Good Morning Miss Wood - my question is not related to the needle but more generic (not sure where else to post it) could you perhaps let us have some videos on lovely retro dresses for the fuller (more mature) figure!! Thank you for your lovely videos.
@Evelyn Wood- I was having a nightmare of a day with my machine. Trying to make face masks when the bobbin thread got all "wonky". It looked like a pasta explosion on fabric. Your video/tutorial helped out so much. Thank you 😊
I rarely changed my needle until I started to sew with a sewing buddy. She stressed the importance of a new needle, and she regularly used a new needle when she started a new project. Needles are cheap, fabric and your time is not. I noticed a Hugh improvement in the look of my stitches with a new needle, and now follower her advice.
Evelyn appears to be genuinely happy to be with us. I feel so welcome at this channel, and by extension, if she invited us to her workshop or home, I would believe that she really wants to help us.
How embarrassing I sew a lot and only change my needle when it breaks! Now I understand why my machine sounds different. Thanks heaps. Also would love a vid on different needles and their use.
I break needles so often (quilting and denim) that I think I never consider these tips much, but I learned so much in 5 minutes! Always sending you love from across the Seas! You help us so much! Those dresses behind you and what you are wearing! So lovely!
You should not be breaking needles just because you quilt or sew denim. It is more likely you are using the wrong type/size of needle. I quilt and use 75/11 or 80/12. I use needles specifically for quilting for piecing. The thread I love to machine quilt with suggests a 80/12 topstitch needle, and that works perfectly. And denim should be sewn with a denim needle. The size would depend on the weight of the denim.
@@1packatak Naw, it's because I am pulling or wrestling with the huge quilts. Huge quilts made of denim. Layers ad layers. It's my own fault. User error! I also use a straight stitch needle plate often and any pulling not done carefully results in breaking a needle. Also I am thrifting and eBaying machine needles, so there's really no shortage for me, but it is just a hassle!
I wondered why my machine was louder ,,,,it nearly new ,,,time to change my needle ,,a quilt ,table runners ,all padded a few skirts and various other projects ,,,,,same needle ,,,wow I never thought of this ,,thank you Evelyn,
I will be looking out for those clunky sounds from now on - I always thought my bobbin case was loosely inserted or something, now I realise it's a blunt needle! Thankyou Evelyn. You should totally do a video on adjusting bobbin case lower tension - not alot of new sewers know that you have to do that and it's something that I struggled with for a long time until I knew that I had to adjust it. It fixed 90% of the problems I run into on my machine xx
Oh my goodness... Bobbin tension. My mother and grandmother both sewed. I learned never to touch mom's sewing machine because she always thought I had changed the tension. I eventually recovered and learned to sew. I was terrified to change tension on my own machine until I started sewing on denim.
Elizabeth's creations, interesting! When ever someone discusses ‘tension’ the next thing out of their mouth is, NEVER mess with the bobbin tension. It’s recommended to purchase a new bobbin casing and when working on a particular project where bobbin tension may have to be adjusted, use the spare and not the ‘everyday’ bobbin casing, as it’s difficult (not impossible) to get it back to its original position. Have a great day!
My dad worked for awhile sewing custom automotive upholstery. He taught me to gently pinch the needle and run my fingers down to the tip checking for any rough spots or burrs. Sometimes if you sew over pins there will be some roughness.
Thank you so much for your videos. I had a terrible time with bird nesting last week and while everyone and the manual said tension and bobbin winding I knew that wasn’t the problem. No one said anything about changing the needle.
In designschool (20 years ago) we learned to run our nail down the needle. If it felt like there was a bump on the tip, it was time to change the needle🤗
I change needles based on the type of fabric I'm sewing. If I'm using the same type of fabric, I will change the needle after 2-4 projects and find listening to how my machine sounds helpful. Great tips, Evelyn! Thanks for sharing.
After breaking to pieces about 10 needles I now sew everything with one that's basically for denim. At least it is strong enough for virtually everything, but I do realize it's not the best thing to do and yes, occasionally it is the source of many problems.
Loved this video... Well i don't know much about sewing machines... But i can tell you about the embroidery machines...almost same criteria for needle change.. 1. You are having thread breaks. Coz if needle is not sharp enough... It cannot bore well into the fabric... And you have thread breaks... Change it.. 2. Stitching quality changed quite a lot from start of using new needle... Change it. 3. Machine is noisy stitching heavy fabrics like denim... Change the needle.. 4. If machine skipping stitches... Its not a needle fault... Your hook timing is out... It’s such a huge relief to know that I am completely on the same page when it comes to changing needles! I do alterations mostly, so I am constantly changing out sizes/types and you’re right, there is no way to keep precise track of how many hours it’s been used! I must say, however, seeing this video prompted me to change out my serger needles and to clean and oil my machines...that, at least, I do pretty regularly! Your videos are so fun...thank you!
If you want to know which needle to use, and you generally use Schmetz needles (I believe it is one of the most used brands of needles, but I'm not sure if that is different in other countries.), I would recommend downloading the Schmertz app. It's totally free, and I find it very useful. It had a category called needles by fabric type, which lists a lot of fabrics alphabetically, and then tells you which size and type of needle are recommended for that fabric. It has a list with different needle types available, that describes what the difference is between them, and what uses they have. And there is a guide which lists what the colors at the top of the needle indicate, so If you have a needle in your machine, and you don't know what type it is, You can just look at the color and look in the app and you can see what needle it is! I just downloaded it a few weeks ago, but I find it a really helpful app for my needle questions.
I find that a blunt needle will cause a woven fabric to pucker a bit when stitching (particularly if the fabric is quite fine, like a poplin or muslin) and the needle makes a sort of clicky sound when sewing. Then it's time to change the needle!
I love that your answer is that Master-Of-The-Trade answer of "You'll know when you know." Often, through working with things and practice, seeing how things show behave while they're fresh Vs. worn, these are things you learn over time. Great videos! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
I do what you do, I change my needle with each new project that I start. It really cuts down on problems with my machine. And, thank you for your videos!
I Googled and watched so many videos on tension issue while trying to figure out what was wrong with my sewing machine. My thread kept breaking, tension was off, and the machine was louder. I purposely go to your channel and find my answer. When you mentioned the thudding sound I knew it was the needle. Thank you. 😮💨
I just found your videos and am watching them all as I wait for my sewing machine to arrive. I am 54 and I’ve made up my mind I’m finally going to learn to sew. Thanks for all your expert advise. I love your dress.
Yes please, a video on which needle for which type of fabric, and the different needle names, are some of them actually the same but with different names? That would be fab! Love your instructional videos. I've started sewing in the last 12 months and it's been an education. Love it!
I‘ll often start a new needle for the topstitching at the end of a project - just to make sure, it‘ll be as perfect as possible. I change pretty often anyway, though. I don’t get, why people skimp on this...needles aren’t that expensive, especially considering the time investment that goes into sewing a garment. Whenever I‘m tempted, I remind myself that it’s like using blunt kitchen knifes...I passionately hate cutting with a blunt knife...the mere thought will make me reach for a new needle immediately 😎
I am speechless. I had this fabric that was ready to be sewn into a dress that I just couldn't sew with my machine, so I threw it in the back of my scrap fabrics because I didn't want to sew the entire thing by hand. I remembered when you mentioned the wellbeloved favourite fabrics that I got reminded of my dress. I changed the needle and my machine works! A little wonky at first but it sews! I might have a new dress by tomorrow. I cannot express how grateful I am. I am almost crying because I would have never thought it was the needle. Thank you!! Update: I finished the dress and the print is atrocious on me :( at least I have a nice pattern now. Let's pretend it was a mock and I will redo the dress with something less ugly
First of all, I love you. I'm learning a lot from you. You make these videos so entertaining, happy and joyful. Now I know what to look for and it makes sense. Thank you so much.!
I'll be danged, I thought I was the only one who used the "touch test". The difference can be quite obvious and is easy to feel it. And that sound of the needle "punching" through the fabric is a great indicator. As a quilter, I hear that sound often but sometimes it's simply because I'm sewing through multiple layers of fabric, applique and batting - even with a new needle. If I do, I change to a fresh, slightly larger one. Like you, I sew A LOT! Knits, denim, polyester, cotton, spandex, upholstery fabric, etc. I am constantly changing needles. When I go to my weekly quilting group, everyone thinks I'm crazy because I have dozens of needles in my kit. But I don't care, I'd rather have enough needles to change when needed. You're videos are consistently delightful. Please keep them coming!
this is literally the most useful sewing video I've ever seen! been sewing by machine for over 20 years and i have never known the answer to this (apart from "after every 8 hours or every project which is just not helpful to me). i now know that i definitely need to change more often because i recognise that 'thud thud' sound 😆
also, i love your thrift refashion videos: i have just done my own, a modern dress someone gave me, i made it in to a 20s gown with beading and ruffles, it was so much fun 😊
Evelyn this a r-eal eye opener as i never gave a thought to a needle getting dull. I just thought to use it, on same kind of material, until it got jammed and broke! Thanks a mil for great advice.
O.K. I am guilty as charged!! Same needle, multiple fix it and "new" projects! I got lazy. I learned a lot the hard way that your tips on my needle issues are spot on!! I am changing the needle in the morning!! I have nothing to stitch, but I will be ready. The last two items were serious table cloths, and sewing them sounded like a rivet hammer!! Looked great, just lots of effort. Thanks for nudging me back on track Evelyn!!! Great stuff!!
Lovely video! Needles are very expensive, where I live, in Canada, so I purchase lots when I find a fabulous sale, then I don’t feel stingy about changing them. I’m trying to mark ones I’ve used only once or twice, e.g, on denim hems, that I don’t feel need to be discarded. Thank you for all your freely-shared expertise!
I change my needles after each project. But, when I am doing alterations, I put the needle on a piece of tissue paper with style, size, and hours..For example: Jeans/12/3hrs. After 6-8 hours, I place the used needles in my glass jar. Which gets recycled.
Greetings Nutan, I live in Southern Florida, USA. I am not sure 🤔 about other countries. You might want to google/yahoo that question. Or check with your local government and/or trash collector.
Finally! Someone says change it when you need to. Thank you! I agree 100% with everything you said. Change it with every project or every eight hours ? No way - I've got other things to do with my money.
Dear Evelyn, You are so far the only one I found that has the best Needles Guidelines. I use you as my "go to buddy" on exactly showing folks about any form of questions on Alterations, Sewing, and Guidelines. And to boot, I just love ❤️ your style of clothes. God Bless you and keep on inspiring all of us to Sew better. Note: this was written under the influence of Medicines and blurry eyes..
Your video was very helpful! I've been sewing on and off for years but am sometimes intimidated to try new sewing projects because I need to be educated...your videos are fantastic and I appreciate you!
I, also, am a constant sewer.....and you hit the nail on the head with all the methods you described for changing a needle.....I sew on both my industrial & my Bernina 1008, so I need to change both to the same type of needle for each project, since I use both machines in conjunction with each other..........
Oh gosh you have just served most probably lots of my problems. I never think of changing needles, except for denim and stretch. But to Chequers if it’s blunt I don’t even think of that. Well this tip I will remember for future showings. Tks I love your videos.....🌹❤️🌹❤️
I change my sewing machine needle after about 3-4 projects using an universal sewing needle. However, if I am sewing thin fabric or knit I just change it to a special sewing machine needle anyway. great video
I'm so glad you did onne of these. i remember asking you to do one on needle and pin maintenance. I Love my sharpener for my nneedles. and I am glad to hear someone else gets a new needle with their specialty fabrics. So much good information here.
Perfect timing for this advice for me. Im getting ready to begin quilting a new quilt for my granddaughter. I think I'll change the needle first. Thanks!
Thank you for this video and the one about cleaning your machine! I took years of sewing in school (although it was all just one level with mostly beginners) but don't remember the teachers ever talking about these two things! Suuuuper helpful!
Hi Evelyn! I loved this video! I knew how important it is to change the needle but I didn’t realize not changing it often enough would cause the “strained” sound I was hearing. Thanks for keeping us informed
Thanks Evelyn, I took a sewing class about 6 months ago and the instructor advised me to change my needle more often. I was sometimes having issues where only a potion of the thread would break and ball up near the point of the needle. It would bog down the machine and sometimes bind, making a knot that would no longer go through the material. Changing will likely resolve some issues. Please do a vid on needle size and selection. Answer questions about hole and thread size compatibility as well as point & ball choices. Thanks....your secret admirer J K
Hi there Thanks for your inputs During this lockdown I have stitched couple of saree blouse , I think today is the day I am going to change my needle I had totally forgotten about it Thanks 👍
Hi Evelyn , I'm new here 😊 I start sewing few weeks ago and I'm beginer , just found your channel and i just want to say you are Awesome , thank you for sharing your videos it's really helpfull !!
Good 5 points...i worked for 30 years in a sewing factory and made stuff at home. Change when it starts skipping, when going to a softer fabric. I did about 8 different jobs in factory and a good needle was essential. Love your posts.
First time I’ve seen your video. I’m very impressed . Your so knowledgeable about your subject and you take your time explaining. Thank you so much! Just love you.....
Verry interresting subject !! the 2 tips that work for me are the sound of the machine first and when I start a new project with expensive frabric like silks ....
Evelyn, this is my one problem with sewing shows, no one announces what needle they are working on if you want to copy the idea. They talk about stitches, fabric, etc but not the needle size. Whenever I have a problem with sewing and I am been sewing for lone time, it is usually the needle that gives me problem. Thanks for the talk about when to change needles.
As a new sewer, I was forever breaking needles, so always ended up sewed with a sharp needle. As I gained experience, I broke less needles, and then started to have issues with my sewing. It came to a head when I hemmed some shorts, and the stitches were on top of the fabric, instead of being in the middle of the fabric. I changed the needle, and presto, back to neat stitches.
I like your comments, they are clear and easy to understand. Thank you for the needle size episode as it solved my often skipping stiches and breaking of needles.
This was really useful, thank you! I was thinking that an idea for another video might be different types of fabric - something great for the beginners out there.
Thank you Evelyn. I have just changed my needle as I have absolutely no idea how old it is as I swap it out for the different types for other fabrics and then put it back in again. I am going to have to get a better system happening as I sew a lot, and don't want to damage my machine or fabrics.
Sometimes I try to sharpen my machine's needles by pushing them in and out of that little "strawberry" attached to the top of the "tomato " pin cushion. I was always told that's what that little berry is - a needle sharpener. Sometimes you can feel a burr on the point of the needle when it's dull.
I love what you are wearing.😍 this is great information. I usually change my needle after it breaks (i am so bad) ... however now i know i will change it more often, thanks Evelyn.
I definitely change before every longer project. Mostly not in between smaller projects, like sewing down a T Shirt seam. If my machine starts "thumping" it's mostly two things. She needs oil, and /or a new needle. Since I try to change the needle regularly, I usually oil her first, and see if it works. cleaning out my machine, oil her, and a new needle before every large project, as so e kind of starting ritual helps me keep the maintenance up
Heya! Yes- which needles should go with each fabric is a great video-suggestion. Talking about video-suggestions and fabrics though... I am a beginner, and one of the things I find the most co fusing is the vast amount og fabrics! They are made from many different fibres, have different thickness even though it is the same type, some will be easy to sew, some will wrinkle, some are delicate, some are sturdy. I have a feeling I might have to consider more than "oh that is a pretty print!" before I choose fabric for a dress or skirt - but what and how to find the right fabric is a mystery. Maybe you have some expertise to share? Thanks for all you great videos - they have helped a lot, and prevented some big sewingblunders on my part!
Thanks Evelyn for your great tips.. What I did is change needles for different types of material because sometimes it causes slack stitches so I use different needle for different fabric👍
Thank you Evelyn for making very clear, concise and easy to understand videos. I am fairly new to sewing and love to listen and watch your videos. I am interested in learning more about "needles" and what is required for different fabrics. I bought my sewing machine to basically mend my husbands very heavy work clothes ( he is a farmer and can tear a brand new shirt /pants) and also to sew paper for scrapbooking. However, I am also interested in the different materials.Thank you for sharing.
Hi from the U.S.! You’re so charming to watch and you’re a great instructor. I would LOVE a video on what types of needles for different fabrics. Thank you!
Thank you for so much information. You've been sewing all your life but you look so young and energetic. Can you make a video showing how you maintain your health? I find that with a lot of sewing my back and muscles can hurt for days on end even though I maintain correct posture , do exercises and have proper furniture with height adjusted when performing any sewing or cutting task. I would be ever so grateful for a video on that topic. Thank you and have a wonderful day!
Great video, Evelyn, even though little Esme was missing. I'm going to start listening and see if that'll work for me. It sounds like a plan and will beat changing a needle unnecessarily, or having problems because it's not been changed. Thanks for the suggestions.
Hi, Evelyn Can you please make a follow up video for what needle is necessary for different types of fabrics🙏? I love your channel and your vintage style and I always learn something new from you and I look forward to seeing your next video in my feed 😊
Thank you Evelyn, for yet another great advice. I only change it when it breaks😳, but off course this is so stupid, I will right this momen go and change it😃and keep in mind which fabric I am working with. I learned it once but completely forgot all about it. Looking at your videos makes me happy, you are such a sweet person. May I ask you something? Maybe a silly question 🤔but have you ever been into theater or film? I am sure you would be fabulous, you have this way of moving and expressing ourself that is so great!!😍😍😍You obviously have many talents!! And yes I would love a video about which needle for what!😃
One guy that helped me learn how to clean and fix my machine said that he had a lady bring her machine in to be fixed because it wouldn’t stay threaded. When he looked at it she had used it for so long that she had worn down the needle past where the eye was. Honestly this is not a joke. I don’t know how she never realized that she needed to change it or how she sewed without tearing up her fabric. Great lesson.
Please do make a video about which needle to use for what fabric. I'm sure I learned in my high school sewing class, but it was too many years ago for me to remember now. Btw, I love the top you are wearing. I don't suppose there's a pattern for it?
I have a needle to fabric guide that I got from the sewing store where I bought my machine. My sewing machine instruction book has a needle to fabric guid, too.
Another great video, Evelyn! My question for you is, what do you do with the old needle? Can you suggest a way to discard the old needle safely? Thanks!
Please make a video for differnt types of fabric. Also, how to tell the difference between a ballpoint and a regular needle. I spilled a combo set and I don't know which is which! PS your a fantastic teacher.
I could not tell the difference between the ballpoint and the standard needles. I got it figured out now. They are painted different colors at the end. Red and yellow haha
There is a crease across the white part of the needle packet that is designed to bend backward after you slip it up above the clear case. This makes the needles easily accesible then straighten it and slide it back down into the clear case.
I hope this helps! Let me know you like the video and tell me your own methods in the comments, for knowing when its time to change the needle!

I just found your videos and am watching them all as I wait for my sewing machine to arrive. I am 54 and I’ve made up my mind I’m finally going to learn to sew. Thanks for all your expert advise. I love your dress.
Thanks for watching!!!
Yes please, a video on which needle for which type of fabric, and the different needle names, are some of them actually the same but with different names? That would be fab! Love your instructional videos. I've started sewing in the last 12 months and it's been an education. Love it!
thanks for watching!! I'm glad you've stuck with it!!
Aww I'm so flattered you found it so useful! Thankyou!
Evelyn this a r-eal eye opener as i never gave a thought to a needle getting dull. I just thought to use it, on same kind of material, until it got jammed and broke! Thanks a mil for great advice.
love the dress with scarf in the background!
Im self taught and you have introduced so many new things to me im 3 videos in and have learned loads! Thank you Evelyn
I change my needles after each project. But, when I am doing alterations, I put the needle on a piece of tissue paper with style, size, and hours..For example: Jeans/12/3hrs. After 6-8 hours, I place the used needles in my glass jar. Which gets recycled.
Can needles be recycled? I didn't know that!
christine walker Greetings, yes it is made out of steel, stainless steel, platinum, and other metals.
Where do you send your used needles for recycling? Are you in Australia? I would really like to know if we can recycle those blunt needles. Thanks!
I'm the beginner, so please don't laugh at my silly question. But is 6 hours of sewing cotton considered the time to change needle?
Greetings Nutan, I live in Southern Florida, USA. I am not sure 🤔 about other countries. You might want to google/yahoo that question. Or check with your local government and/or trash collector.
Anything that will help newbie sewers like me will be appreciated more than you might realize.
Great!! You have the same methods!! Yes I forget to change out across all machines sometimes!
Oh gosh you have just served most probably lots of my problems. I never think of changing needles, except for denim and stretch. But to Chequers if it’s blunt I don’t even think of that. Well this tip I will remember for future showings. Tks I love your videos.....🌹❤️🌹❤️
Yes, please. A video on which needles work best with which fabrics would be very helpful. Thank you
I change my sewing machine needle after about 3-4 projects using an universal sewing needle. However, if I am sewing thin fabric or knit I just change it to a special sewing machine needle anyway. great video
This is a good system!!
Thanks!
Perfect timing indeed!!!
Fantastic information! I would appreciate a video about needles and fabric. I know its time to change my needle when I break it's tip. Lol!
Hi there
Thanks for your inputs
During this lockdown I have stitched couple of saree blouse , I think today is the day I am going to change my needle
I had totally forgotten about it
Thanks 👍
Hi Evelyn , I'm new here 😊 I start sewing few weeks ago and I'm beginer , just found your channel and i just want to say you are Awesome , thank you for sharing your videos it's really helpfull !!
Thank you Evelyn, this is a good reminder. I am going to change the needle right away.
Good 5 points...i worked for 30 years in a sewing factory and made stuff at home. Change when it starts skipping, when going to a softer fabric. I did about 8 different jobs in factory and a good needle was essential. Love your posts.
Oh great!! You use this one too! Yes it's a sure sign of a blunt needle!!
If needle starts to snag or pull the fabric...change it.
Oh yes! That's a good one! Particularly for satin fabrics!! I hate when this happens!!
That's is a great observation!! I agree, I wouldn't think you mention the needle size for a tutorial project, I will now though! Thankyou!
It's amazing the difference it makes right!!
Your machine will love for it I'm sure!
I usually change my needle after it breaks (i am so bad) ... however now i know i will change it more often, thanks Evelyn.
thanks! This dress usd one I made groom a 50s pattern! If you break your needle regularly, then is a good way to keep you on a nice new needle!
Fabric is such a big topic!! And something I do plan on covering for sure! Thank you for the suggestion!
Dang. Thanks. I used to change them when they broke and that was that. Or to change needle sizes w fabric weights. Thanks Evelyn!
Great videos! Thank you! I always place a paper under my needle before I change so that it doesn’t go into neverland.
Lovely, and your style is speaking too! 😊
Those blue tip needles are brilliant !
Hi from the U.S.! You’re so charming to watch and you’re a great instructor. I would LOVE a video on what types of needles for different fabrics. Thank you!
Very helpful! Please do a video on the different types of needles for different fabrics! Thanks for the great information. 🙏❤️👏
Yes Esme was sleeping the whole time for this one!! I hate getting skipped stitches!! So best to so it before it happens!
Hi, Evelyn
Can you please make a follow up video for what needle is necessary for different types of fabrics🙏? I love your channel and your vintage style and I always learn something new from you and I look forward to seeing your next video in my feed 😊
Aww Thanks for watching!! I'll put the vote in for the needle/ fabric type video!
And yes I would love a video about which needle for what!😃
Aww thank you for watching!! Never in film or theatre, I'm definitely not a center stage type of person!
Hi Evelyn ! I change my needle for some fabrics and also if I think I need to. Thanks for your video !
Merci beaucoup pour cette leçon de couture.
Je vous en prie!
Thank you! I was just going to google this! And could you talk about different needle uses?
thank you for this helpful video! Time to change the needle on my machine! 🙏🏻
Please do make a video about which needle to use for what fabric. I'm sure I learned in my high school sewing class, but it was too many years ago for me to remember now.
Btw, I love the top you are wearing. I don't suppose there's a pattern for it?
I do have a pattern, I made it my self based on a 50s style! I this dress was part of my vintage reproduction lable when I had it!
I have a needle to fabric guide that I got from the sewing store where I bought my machine. My sewing machine instruction book has a needle to fabric guid, too.
@@Evelyn__Wood is there any chance that you are selling copies of the pattern to your subscribers?😁
I, too, love the dress you are wearing in this video
And i enjoyed the video as well
I try and change my needle when starting a new project (like a quilt) or switch fabrics. But tend to go a little longer if my projects are small.
Another great video, Evelyn! My question for you is, what do you do with the old needle? Can you suggest a way to discard the old needle safely? Thanks!
Keep a jar near your sewing machine to put them all in!
Yes please on the “what type of needle for what fabrics” video!!! ❤️❤️
This was so helpful! It is time to change my needle! Thanks
Thank you for this video. I would love a video on which needle to use with which fabric type. That would help me tremendously. Thank you.
Very good information. Thank you Evelyn.
Please make a video for differnt types of fabric. Also, how to tell the difference between a ballpoint and a regular needle. I spilled a combo set and I don't know which is which! PS your a fantastic teacher.
The needle size should be written in tiny letters down the spine of the needle!
I could not tell the difference between the ballpoint and the standard needles. I got it figured out now. They are painted different colors at the end. Red and yellow haha
Would love a video about the different types of needle for fabrics and such 😊
There is a crease across the white part of the needle packet that is designed to bend backward after you slip it up above the clear case. This makes the needles easily accesible then straighten it and slide it back down into the clear case.
I tend to change mine when I start a new project, or change the type or thickness of fabrics.
Thanks for the tips. I'm going to change my needle!
A very informative video! I change my needle for every new project. My philosophy is, needles are cheap and machines are not :).
Thank you much, great tips.
