This is a small clip from a session I had with Owls where we went over how to deal with fast weapons. We talked about the advantages of fast weapons in a duel setting, and how someone using a much slower weapon can overcome them.
In Chivalry 2, smaller quick weapons usually underperform, but in an isolated duel they can be very frustrating to deal with. But with a mixture of ripostes and proper reading, you can handle them easily.
If you have any questions, or would like me to go over another topic leave a comment below.
Man, it's hard to believe he's gone and this is where it all started. None of us knew he was that bad off. RIP Dave. You're dearly missed.
WTF HE PASSED AWAY?!?!
@@Hello-sw3en He killed himself. this is what i read plz go check to be sure maybe im wrong but thats what i read from reviews on steam.
it was sad to hear about his passing. i only watched a few of his vids before, but i’ve decided to watch through all his guides lately and it’s crazy how much i’ve improved from his tips. he will be dearly missed by the community, but the silver lining is that he has and will forever continue to help us players learn and improve. it may just be a videogame, and strangers on the internet, but he’s left a legacy. that’s pretty remarkable. thanks for everything dave
If your using any long arm weapon you need to get comfortable with crouching before your attack comes out so you can stay at a distance. Doing that keeps you from lunging forward & getting closer than what you'd ideally want to be
That's a good tip!
A real good tip!
That's what was bothering me a lot in the greatsword v dagger (and comparable weapons) MU.
wow that just changed the game for me thank you good sir!

Out of all the chivelry 2 players i watch what I find so impressive and amazing is your ability to sometimes just do nothing and wait for their response. Its like when a fighter stops perfectly out of range from a punch and doesnt defend himself or even move cause he knows he doesnt need to do anything to avoid being hit
Why avoid an attack that'll miss anyway haha
@@SoterDaveIt is legitimately impressive though. Sometimes doing nothing creates an insane amount of pressure. That’s definitely something I struggle with; I feel like I always need to be acting, whether it’s defensively or offensively.
Wow would love to see more ! Was this a paid coaching session or giving tips to a friend ? edit: just read the description, I guess it's a paid 1:1 coaching session
This was a session, but Owls is already a member of the competitive community and we've fought together a few times before this, so it was a little more casual.
Really glad I found your channel. I don't feel like I have plateaued yet at level 40 and am enjoying the improving process, but ill definitely hit you up when I get to level 100! Thanks for all the informative videos.
Glad I could be of assistance!
idky but 5:20 drinking his soda with pinky out like it's high tea is just funny in the middle of giving lessons.
7-Eleven slurpee is high class as it gets, tbh
That is a clean side step at 3:15
Paid coaching? Very interesting indeed. I am level 170 and I don’t think I have improved since hitting level 150ish. In terms of dueling, I almost always beat folks under level 150, 50/50 between 150 and my level and mostly lose to higher levels. When facing extremely good duelists I can tel almost immediately that I will lose. I have a good feel for the game but can’t stop holding blocks, dealing with jabs, and footwork/range issues particularly against long/fast weapons.
Your ability to just more or less stand there and wait for the other guy to get tired out is amazing. But I am guessing this tactic doesn’t work on high level duelists. The funny thing is I also have a very hard time dealing with the weapon combo you are using here. It’s insanely frustrating even low levels can sometimes beat me with it.
Very interesting though, I love dueling in this game. It’s such an art. I watch all these videos and have all these plans and tactics but as mike Tyson said, everyone has a plan until they’re punched in the face. My plans go out the window the moment I start to struggle and some bad habits take over
I'm sure you can improve as long as you know where you need work. But if you're interested, you can always come back to me!
this is the content we all needed
I'm glad you think so!

Hi Dave , for top tier duelists , are they all playing on first person? Or they stick to 3rd , I feel like first person allows you to have a better understanding of the range , and easier to react to attacks ,
Great vid
Thank you for the kind words. Most top-tier duelists play third person and there is a multitude of reasons why.
For me, 3rd person is really good for situational awareness and catching people with the very end of my swings, but it's kinda difficult to aim stabs and overheads.
@@TheKingOfJordan1 nothing wrong with playing both perspectives, changing between them mid combat to accommodate the weaknesses of either.
Go over how to get preferential netcode ticks!
Will do!
Great video. Keep doing more of these please!
For sure! Will do
great video! thanks for the tips
no prob bob

Dope stuff man! Very informative. Do you play on the West Coast duel servers? I swearrr I got stomped on by Owl and a dude throwing knives at me 🤣
Edit: If you are playing outside the "turn based combat" would you be more aggressive in a non instructional gameplay? Or is the playstyle reserved for patience and capitalizing on openings?
Big War club main and on Ps5
I have played on West servers before, lol. thank you very much for the feedback! Also, War Club is dope!
@@SoterDave damn you!! Don't go teaching those 1v1 monsters on WC Duel anything else, god help me If I start seeing servers full of Ambushers
Thanks for this video! Been getting my ass handed to me against rapiers and cudgels when playing as knight lol. I’ll have to put these tips into practice
best of luck!
I mentioned footwork in another of your video’s comments, I play on Xbox series x and feel like I cannot out footwork opponents, especially if they are on PC. My character just doesn’t walk fast enough, which forces me to waist stamina using backward dodges.
It's a learned skill. It depends on the weapon matchup, classes being played, map geometry, attacks used, and much more. You can't footwork everything
@@SoterDave any thoughts on Exponential vs Dynamic? I’ve also set my Xbox Elite Controller sticks to an Instant response curve to see if it helps with footwork.
@@aaronpoisson no idea what either are. Again, I deeply apologize but I have no experience with controller gaming on chivalry to give any real feedback. Although, I can direct you to some extremely competent controller players
powerful mustache dave

I still try to emulate old school Soter Dave. Your defensive skill with the knife even a year ago was based.
Lol thank you. I love the Knife!
Imo the fact that blocking a large slow weapon with a smaller fast weapon costs so little stamina is a error. Blocking a great sword with a Dagger should drop in 2 tops.
Stamina damage is solely determined by the weapon that attacks, not the weapon that defends. There are a few exceptions, like shields and such, but generally that is the rule.
great content and advice
I'm glad it helped!
Good advice
Glad you think so!
Gud. OCE tournament soon
Can't wait!
Lmao I dueled the tro guys
They're pretty good. 😎
RIP
Learning so much
I'm glad!
Is that dude Isac from Ask Yourself?
Nope!
great advices
thanks!
So what do I do with a Maul in such situation? :D
I like bonk people, but 1v1 can be very painful vs fast weapons especially
Same principles apply.
range and disguise attacks more if its a real slow weapon but tbh if i see someone with a fast weapon i usually switch to my fast weapon 😁
good video will try to incorporate more neutral stuff
Thank you.
do i need to be first person to fight more effectively like this?
No.
Cucurbitofwar is the master with a dagger
I would love to meet him on the battlefield!
@@SoterDave he's in europe tho, so that might not be for today :(
@@Morbak546 a little latency never hurt nobody! 😼
Impressive.
Thanks!
why u gotta be so cute today
Unfortunately, I was born this way 😞

This was the first video of you I saw. Can you explain the advantage the dagger has over a rapier for example ? It has the same damage and speed but less range and doesn't have a shield with it. Vanguard also has less HP than footman.
In a duel? No advantage. In Team Objective? The Dagger grants you 7 throwing knives which can be used to make up for your lack of range, and you do 50% increased damage to the back. This allows you to one shot Vanguards and Footmen when using the special!
@@SoterDave yep meant in a duel. I guess maybe just the extra stamina but clearly not worth it. Alright thanks !
@@RB028 Depending on your playstyle, the special attack on the Dagger may suit you better. I'm also a fan of throwing knives in duels.
