Parents should be held accountable for their kids behaviour
You can’t when you have replaced parents with social workers
What interests me is how clever some of these kids are. When I was in my early teens there was a boy called Mark Styles. Mark sniffed glue and took drugs at 14 and his behaviour was very reckless, aggressive, constantly fighting, stealing, swearing at anyone and everyone. One day I caught him at a bus stop and the bus didn't come and we talked for ages. I asked him why he was so reckless and always in trouble and he replied that he didn't expect to live beyond his mid 20's due to substance misuse so might as well do whatever I want and enjoy what's left of life. He was just normal for 20 minutes or so and then his mates turned up, he then called me all the names under the sun and bounced off with them but for 20 minutes he was absolutely normal and not off his head. Some of these kids have a lot to offer. Such a shame they've been ruined. A real waste....

The human animal is a strange creature.
In my work I've dealt with these situations many times. What often seems like a a gang disturbance is normally down to one or two really bad kids. So in a group of, say. ten kids, four or five just hang about on the periphery and will withdraw from the gang the first time they get into trouble. Three or four encourage the ringleaders but don't behave like that when they're away from the group. The main one or two are headed for a life of crime, no matter what. Throw a young sociopath into the mix and rowdy, unruly behaviour becomes downright scary. I know everyone hated ASBOs because the tabloids told them to, but they really did bring peace to many neighbourhoods that had suffered for years. All anyone had to do to avoid one was to stop a particular behaviour. And yes there were the hard-heads who were always going to behave badly but it put a stop to large groups of kids roaming the neighbourhood every night causing problems. In every case I dealt with the threat of an ASBO took most kids out of the picture and allowed the various agencies to concentrate on the one or two real troublemakers. And yes, their home life was almost always the problem.
Bring back borstal and National Service...
OMG, poor pigeon😱 Sounds absolutely feral and I'm from the schemes in Glasgow!! This is what happens when addiction is labelled as an illness, addicts are coddled and fed methadone instead of investing in abstinence based recovery and mental health services. Looking and sounding great as always doc, that presenter was like something from the late late show but you handled it like a champ lol 😘
Lack of consequences
It's almost as if those governing the country for the last 12 years could have been doing a better job 🤔
By that I mean, Tories have increased poverty, decreased public services (police in particular) savaged the economy and reduced opportunities for work and decent education
The same people complaining about job opportunity’s are the same ones who didn’t take up the school opportunities
Dr Das spoke really well. I especially liked his response to the comment that Blake-hell could occur everywhere because he said it in a way that clearly shut down the idea and at the same time avoided making the reporter feel dumb and immediately got him on side.
The reporter, however, scares me both as an individual and as a representative of mainstream sensationalist news media. Check out LADBible TV for some of the best interviewing I've seen in recent memory.
Talking about individuals replicating cycles of violence for the host to go on to complain about it being taboo to hit children...wow. I know that GBN is a bad joke but that guy is an absolute caricature. Astonishing.

Too many generations of less and lol less respect for authority has brought us to kids with no respect at all and no fear of consequences because the parents stand up did the kids when things are brought to them

I'm afraid I never agree with hitting children , I think if you hit a child you have lost control , there are better ways . I think this is a problem with society , bad parents etc , but it's a failure in education, and where I live ,I see there is nothing for young people ,nothing to entertain them , nothing for them to hope for , if young people see that the only way to get what they want us criminality then that's what they will do , children need to be given hope ,and opportunities, teaching a child that you punish someone with violence , teaches them to use violence. Parents should also take some responsibility for what their children do .

The interviewer spoke of parents hands being tied as they can't smack their kids (basically). As a part of addressing the underlying issues of poverty, drugs and housing etc. Do you think that teaching integrative parenting techniques to the parents of these kids would also help them help their children? Teaching them they can discipline without violence so the kids can have rules and boundaries in place without the need for an iron fist to keep them there?
I wish the interviewer had asked you some better questions as opposed to the excitement he seemed to have for asking questions that would create villains as opposed to solutions.
Typical, deprive an area so extremely and this is what happens, then everyone blames the ppl who have to survive there for the results 👎😭.
