Hi Susan I have been recycling since I was a kid. I go through the garbage at school everyday. So thank you for your creative way of storing beads. I have asked my pregnant teachers for their baby food jars to use for beads. I also save little bits of ribbon and wrapping paper. Its nice to find a kindred spirit.

I haven't decorated them yet, because I keep filling more of them with different colors of clay beads! And yes we need to keep things out of the landfills! I use to use lids for making yarn pompoms, they could be cut, to whatever size needed. My aunt would make yarn Santa & snowmen heads & hats, out of pringles lids. And even the toilet paper rolls, were made into dangle Santas! Thanks again Susan for inviting us over to your place. It was a fun visit. Brought back memories😊

Love that you recycle so much to save Mother Earth. You have also been an inspiration to me in this area. I have stopped buying decorative papers to make boxes for my jewelry and now use tissue box parts (some of them are so decorative) and old books, magazines, and paper scraps to make my packaging, which you have inspired. And darn, I just threw a Pringles can into my recycling bin. Wonder if it has been picked up yet? So I wash them and throw the in a box. lol Let's just say they come in extremely handy. I even use the small ones in my drink holder. Need a sturdier template for repetitive tracing/cutting? I gotta a lid for that. lol Paint palettes, etc. I've had fun running them through my manual die cut machine and making art charms.

Andrea R., I sometimes save the clear clamshell containers that salad greens come it to cut and use as shape templates. I agree, I was surprised to find out that my local recycling now says they don’t accept glass anymore. What?!! Crazy!

    • @lettielou4148

@@erinwood4968 Bubble mailers are good for wrapping breakables. When I send a box of multiple items, by mail, to my daughter, I cut old bubble envelopes and wrap the breakables. I also use them to wrap Christmas ornaments being stored. At some point they will end up in a landfill, but at least they’re being reused instead of purchasing something else.

Love your fall intro. I noticed the Blyth Doll about 8, 9 years ago. Immediately, I was obsessed with it, maybe because I was not able to play with dolls much when I was a child (we had to keep any dolls and toys in good shape and condition to pass to the younger cousins), but price was a bit high for me then when both kids were getting ready for college. I did made some doll jewelries just in case. I don’t even want to know the price now. I really admire all the artists put in the incredible artwork into them. Thank you for spending so much of your time for creating the show. Now, on to the Pringles boxes. My first up cycle was stapled the containers under our tiny sink cabinet to hold curling iron and hairdryer. I try to grabbed all the lids before hubby throw them away. I use them for sorting beads, or sorting out pieces when paper diecuting, paint, glue pallets,...etc. I even use them as drink coasters or cover my drinks when sitting outdoor. Another favorite containers I like to recycle is tofu containers. Now, back to rewatching the opening intro.

I have always saved candy gift boxes. I utilize the divided sections for beads, jewels, findings, etc. The 'coversheet' helps keep items in-place. (I also tape between each divided section just as Susan demonstratedwith egg cartons.) The heart shaped boxes are usually so pretty. The others, Whitman's Sampler for example, can easily be embellished. I have saved various milk cartons and potato chip canisters for years. I create Ice Candles with Special Needs children, they 'make' a holiday gift for their family. I will now reserve a few chip canisters for my bead storage. I find that idea so very appealing! Your my kind of girl Susan.
I'm right with you on the re using of what so many people think is junk. The plastic bag thing, made me laugh. I have so many, all holding very useful things I use. Plus the collecting of ribbons and such, yep that's me. 😂 I'll have everyone's Christmas cracker waste in my lap. Removing all the ribbons, pretty papers any embellishments.
Don't get me wrong, I don't collect rubbish, I'm selectively picking things that can be recycled, re used and made into other hopefully more useful and pretty things. Resisting the dreaded 'pit of doom' rubbish pile. Nothing pleases me more than finding something I can re use. Instead of throwing away.
Great little storage ideas you used there Susan.
Your little trays do the job just right. Fabulous. 👍

Yes!! I’m a notorious craft hoarder in my village and I save/use EVERYTHING!! Especially glass and metal (even if it’s broken glass, I WANT IT-because I can turn it into “beach glass” with my little rock tumbler!) 🤣
Although my compulsion comes more from growing up poor (which really helps teach you how to think outside the box for supplies)…
And now living in a tiny, remote, farm village of only 150 people -so the nearest store is nearly a 2hr drive away. 😬
But recycling as much as I can and keeping it from ending up in landfills is definitely an added bonus!❤️👍
I really love the Pringle’s idea! I have a boatload of the plastic Stax containers, that I keep all of my nails/bolts/screws/etc. in…but I never considered using them for craft supplies too!😱💕

"It's not about the price. It's about the landfills!" I LOVE YOU FOR THAT!!! I love how you use so many recycled items. I use old book pages in a ton of my crafts. I get the books from the library section of old hardcover books they give away. I glue together the outer 1/2 inch of the pages on all 4 sides then cut out the middle & glue in thin cotton fabric lining from an old shirt. Using strips cut from cereal boxes covered with same cotton fabric from the I create compartments to store my finished polymer beads then give the book cover a lick of paint, make a label from a strip from a book page and sharpie lettering (Lentils, leaves, flowers by type, etc & cut another long strip of cotton from the old shirt to use to tie it closed with a cute bow on the front. I stack these one on top of the other ( laying down of course) for a pretty way to organize & store my oodles of finished polymer clay beads. When I was running low on the cotton fabric I began decoupaging the book pages onto the book cover. The beads have a soft fabric protected place to wait until I use them & I've managed to give new life to every bit of the book. I use your idea for earring cards for my finished ones using the book pages & cereal boxes. You're the inspiration behind all of my creative storage solutions using recycled goods. Thank you!

I have a bin full of kids as I use them for paint pallets or under cured clay when varnishing or resining) Love that you can decorate to your esthetics. I save every bag too. Great creative minds, eh 🤪 This was awesome. Thanks Susan and Abu!

Oh dear I had to laugh when I saw your lids as I just knew they were Pringles lids before you even showed us! They have been my go-to for beading for years! I have collected quite a lot and I have been amazed at how they have changed over the years (in South Africa at any rate). Happy recycling!

Creative/Artistic hoarding sounds more sophisticated than just plain hoarding. Timely for me as I have moved inside from the garden now that we've gotten frosted, winter is coming and the furnace is now turned on. Will be on the hunt for a Pringles eater. I am a box and tin hoarder. I was using the clear egg cartons in my greenhouse for seed starts but for beads they are perfect. I am setting up a small corner of my living room after gathering my many wee stashes from all over the house. It's not really that little when all in one place..lol. You always amaze and delight me, appreciate your sharing always. Be safe, warm and imaginative ... and share when the muses inspire you. : ))

the egg crates also work great for diamond dotz and sequins. A damp finger tip pulls out what you need easily to transfer to your work surface - good way to get seed beads out too! And as for work surfaces - I use the foam meat trays - yes I wash them! The edges keep everything in place while you work. The foam is also great for making boxes - I too hate it all this going to the landfill. My younger grands love to paint the trays for a framed piece of art or to cut out shapes and glue a collage together. they also make great pallets for mixing paint.
Susan I think you should challenge your viewers to share an upcycling idea in every comment on every video! Imaging how ides we could all gain and the increase in reuse.
    I love that you care!

This is a perfect set of ideas for me. I am guilty of buying lots of plastic sectioned boxes because I wanted to be able to see what I had. Your ideas are so good We buy a lot of stuff online and I always feel guilty about throwing the boxes out. They are such good, sturdy, boxes. Now I have a great idea of what to do with them! I don't have much paper to decorate them with , but I do have lots of ribbon. (A weakness of mine.) I am moving into a new studio, (instead of the kitchen nook) and really need more storage. Thanks so much for your great and inspiring ideas!

😊😊love the ideas I normally keep the plastic lids to place on tin food that goes I. The fridge over night 😹😹 but now I have a new use for them thank you 🤗🤗🤗
I wish we got the plastic egg cartons but they stopped using them back in the 90’s and only use the cardboard ones which I use for my doll house stone work 😹😹😹 but this does give me an idea I have the old plastic egg trays from the fridges from the past 50 years when getting a new fridge we have always kept the trays and draws and use them in other places but the egg trays have been collecting dust 😹😹😹
I have so many hobbies that I like to switch between the one and only hobby that ties all of my others into one was quilting 😳😹 I could never make a plane Jane quilt it just had to have embroidery work with appliqué and beading as well I have even painted and printed on my quilts too.
I have been building my own wooden storage system which I will need to finish now that I’m well again will be glad to get that finished made little draws to go into boxes that sit on top of each other so I can move them around with ease 😹😹I love all my seed beads in the small tubes that they come in and as the get used up I keep my tubes for the beads that come in small zip-lock-bags when making my wooden boxes I made them with the tubes in mind first then made other draws for things that had to stay in the zip-bags
Thank you for sharing your storage ideas it really helps but I’m glad my work area is not the only one that looks cluttered at the moment 😹😹😹 I love your passion on recycling anything and everything that we can one thing I have a great collection of is cardboard boxes I keep them all for my composting bins 😹😹😹 along with all my old personal papers worms love cardboard and paper no idea why but they do so I always put a layer in for them😹😹😹

I love your thoughts on recycling as I am obsessed with trying to save what is left of the planet. Our Price Chopper and Hen House have boxes right at the front doors to recycle plastic film , bags, etc..I even wash and dry the plastic that covers my mushrooms, hamburger, potato chip bags....Years ago I went from 3 trashcans a week to 1 can, all because of recycling...glass also. Love your ideas and all of the beautiful things you create. Stay safe and well. P.S. I am also that person hovering over everyone grabbing the tissue paper, bows and bags everyone wants to throw away..my family is so used to it now they just hand it over to me..ha !!!!!

Great video!!! I do the same. However, I use brown paper bags and used coffee filters. The boxes I cover with them, look like if they are made of leather. It’s a neat technique!!! My husband laughs because I am always after the used coffee filters, boxes and paper bags!!!! You are an amazing inspiration!!!! Beading is great and working with polymer is awesome. I got into it because of you!!! Thanks
