuroCity?
@@NonstopEurotrip its not eurocity anymore so they solved that problem i guess

Thank you for this great and very informative video. Can you also make a video about "Emona Express" another Eurocity train running between Vienna (AUT) and Trieste (ITA) via Ljublanna (SLO). Also you may consider to emphsize night trains more often. Thank you for your kind efforts.
Great suggestion!
It's "Kosheetsay", not "Koseecha", please.
N.B.: as for Miskolc, don't be scared, it's not tricky at all: it's simply "Mishkolts".
In both cases, all the sounds of these words exist in English, so no reason to be scared 🙂
It's actually Koshitza
@@NonstopEurotrip It's a short AY (I Mean, shorter than an English AY) but I'm not sure how to translitterate it for an English-speaker, as I'm not one. A Slovak and Czech E without accent is a short English AY.
@@majy1735I don't think English has that sound. It's like an э.
@@NonstopEurotripKoshitsэ, not Koshitza. The ts is soft, not hard, and the end sound is a short e.
Košice is easy. But Mezőkövesd? 🫣

Any way one could select the airline style seats when booking first class online? I got the compartment, and I remember struggling with space because I have nowhere to put my big luggage.
Unfortunately not, unless you try and request a specific seat at the ticket office, but I've not done that before!
Does not look handicapped accessible. Would a steward take a mobility scooter or wheelchair as cargo? Did the station have steps?
Don't put any money on it.
I'm not sure tbh, but Keleti is step free. The train, not so.
@@NonstopEurotrip That is good to know! TY!
Would love if you checked out the new hungarian IC+ (premium) Trains
Maybe one day 👀
@@NonstopEurotrip Even the new 2 class IC cars as good as the older 1st class trains (They have really comfy seats, family compartments, and overall look pretty decent) It would be nice if we got some track renevations, since most tracks have a speed limit of 120, while some trains can go up to 240km/h
Let me take a wild guess. EC Hornád?
Great videos. I recomend you to visit my country argentina we still have a few long distance trains, some with bedrooms cars: the old patagonic express with steam locomotives. The normal express from viedma to bariloche that have a mix of ancient FA (ferrocarriles argentinos) era, hitachi and local materfer cars, and also portuguese made Sorefame. The tren a las nubes, a short travel in a famous high mountain track. More actual trains are chinese CCR cars Constitucion- Mar Del Plata (very enjoyable) Retiro-Rosario, Retiro-Cordoba, and if you are brave the extremely slow Retiro-Tucuman for at last 40 hours trip!. Hurry up, the actual administration are against any public service to the people, that includes trains, hospitals, science, universities and more, because all they are "expensive". Now are closed Once-Pehuajo, Once-J Daract-Palmira, and no news about Constitucion-Bahia Blanca (no plans to reactivate)

I find the super nationalistic loco amusing on an international route. Ive never ridden ZSSK, but they seem to offer very good and affordable services
Until the border anyway 🤣
Service on ZSSK can be pretty good on mainlines though it suffers from lots of delays and rolling stock issues rn. But it’s slowly but surely getting better
@@CreatorPolarespecially the south is painful
@@czechmatebro tbh the south is doing better than the north, personal experience. Most regional routes in the south run modern air conditioned multiple units or carriages meanwhile 99% of regional lines in the north still run shitty old rail cars and are tragically slow. On the other hand the mainlines are on par with eachother
@@CreatorPolar well it's only on the lines Bratislava-Štúrovo, Bratislava-Zvolen. the rest is often server by class 810 and the R Gemeran and R Urpín often get over 40 minute delays.

Try earning a Slovak or Hungarian salary and you'll see what I mean. There is some country in Europe that didn't want to pay the membership fee for the European Union. Amd didn't like Schengen like between Hungary and Slovakia. They stepped out of the club, but still wanted free drinks from the club. Believe it's the UK and the membership broken was called 'Brexit'.
