    It's worth pointing out that in The End and the Death, Horus (admittedly not the most reliable narrator by this point) claims that the Emperor was Alexander the Great. As such, the Bucephalus would have been the Emperor's horse. There is certainly something entertaining and very, very human about naming an enormous ship after your horse that died over 30,000 years ago. Must have been one hell of a horse.

    The logical reason for melee combat in 40K is that swords don’t need ammo. People/ships can only carry so much. I think an even more logical reason is that when you have power armour, teleporters, jump packs, personal force fields, and psychic barriers it seems that in certain situations the ability to attack someone with a technologically enhanced meele weapon is more powerful than shooting as once you close the distance then you cant shoot and theres the aspect that you cant really put yourself into a ranged weapon in the same manner as you can with a meele weapon.

    I really love space combat in 40k. I think it's unintentionally kind of plausible. With the ranges involved (up to thousands of kilometers) the only way to guarantee a hit would be to use near-sentient fire control and guidance systems. This is a big no-no in the imperium, so ships instead are fitted with massive shotguns (aka macrobatteries) which have a reasonable certainty of at least one round hitting the target even at range, and blowing out it's butthole up close. Of course, GW was just going for Age of Sail in space, but it makes some sense

      @jakeg3733 Год назад

      @@сесьсясь You're missing my point. We aren't talking about a battle at sea, tens or maybe hundreds of km. FC computers aren't forbidden in and of themselves, what I'm talking about is something capable of dealing with engaging moving targets that are constantly making evasive maneuvers at a distance many times the diameter of our entire planet. While your ship is doing the same, and likely with a significant amount of crap between your two ships. You can make a gun that fires that distance easily (no friction, but gravity wells definitely an issue), and you could also hit a target easily that was moving on a constant vector and speed... but to do it in combat conditions you'd need a very sophisticated computer, capable of at least some degree of heuristics to have a high probability of hitting with one round. Full-on sentience? Not quite, but the Imperium and especially AdMech is so terrified of anything even resembling AI that it would never happen. The best alternative is to just put a shitload of rounds downrange, over and over again. Some will hit

    So, a Volkite weapon is a heatray that can heat someone up so fast that they insta-die, then turn into a white hot cinder that can cook their buddies to death just from the residual heat.
    Hand-held weapons.
    But the Emperor had one as the MAIN GUN on a 30 plus kilometer WARSHIP?!
    Nice fleet you've got there. It would be too bad if your flagship turned into a momentary star and... flame broiled half your fleet...

    The invincible class seems to be a nod to the British class of battlecruisers in ww1. Heavy firepower, weak armour, with 3 battlecruisers (not all that specific class) being lost at Jutland.

    So, incidentally, the Rogue Trader line of the Fantasy Flight Games RPG 40k books was my favorite of those lines, and since many Rogue Traders are defined by the ship that carries them through the void, a number of those books feature various classes of asorted starships. This was like a wonderful little jaunt through those, and I enjoyed it greatly! 😁 My own personal Rogue Trader has a severely upticked Tyrant class cruiser, sporting melta torpedoes and plasma cannons, escorted by a fellow torpedo-loaded Destroyer. I'm also a fan of various carrier-style ships, though not as fond of what the Imperium carries as starfighters.
    I miss the BFG game, and was hoping it would see a small resurgence when Chaos' big push involved it's Arks if Omen, and while I know many fans prefer ground battles, and glorious melee combat, I'm really a fan of some space battles, and the flying space cities, launching explosive-filled hab blocks at each other, in between epic ground engagements.

    The admech still have the full Luna crusier STC witch is why they are so numerouse as they can be constructed with ease, it is also worth it to mention that nearly all the classes of crusier that the imperium feild are offshoots of the lunna not independent designes.

    I really like hearing about the ships in 40k. Ive been recreating some in galactic civ 4, and ive learned that this rabbit hole goes deeeep. The Ad Mech have variations of the same class ships that look totally different. With giant nova cannons. Love hearing about the ships! Other ships like how does the Astra Militarum transport their forces from world to world?

      Realistically collapse and fall to predation by chaos. The religious zealotry isn't a flaw in the Imperium, it's the manifestation of mankind's spiteful refusal to lay down and die in the face of evil gods that want to consume us.

    So happy. I was just talking about it yesterday on the last video ;D
    Only missing how to make and how long to make each ship (;
    And the crew how they are divided in upper and lower class and ranks and like how many standard crew is there and who can they just get new of fast and so on ;D
    And who use these kinda of ship, like what class/rank faction would use that ship
    And so how big is a standard battle Group
    Really do hope the imperium can make the good "old" ships again
    Or just new ships. After Guilliman has lifted the ban on making new stuff (;
    Just love how you say " not yet lost" ;D

    I think the one thing that would make imperial ships more badass looking is the armor plating from the frontal ram matched with the rest of the ship making it look full bodied instead of skeletal.

    I've always thought it was a little bit of a bummer that we don't really get much story on starfighters in warhammer. I mean I get that we all love it for the melee and all that, but some of my best syfy books are about squadrons of star fighters like rogue squadron. I'd just be interested to see a 40k version of that. Dogfights in the void make some of the most interesting action packed stories I've ever read.
    That said I do love reading portions of books about large scale void battles with large scale ships. Instead of tight maneuver we get size and fire power.

    11:56 I find the stats used for Battle Barges hilarious in Battlefleet Gothic
    As marines are meant for ground engagements, Barges in BFG are armed with Bombardment Cannons meant for Exterminatus and used in close range combat
    Thing is, this is their _least_ devastating weapon in-game. The most devastating weapon a Battle Barge uses is its cargo
    The Space Marines themselves
    EDIT: also "Know no Fear" extends to even the Chapter Serfs crewing the ship, to the point that Astartes crew are all immune to losing morale
