    No one likes a dirty car, but when I got my BMW i3 from the auction, I could not believe how dirty it actually was. Not only was it full of filth and trash, but all of the hard surfaces were covered in grime and built up dirt. The soft materials in the car were stained and damaged in many places. I was able to get most of the stains and dirt removed and clean up, but of course there are still some noticeable worn out parts that will have to be replaced in the future.

    Your dedication to making this car drivable and visually presentable is inspirational. Hopefully we owners won’t let our own cars get as bad as that was.

      I hope not! I will make it as good as it can be over the next few months and it seems I bought it at the perfect time with fuel prices going through the roof!
      Thanks for watching!

    Leather Dye can help you with the worn out parts. There's a website that sells dyes specific to the car model. It's pretty cheap and easy to apply. No need to replace the entire part.

      Thanks for the suggestion. I've done a little research and it seems like there is a mix of opinions on this this this isn't leather, but fabric covered in leather like material. I think I'll give this a try and hopefully it looks at least better!

    Well done. I use my air compressor to get between buttons, etc. Amazing that this car was so badly abused but now on its way back to glory!

      I tried that, but unfortunately there is some sticky goo in there and it will need to be disassembled and cleaned out with some rubbing alcohol etc.
      Thanks for watching!

    Ever since your first video when you bought this car, I've been looking forward to this one the most! You got yourself an amazing bargain and with your dedication you will bring it back to life! Looking forward to the exterior cleaning video too! As per other comments, I've used leather dye for seats and isopropyl alcohol to clean the worst parts. All good. 👍🏻

      Appreciate you watching! Makes me want to do this even more.
      I was very eager to get it in acceptable condition and I love driving it now. Will be cleaning the sticky buttons with alcohol and trying leather dye as a few people have suggested!

    You can easily remove the accelarator pedal by removing the small round rubber grommet at the front, loosen the bolt and remove the accelerator. Than you can clean the dirt around the pedal more easily.

      Gloves were an absolute must! The worst part of the entire job was when my glove ripped as I was picking out the stuck pennies from the cup holder and i got a bunch of gunk under my nail.. almost steam cleaned my finger after lol

    There are vids on how to get the dash trims off and the one around the idrive controller. They all come out fairly easily. I wrapped mine in cf vinyl wrap. The idrive controller is held in by 3 screws on the back.

    I'd love to know the first name of the last owner.. I have an idea of which sort of people leave a car in this condition and then get it repossed..
    100% isopropyl alcohol could help with many of those sticky items.. I imagine a soft drink went over the buttons...
    Any lingering smells can be got rid of by using an ozone generator..
    Time to try to get decent used parts for the worst items? Maybe that driver seat.. Then sell the old driver seat.. Maybe the final cost wouldn't be so bad.?

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  2 года назад

      I can't imagine who would do this to a car, it's crazy!
      Once I have a little more time the controller is coming out and getting soaked in rubbing alcohol and fully cleaned out! Surprisingly, there is no more smell in this car after the cleaning, I think the steam killed most of the bacteria that was producing the odor. So far so good!
      I've been looking for used seats, but they are either sold as a set ($1200+400 shipping) or in the wrong color. Hopefully soon!
      Thanks for watching, Mark.

    Armrrest, steering wheel, seat border is leather, do not replace, just buy some leather conditionner / coloration and restore it ;)

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  2 года назад

      Unfotunately, those aren't real leather. It's some leatherette type stuff. In the areas where it's worn, you can see fabric type material underneath. I will try the dye anyway to see if it works.
