    So, what do you all think of religion in Civ 6? Gonna try go for religious victory this time or it still doesn't look interesting to you? If you want to support the channel, buy games using this *GOG* referral link: af.gog.com/?as=1715648857 They have lots of sales... Thanks!

      Hiwalani Aira Tayten They did say it was more than in Civ 5 but didn't specify how many.

      I hope that the religious system, diplomacy, and justified wars system along with adequate a.i. makes this game more involved on the diplomatic side.

    • @kylesugui
      @kylesugui 8 лет назад +1

      @Vlad Petrescu by atheism you mean you'll prevent religion from getting spread across?

    • @vladpetrescu89
      @vladpetrescu89 8 лет назад

      Yeah, prolly gonna try something like that. Purge the religious cities and after conquering replace all the religious buildings with science ones, or start a religion called atheism and get all the science bonuses. Who knows!? But the game all in all seems like it's OK the right track.

    Religious victory should be you summon God and the other civs get thrown into a lake of fire

      that's be cool except that God is not supposed to do that.

      @Tenhys 8 лет назад +5

      How could you know ? I personnaly never met him, but i quite recall all believers insisting on his taste for fire toward anyone that doesn't follow his laws.

    • @AndrewGunner
      @AndrewGunner 8 лет назад +8

      Tenhys I didn't say I know that. That's how it is in theory. God is not supposed to favour someone who is no better than others. As far as I know, every human is a sinner.

    • @Tenhys
      @Tenhys 8 лет назад +2

      Andrew Gunner
      _" As far as I know, every human is a sinner."_
      I know that you're simply quoting a very known spread sentence, so i'm not countering that point out of spite but merely out of curiosity. (and mostly out of fun.)
      _"God is not supposed to favour someone who is no better than others"_
      So how does it goes for humans that are born blind, deaf or mute, or all at the same time ? Since we've got Gandhi's portrait up there, this question is perfect for the three monkeys' philosophy : for one that, from birth, couldn't see evil, couldn't hear evil and couldn't speak evil, does he brings evil nonetheless ? Someone would be guilty from birth for not being able to conceive guilt ? man that's messed up... I like it.
      That "God" guy sounds like a pretty Devil fellow. I think i like him. Now if only his name was Gaunter O' Dimm instead of merely "God" that would be plain awesome.

      They should add terrorism as a feature of religious wars.
      Or maybe just add terrorism itself since it seems like a modern type of warfare.

    • @kd-hw2vk
      @kd-hw2vk 8 лет назад +2

      Shan chinraj You're actually right, since terrorism uses psychological means to influence. It's probably much more common back then. However, with the century of peace and globalization, and with very few states fighting other states, terrorism seems to stand out. But yeah, maybe I'm wrong on the account of it being a product of modern warfare.
      And the 20th century is still part of the modern period. It's partly contemporary history, but since ww1 started in 1914, I would say it's part of the _late modern_ period.

    Would be interesting to have a religeous freedom policy, where you get a happiness and a culture bonus but spread pressure on your cities is doubled

    • @lordjub-jub5254
      @lordjub-jub5254 8 лет назад +3

      Religious tolerance was a policy in civ v. I think it gave you the pantheon of the second most dominant religion in your civ. I don't see why everyone wants to put some kind of downside in with religion, I wouldn't suggest having a high culture makes a civ seem pretentious to other civs and make it a diplomatic modifier, I wouldn't suggest rapid scientific advancement cause Luddites to appear in your cities and steal research points and set back your progress.

    Religion lens UI needs a bit more work. It's not as obviously intuitive as other UI elements. Not only should it be easier to see what the current religious state of affairs, but also it should predict what effects a particular religious act (e.g. religious warfare) will have on that state of affairs.

    unfortunately, It doesn't take religion far enough as I am concerned. I would like Civs to have the ability to adopt a religion as a State religion for your empire if you did not get a chance to found a religion yourself. I would also like to see religious institutions or world wonders.

      +Legend Does Gaming
      First, I invite you to look up state atheism, because it was actually done in the USSR and other places.
      And to answer your second question, that's only if you consider intolerance to be a defining trait of religion.

    • @thereallgaming5629
      @thereallgaming5629 7 лет назад

      ***** Thanks for showing me to look up state atheism. About the second statement, I could agree with what you said. That's so because I'd imagine that atheists would be open minded and not push their stances on others like a religion would.

    I had to come down because I was so excited to get Kongo as an official Civ but when they choose a weak leader for them I really became offended because I am an African American who practice indigenous African religion and when I talk to Africans who do so they really feel that they are misrepresented if they are shown at all. Kongo not being able to build holy site is a big fail that need to be fix fast. I hope people could understand how this is a sensitive subject.

  • @DiggerjohnKansas

    That sounds absolutely amazing. One of the worst things about Civ V was going Piety, having another Civ spam missionaries on you and then becoming the most hated player in the game for just trying to defend your religion. As for going for a Religious Victory, heck yeah! I have been wanting that since Civ IV.

  • @KerdeadB
    @KerdeadB 8 лет назад +3

    I think with the victory type you should get the predominante religion when 50% of the POPULATION is that religion.

    • @cOmAtOrAn
      @cOmAtOrAn 8 лет назад

      Fifty percent of the population is a lot less than fifty percent of the cities, because a city doesn't count for anything until more than fifty percent of the internal population follows that religion.
      Unless, I suppose, your religion specifically targeted the lowest population cities.

  • @Ohtrin
    @Ohtrin 8 лет назад +5

    This religious victory seems a bit confuse:
    What if a religion get spread through half of the world with a Warmonger empire that vanished their original funder from the game?

    • @GamerZakh
      @GamerZakh  8 лет назад +2

      Judging by the religion victory screen, it lists out your position against other civs. I would assume that if a civ was wiped out of the game, their civ would disappear from that list. You can't win a game you've already lost. Without the founder of the religion, there will be no more missionaries, apostles, or inquisitors to defend that religion. Someone else who's going religion would have no opposition to spreading theirs on the religious side and will eventually overtake the other religion.

  • @Disthron
    @Disthron 8 лет назад +13

    I think that there should be draw backs to encouraging religion in the long run. Specially as time progresses past renascence era tech. Having high religious influence should degrade research and deny technologies that the religion deems blasphemes.

    • @TGVassvik
      @TGVassvik 8 лет назад +2

      I really like that idea! But it must be hard to balance :/

    • @Disthron
      @Disthron 8 лет назад

      Well, I wouldn't know, as I'm not the dev. But that's would be my designing principal. Starts out powerful, slowly becomes a burden.

    • @Disthron
      @Disthron 8 лет назад +1

      ***** I don't think religeon ever elevated the lower classes. I'm pretty sure it was secularism that did that.
      Though, to be fair, I'm not that well versed in the eastern religions.
      Also, religion would never improve science or technology. It would only refrain from hindering the ones that didn't step on there toes.

    • @chowderstevens9375
      @chowderstevens9375 8 лет назад +2

      Great point, religion holds advancement in tech back and is completely useless

    • @Disthron
      @Disthron 8 лет назад +1

      Chowder Stevens Well, it is useless at developing technology, but it can be very useful for influencing populations.
      This is why my proposal is for it to be very useful in the early ages but will lead to you getting rolled over by tanks while you're stuck with swords and sandals if you let it.

    • @46JCK
      @46JCK 7 лет назад +2

      Andi Keucher If a city has been converted. Your religious units from that city will be the converted religion. In order to return to creating units that have your religion in that city. Hopefully you have another city that is your religion that can produce inquisitors to remove the foreign religion from your city. I'm not 100% sure on this yet but over time I believe your holy city as well as any city within 10 hexes. Starts to convert itself back on its own.

    I hesitate to speculate on balance issues before I've played the game, but here's how it seems to me:
    In Civ V (BNW - the latest version) religion was a strong mechanic without a victory condition of its own. I found that I had to spend so much time on it that it's like the rest of the game was only to kick off the religion and then to actually win. I found its necessity and yet separation annoying.
    Religions cropped up all over the planet and millions of people support them, but they're not progress. In fact historically they've been a blight upon progress - no factor has been a bigger limit on scientific/social progression than unfounded belief (for instance that the world is flat or the centre or that true love can only exist between a man and a woman), and it would have been more realistic to add them as a factor which we have to limit to allow progression and prevent dark ages. At best they are a moral crutch for those unable/unwilling to decide for themselves what's right and wrong. At worst they are divisive power structures that from time to time have been exploited by the states they operate in. To even suggest that they've been a net source of happiness is to ignore all the people they've marginalised or crucified (figuratively or literally) and those who've been forced by society to comply regardless of their beliefs - How many millions, to this day, attend church/mosque/whatever not because they believe but because it's the price of living in their community? How much time do they waste? How many women remain uneducated because religion says so? Religion's place as an entirely positive thing in the game is not just unwarranted it's calling night day.
    I've nothing against including religions as a power structure to exploit, because that's realistic, but at the very least there should be a cost to doing that on your science generation. As power structures they at least have a place, and thus a victory condition is reasonable. However, the idea that they provide as much to society as Civ V would have us believe with the dominant religious buildings (Pagoda and Mosque) is absurd (and I may yet come to think that Civ VI isn't much more realistic).
    I'm glad that religion seems to be less of a support mechanism in VI. This change is shown most notably in the 'nerf' of Mosque & Pagoda which in V provided 3 and 4 in non-faith metrics (the culture and happiness) respectively. 2 (food/production/science) is the most in non-faith metrics that the (generic) religious buildings provide in VI, though I'm yet to see what the religious civs get (but at least I won't have to play them).
    By making religion more insular they seem to have made religion non-essential in VI. It's an option. If you don't mind imposing religion on people** then it looks like it may be one of the easier win conditions, but due to the reduced support qualities it's probably not going to be most of what you need. If you go that way you'll get some nice non-religion support from aspects of your religion, but not the ridiculous situation I had in a recent game where I had Pagoda and Mosque - 4 culture and 3 happiness from each city the moment I founded it (this without even playing one of the 'religious' civs).
    ** P.S. I find inflicting religion on people abhorrent - Belief should be a choice, not an affliction, so please don't teach or let anyone teach your children religion and please don't take them to church/mosque/whatever, because if they're too young to get married, drink alcohol or any number of things that can mess with their heads/lives then they're too young and impressionable to make a responsible decision about spiritual beliefs. You don't need to teach your kids religion to teach them morals.

      Starting more than 1 religion would either be unbalanced or broken mechanically. It's still a game. What would happen when you start a second religion? Do the 2 religions compete? Because that would be bad for yourself. If it doubles your bonuses, no other single religion civ could compete.

    • @Hannodb1961

      GamerZakh Yes, having more than one religion would be bad for your civ. In both cases I mentioned, the result was divisive, and then I haven't even mentioned the effect of the church reformation. But still, I would've like to option to do it anyway.

    • @DanStaal

      Good question - my theory is that they realized they were approaching the point where their realistic art style would become overly confusing as they got more detailed, so they either had to change styles or not improve the art at all. Going to a more stylistic form means they can increase the quality of their graphics without getting into minute details that will just detract from gameplay.

    I never go for any type of victory I go for high score on largest possible map squeezing in as many cities as I possibly can and having my religion in all and having all buildings in all cities .... that means avoiding all victory types till the score meter stops moving. Then you capture the last captial. BTW I use generals to build citadels and steal land from the last enemy city till in only have one hex to live on. It then shrinks to 3 and if one fort is placed next to last enemy city every military unit profuced there will loose health and die when spawned. This is my ultimate satisfaction .... I got you cornered buddy, I can win using any victory type now ... but I choose military cause capturing the last city gives even better score.
    I don't think I will buy civ 6 I think civ 5 is good enough. Have to wait 10 years for civ 7 I guess. The thing is very little is going on on the map and the game is slow as *****. I do think it is a shame that atheism/secularism is not included, potentially with an increase in science bonuses. Maybe it should have been given as a possible change after a scientific revolution or when a civ enters the age of rationalism (if that will be a thing in Civ 6, as it is in Civ 5) or just have it as a stand alone.

    • @ethanb8382
      @ethanb8382 8 лет назад +6

      Atheism is the lack of a religion. How do you propose to found an atheist religion which gives you a science bonus if it is literally the lack of a religion?

    • @evorock
      @evorock 8 лет назад +1

      Good question Ethan. What I was thinking of was more that when a civ reaches a scientific revolution/rationalism, they are given the option to adopt atheism/secularism which could give more science as science production tends to increase as lack of religion grows, and potentially bonuses for staying peaceful based on humanism.
      Not that atheism is adopted as a religion as that in essence would be an oxymoron.

    • @evorock

    • @maxben3391

      Well secualrism assumes a non-religious state with religious freedom, while an atheist state would be a intolerance to religion altogether. Just because religion takes over a city does not mean it conquers a country. That country may have adopted said religion but by no means does it take over a government. The greatest impact i can see is over each cities religious district. Over time the predominant religious country may try various methods to create a religious revolt. This however would be over time and city by city. as it is now it is far to easy to gain a religious victory.

      Well that's if the AI are okay with you hanging around and don't kill your missionaries with apostles. Also, to get enough missionaries to do that you'll need to spend a ton of faith and it won't be getting you anything since you're storing up missionaries while others are using faith for great people and other things. You'll probably need a couple missionaries per city, so if there are 4 other civs each with 4 cities, that's 16 cities, so to convert half of them your plan would need about 16 missionaries at least stationed around the world while not being at war with anyone for long periods of time, which would be difficult because the agendas are bound to make someone hate you for some reason.

    Atheism should be a viable option in two ways. First, the player should be able to completely remove religion components from the game. (Some of us like to be able to play the base game without throwing religious concepts in at all.) Second, the game should allow for an atheist stance that causes one's civilization to resist religious conversion. No ability to make any other religious purchases other than Inquisitor type units whose sole function is to extinguish these weird cults as they form. And no, I don't think it's sufficient to just rename Catholicism and call it "Atheism" for the sake of argument. (Calling atheism a religion is like calling "not collecting stamps" a hobby.)

      What religion your cities follow isn't your civilization's official religion. Much like real life China today, the government discourages religion in government and doesn't promote anything religious whatsoever but over 90% of China identifies with some sort of religion. In Civ 6, you can just not go for a great prophet and don't play a religion game. Also, a science bonus for not having a religion has been discussed at length and it always leads to the game being horribly unbalanced because there's no way for a religious civ to counter a non-religious civ with a science bonus.

      It spreads naturally from their cities or they can spread it using religious units. Once you have a city that's converted to their religion, any religious unit you make in that city will be their religion, which you can use to spread their religion to your own cities.
