    I took this train tens of times, most often it's doing it's job, but lately I avoided it due to the construction work on Bekecsaba-Lokoshaza and delays/bus replacement, I was taking my car instead (I bet many people do the same and that's why the train was empty).... it's good if the train is back, hopefully it becomes more reliable and faster in the future.... Schengen will be a great help.

    From 7:00 to 7:30 that is called a "Fast-Freight" (crude translation from hungarian). This freight train runs is pairs, between Miskolc-Tiszai Station and Ferencváros Station. Most of the times, it is carried by the ÖBB 1116s or their nem chinese loco. But my apologies, it isn't that, based on the Station Sülysáp.

      @@eurocopter2fred Noone tells them 060-ED, as CFR adopted the UIC numbering scheme a lot of years before. And "class 47" was never used for these, as they were numbered 0477 (160 km version) and 0476 (the 120 km version) from the beginning. Also, CFR Marfă somehow named their modernized locos ED, but those are modernized by a different company.

    I love Romania and have spent a lot of time there with friends. But, one year ago when we tried the sleeper car from Budapest to Bucharest, we found the bathrooms to be extremely dirty with even one toilet overflowing. I love taking trains, but it seems that Romania (CFR) is not taking measures to properly maintain its cars.

    • @davidcobra1735
      @davidcobra1735 2 месяца назад +8

      CFR has been severely underfunded since 1989. Their budget is almost zero. They've bought no locomotives in 30 years and the infrastructure in Romania is by far the worst in the EU. Average train speed in Romania is now only 18mph. That's a little slower than the average speed in the 1920's. The number of passengers taking trains has decreased by an order of several times just in the last 10 years. That's just the sad reality here.

    To expand a bit on the Hungarian engine you were pulled by, the V43, nowadays class 430 was the first MAV locomotive to be fitted with a silicone diode rectifier, earning it its Hungarian nickname "Szili". The type code means V for "Villamosmozdony" - electric locomotive, 4 for the number of axles and 3 meaning it is the 3rd 4 axle electric locomotive. The original, later renamed 1000 series because of their V43 1xxx numbering scheme (nowadays after standardization class 431) locomotives are still used as the backbone of Hungarian regional and low priority-intercity traffic. These locos were manufactured in the 60s, the first 10 in Germany, the latter ones locally. The 2000 series (class 432) is a refit of a few 1000 series locos to be able to work in a push-pull configuration with hungarian made control cars and other UIC compliant digital control systems. The ultimate version of the locomotive was the 3000 series (class 433). It is a deep refit of about 30 of the original locos made in the late 00s. These machines received new traction electronics, GPS and GSM-R equipment, a new drivers desk and compatibility upgrades to be able to work in dual traction and ZWS push-pull operation alongside numerous other UIC compatibility improvements.

    Assuming both trains have same top speed, allowing the freight to pass you may be because it will not be stopping at the next station but both trains need to get back on same track to clear the other one for oncoming traffic. Normally freight trains always have lower speed limit though and that reduces any opportunities where a freight train would benefit in overtaking a passenger one unless passenger is commuter train that stops all the time.

    It's actually super rare to see a freight train overtaking a passenger train in Hungary. I've never seen anything like it here, and I live and have been traveling here very extensively. Almost all the time freight trains are stopped at a station to let passenger trains pass and they move very slowly during the day because of the frequency of passenger trains. My best guess is that the freight train was in the way and control decided to quickly let the freight train take over your train so it can be taken into a siding quicker to avoid congestions on the line. This train is probably just a low priority so this is my best guess.

    Great!! ARF The Romanian Railway Authority was created to develop the railway in Romania as the train remains the safest means of transport to travel in Romania.
    January 29, 2024: ARF purchases 16 Alstom TRAXX MS3 locomotives. Alstom will deliver up to 40 interregional electric trains for the Coradia Stream trains for CFR. Unfortunately, the network is in poor condition, which severely limits the maximum possible speeds, but since the time of Nicolae Ceaușescu, the network, which remains one of the largest in Europe, 11,430 km, has continued to improve.

      @@TravelbyRails It's called LEMA or Transmontana, class 480, it was made at Softronic Craiova and at the moment there are ~90 units made. It is the successor of the 060-EA (they have the same chassis). Now CFR călători have only the LEMA 480-001 (I know it looks different but it's just the older variant). They now made a "modernisation" from the 060-EAs for CFR călători. They took old EAs and used only the chassis, then they built a new LEMA with new equipment on the old chassis. If you want to see the first LEMA search on your browser LEMA 001 (needs to be something blue slightly different than the one in the video above) and if you want to see the new ones search for LEMA 481 001.

  • @transportromania
    @transportromania 2 месяца назад +1

    2:49 - the Hungarian coaches don't go to Romania. Also, if you travel in those coaches, you don't pay IC supplement. And the thing is the same with most IC trains in Hungary - they have both IC and non-IC coaches. Of course, you get A/C and electric sockets only in the IC coaches, so if you want these, you pay the supplement. If you don't... you can triver like it's 1975.
    14:50 - the V43 has no INDUSI or PZB system, so it can't run in Romania. There was a convention for some trains to be hauled by MAV Traxx locos and Romanian class 477 locos (like the one taking your train from Curtici), but Hungarians are not huge fans of 6 axles locomotives. Eventually, they asked the loco to be able to block the doors of the coaches, which class 477 aren't. But the number of axles and the high amount of miniature national flags that Romanian train drivers like to add in their locos were probably the true reason.
    As regards for pairing the trains, it is a MAV imposed rule as each train that arrives in Curtici to have it's pair there already. This also go for freight... and untill 2nd track was open, a "pairless" freight train, even if ti had an interoperable loco, was forced to wait for a pairless train from the opposite direction, even a day.

I am ashamed of the state of our romanian ones, although these from the video are not that old, being produced in 2006-2007. Everything is dirty and sometimes also the AC doesn't work. You were lucky that it worked. Maybe it was because CFR tries to use the best coaches and locomotives for international trains, especially those that go west. This is the Maros/Mures half InterCity in hungarian part. In nowadays many lines going to the trains in this way. But the first one is the 140 from Budapest-Nyugati to Szeged railway line. If the train have been the first class Intercity car, than the InterCity section seeing to the main station. In this train is simpe consist, because the Intercity section standed from CFR cars and the hungarians are the fast train coaches. The other hungarian lines, where you find hald Intercity trains (I write with local timetable number): 20 and 25 from Budapest-Déli to Szombately or Zalaegerszeg. 29 and 30 from Budapest-Déli to Tapolca or Keszthely, Nagykanizsa, Gyékényes and to Croatia. 80 from Budapest-keleti to Sátoraljaújhely.
